Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Releases Sept 30, 2025

I am so fucking happy right now. I hope that there will be a classic visual mod for it eventually, though.

The blurring was also kinda shit in Tactics Ogre Reborn
TO Reborn has no blur around corner of the stage like this . They only blur the background picture , the picture never exist in original or PSP . it is pretty clean in the stage compare to FFT remaster

Ah, I did not notice the blurring at the corners. That's a weird fucking choice. Why would they do that?

They just do what most modern devs do, have everything look blurry.
I'm not a fan of this AI upscaling era either. Sometimes i think it looks smeary as hell and other people say it looks awesome and crisp. 🤷‍♂️
I guess it's like 4K movie releases. Some people are fine with DNR use, i hate it.

Ahh. The classic version is included as well, it says on the website (apologies if that has been mentioned already).

Use of Bokeh/Blur is intriguing but I can't pass full judgment until release. This is being made internally by Square Devs and not outsourced so I have to take a page thinking they know what they are doing best here if they are passionate about the project. One would like to think and hope.

Well, Yoshi-P himself said that he is apparently a big Matsuno fan and wants to bring FFT and Vagrant Story to a new generation of players. Now that FFT is definitely coming, there's also a good chance that Vagrant Story is next.

No matter how you put it, this is the best version. You get the original PSX version with better translation, no load times etc. I can play the original on PS3, but I am still going to cave for this one.

If we receive a full-on Unreal Engine Remake of Vagrant Story that had the same effort and push Clair: Obscur had in all spiritual sense, I would be a very happy man.

The insane glow up of Oblivion was $40. This mobile remaster of an even older game is $50. High hopes for FF9 now lol

If you compare modern games to older games. Older games look nice and sharp, while modern look all grainy and soft. It's a shame that great image quality has become such a blurry mess

You know I'll say this much. Am I disappointed that they didn't go as hard as they should've for a remaster of this game? Definitely. That said I certaintly don't think it's "bad" either. The updated UI and being fully voice acted are great additions, and the big thing to consider here is the PC version. There's potential to have some great mods for this game. New jobs, rebalancing the combat, cleaner visuals, etc. I'm glad this game is going to be widely available to everyone now, and I hope it sells really well. We need a proper sequel someday.

Final Fantasy Tactics deserves much better than this. I can remember importing this one on PlayStation back in the day. The gameplay alone carried the game not only for me, but my friends who chipped in to play as well at the time. One of them could read the dialogue and roughly translated it on the fly when he was over. It took 7 months to come out in the U.S. and by then, the game was fresh again, and we all discussed the story in depth as well as the mistranslated dialogue that Square had goofed on. We still loved it.

Fast forward to this and I'm glad we are getting it, but this is a huge disappointment to me. Should have been redone in a new engine.

Can't mod in harder AI to this version like the PSP/PS1 one. Actually, there's quite a few mods. Better translation isn't universally seen as better. Game looks better on a small handheld screen IMO, but I did originally play on a ~25" CRT TV.

This is definitely the worst I've seen it look visually. Probably doesn't help I'm viewing it on a giant 4K UHD monitor, but there's definitely caveats in calling this the best version. Especially when the mobile art looks crisper and higher quality.

i really hate the way they make border for each of movement square like this, while not just make them blend in each other like origin version

Those "updated" graphics looks like some douche just enabled all the pixel smoothing overlays and turned them to max. Bleh.

But if it's true that it's fully voice acted and the original version have them aswell then I'm still getting it. Fuck I love this game. ❤️

As I rewatch it, to me it kind of looks like they are using a weird combination of the original sprites with some of the features of the higher res mobile version sprites......then ran them through a nasty interpolation filter :messenger_confounded:

Forgive me as I grabbed these from the cleanest YouTube videos I could find

Also, I'm not sure if it's just Youtube silliness or not, but there looks to be a weird cross-stich overlay over everything as well. In my screenshot above you can really see it on the grass and on the dark side of the rocks.
Look, I understand that the original translation left something to be desired, but how does anyone look at these text strings and think the latter two are improvements on the original?

It's like someone convinced them that their primary market is people who pretend to like Shakespeare…

Afaik, the War of the Lions translation is included and can be toggled on in the classic version. And the War of the Lions translation is GOATed, as far as I am concerned.

Game deserved better but still will buy day 1. I remember being infuriated with the difficulty at the end of the game when I played the original, wonder what it will feel like now

The three screenshots are three different lines in the same scene...

Knight: Hmm. It seems we are no longer alone. Gaffgarion! Kill them all!

Gaffgarion: A change of plans...but a contract is a contract, after all!

[First screenshot] Agrias: You would now betray us!?

Gaffgarion: Betray you? You have a viper's tongue, milady. I betray no one. I am in the Order's employ, and they are of it. My task was to see the princess safely abducted. And theirs, to see the one responsible silenced.

[Second screenshot] Agrias: You mean to say the kidnapping was a ruse?

Gaffgarion: The princess is an obstacle to the throne. So long as she lives, the threat remains that someone could assert her claim above Prince Orinus's. Two heirs are one too many!

Delita (still hovering over Ovelia): If her death is certain, then let it least not be in vain. Kill her if you must, but let it be held she was taken by Goltanna's men. Do that, and the stroke that fells a problem princess at once brings down a rival Lion. That was no doubt Larg's plan all along...Or was it his? Such a plot has more the feel of Dycedarg's thinking. Would you not agree, Ramza?

Gaffgarion: That one has the right of it, Ramza. Come, let us earn our pay!

[Third screenshot] Ramza: No...not again. I will not watch as sacrifices are made of the weak and
innocent. She will not be another Tietra!

The Dorter Slums was the first time I ever got "filtered" by a Final Fantasy game. That battle kicked me in the teeth, had to come back to it 3 years later when I was 16 to beat it.

I found the early game of FFT the hardest by far. But once you get some classes, skills and party members it becomes sort of a cakewalk.

I still have to wrap up TO Remaster. But I just hate the Hanging Gardens. This announcement might be a good inspiration to power through it, I had a fairly strong party.

And to think....THAT WAS IN CHAPTER 1! I got murked by that battle a few times. The Knights and Wizards enemy placements made it hard to progress but eventually I got it.

The box art illustration is incredible. I'm looking forward to playing this game again after two decades! I hope the enhanced version is not only challenging in the first half, but in the second half as well.

it usual for isometric games, so it had looks of diorama though
That's what I thought. It's a form of vignetting that creates a focal point like in a diorama. I hated vignetting in Mass Effect 2 and I hate it now.

That said, I think it is an artistic choice.

To be clear, I'm not even mad. I'm just happy this was finally announced. I'm ready to buy it today. When I played it originally after FFVII came out I thought the graphics sucked and fell off. Came back a few months later and after my initial disappointment I ended up loving it just as much as FFVII and VIII after it. This is my goat srpg and got me into the genre, so I'm 100% on board for anything they are willing to sell me related to FFT.

Life is short...Bury! Steady Sword!

What a fucking game this is my guys. We are in for a treat.

I expected more technically from the remaster, they're basically applying a filter and that's it.
Not full price material for me.

I remember cheesing it with dual excaliburs or something like that. It was hard as fuck

Pretty much of sake full Monday and tgoughts with this coming version. I am day one PC/PS5 supporting this title. It deserves all the love it can get because it's a pure masterpiece.
It's one of the best games they made during the Squaresoft era. I got it just because it had the FF name attached to it not knowing it was an SRPG and man was I shocked when i loaded that disc up. The story, characters, music, artwork are all so good. I stayed up late every night for weeks just to play this lol.

Low effort, I'll get it at some point. I would prefer that Squenix does a FFTA3 or FFT2, or TOx with the 2D-HD engine.

I was thinking about this, my wish for this game is to see the following:
  • Rebalancing of some of the games roughest spots, especially for newer players. Things like the City of Dorter slapping new players, or the buildup to the Wiegraf fight later in the game could be structured much better.
  • Job Class rebalancing. Bring up some of the more worthless classes and make them relevant. While I'm typically not a fan of nerfing things, maybe change or add some new content that can't be absolutely steamrolled by the swordmasters.
No matter what SE does there is no way you make people happy, this gonna be same case when decide to remake FF9.

People are just too attached to their nostalgic.
I don't think that's a fair generalization of what's driving peoples takes in this thread. Some are being unreasonable, but I don't think a majority is nor are they just nostalgia drunk.

The sprites and environments simply look like they have run through a few filters and called it a day. They are blurry and have weird looking interpolation side effects. I'd go as far to say that the Mobile versions sprites, despite some wonkiness, had more care/effort put into them than what we see here. At least that team took the time to leverage the higher resolution to hand draw in details that weren't there before.

It's not unreasonable to want a remaster of a sprite-based game to have at minimum clean/sharp looking sprites. When they ask $50 for said remaster, I really don't think it's out of line to expect redrawn sprites either.

I get that complaint and I have mixed feelings about it. I think the original localization is a bit too raw and full of errors and should be updated. I'm also of the belief that some liberties should be taken during any localization, because good localization should strive to not only translate the dialog but also capture the original creator's intent of said dialog. Sometimes when translating raw the author's intended feeling is lost.

...but that said, I always felt the Shakespeare WotL translation was silly and over the top. While some may like it that way and think it makes the game cooler, it absolutely changes the tone of the games story and characterization, and is that what Matsuno wanted? Is Agrias supposed to come off as sophisticated royalty with a properly trained tounge? Or a plain spoken tough-cookie knight who doesn't mince words? I'm actually playing through Unicorn Overlord at the moment, and it's very fluffed up translation is giving me the same thoughts.

While they are fun and OP, I have no idea what the designers were thinking with those skills. They're powerful, ranged, have AoE, instant, and don't cost any MP.

It doesn't make any sense to have skills that strong without any downsides or resource cost or cooldown or any kind of balancing mechanic.

Yeah and unless you're the type of player that's going to self-handicap yourself just for the fun of it, it really starts shifting how the game is played in Chapter 2. Don't forget most of them also cause status effects.

Oh, good. I wasn't sure if this was exclusive or a timed exclusive. I hope Square Enix gets the message that there is still a market for turn based SRPGs so that they put resources into the Front Mission remakes too. It makes me wonder how much Triangle Strategy sold.
