Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Releases Sept 30, 2025

How does Onion Knight work? Is that the one that gets stronger based on how many jobs you master? Might have to give it a shot this time.
I think to use Onion Knight effectively, master every other job, just make sure Ramza learns Ultima from Celia and Lettie, or he won't master squire!

Then find the ONION ARMOR and ONION SHIELD by completing the GUARDED TEMPLE RENDEZVOUS. The rest of the equipment is in Melees.

Onion Knight is potentially the best job, making Ramza at Lv.99, Br97, Fa100, the ultimate unit in battle.

It is a time commitment for Onion Knights, so it might not be worth it to you.

I noticed this has the same weird softening filter applied to the characters that Tactics Ogre Remaster has ....wtf is up with that? Raw pixels would look so much better. Allow us to use a mild CRT filter on top if we want ....

Crazy hp
Can't mod in harder AI to this version like the PSP/PS1 one. Actually, there's quite a few mods. Better translation isn't universally seen as better. Game looks better on a small handheld screen IMO, but I did originally play on a ~25" CRT TV.

This is definitely the worst I've seen it look visually. Probably doesn't help I'm viewing it on a giant 4K UHD monitor, but there's definitely caveats in calling this the best version. Especially when the mobile art looks crisper and higher quality.
Crazy how any remaster could ever look worse than the original yet it still happens regularly...lollipop chainsaw thinking of you

It's the same damn PS1 game... I played it on PSP and it looks the same... The only thing new is that those ugly characters move their snouts and that's it. I wouldn't buy it again...

I'm hyped because I want to replay this and glad it is becoming relevant again.

I'm pissed over the price. It's just crazy. I won't even be buying day 1 and I'm a huge huge fan. They should have not put in minimal effort if they want to charge this price. There has never been a game more of a ripoff than this one. The Nintendo games are new full AAA games and this is a super lazy port of an ancient game that already had ancient graphics for the time it came out, with VA added. How could they charge so much for this, lol.

It's really not even about money. It's about feeling disrespected.

That said, I'd buy same effort Vagrant Story or FFIX for 80 dollars and not bat an eye. This game is just as good as those games if not better but I have played this one a dozen times and only played those other games once.

If they shadow dropped this game for 20 bucks every gamer on earth would own it now. If they shadowdropped it for 30 most would still buy it. Instead wait several months to think about it and pay the same price a COE33. SE needs some help yall.
You're crazy. This is a little more effort compared to Tactics Ogre. Also comparing to Nintendo is crazy, that company disrespects their customers so much that they love it. Nintendo literally increased the price of all their shit for stuff that was already shipped into the country months ago. Just buy this so that Square-Enix can be convinced to go all-in on Ivalice and maybe we can get that universe rebooted. Cause otherwise the entire FFXII/Tactics/Ivalice world is dead and need to be revived. But honestly you should feel bad for Square Enix, they got gaslit into working on DEI projects and are in financial ruins now.

Yeah, gripes aside, I'll pick it up to support the initiative.

Yes. It sucks donkey dick until you master every job in the game, then you one shot everything.

Utterly ludicrous game design, but something to do for the 1% of grinders that actually think that's fun.

My hope is that they redo those two classes to pay homage to their early FF incarnations and function as actual viable classes that 99% would be able to utilize in a standard playthrough.

Hell, rebalance all the classes. There's a lot of OP shit and useless shit in the game.

I never wishlisted anything so fast and hard.

I don't want to think about it. I went ahead and got it. I'll be double dipping on Switch.

Its about accessibility. And going by Tactics Ogre, that game might've added the controversial cards, but it also added the Warren Report, CODA and other QoL features. Its just a blast to play and you can jump into any branching point after beating the game.

For me its hard to put down TO once I fire it up. And I found FFT to be even better.

I have no qualms with rebuying this - it's been such a long time and playing with VA will bring a bit more life into it. Especially if the VA does it justice.

To avoid any misunderstandings, I'll add to it. This is public information.

For the record, please note that this only concerns the dialogue of the scenario, not the gameplay.

I've been told that the dialogue in the "classic version" was adapted from the PSP version. (I have not actually confirmed this with my own eyes, though.)

For the "Enhanced version," I reworked almost all of the dialogue to make it fully voice-activated. The localization team is re-translating it to accommodate these changes.

Thank you.

Thank you for your input.
I understand your point of view. I respect it.

This will be my last post on this subject.

I am a creator. I want as many people as possible to experience my work. In that sense, I would like to support more languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Korean. That is not a lie.

However, there must be a reason why we don't.
Square Enix must be making hard business decisions.
Unfortunately, I don't know the details and can't interfere with that decision.

If you really want to see other languages supported, please tell Square Enix user support, not me.

Even if I were to compile all of your opinions and share them, they would only be my opinions. It would be much clearer and more sincere if each of you communicated it directly to them. You would be telling them directly what dozens, hundreds, and thousands of people desperately want.

It's easy to post your opinion to me.
However, even if that is the nature of social networking, we must not be content with the easy way out.

The will to resist is in your hands.

Thank you so much for reading to the end.

I'm all about voting with my wallet but this seems like a pretty lazy remaster. Smoothing out the graphics and optimizing the dialogue for a 30 year old game isn't enough for me.

Something like the dead space remake i bought day 1. Like heimdell mentions it's just a tweak on the psp game. I'm not trying to shit on people who are excited cause I'm a fan as well. I'm just disappointed with the actual product.

Fans will be happy that it's more accessible

I think it's completely valid to feel this way, but I just don't think this is low effort at all. Matsuno has revised and adapted the script to support fully voiced dialogue, that's a significant creative investment. This kind of authorial involvement in a remaster is actually pretty rare.

The QoL and UI improvements shouldn't be overlooked either.

FFT might be beloved to fans, but it doesn't have mass market appeal, it caters to a niche audience. Square Enix didn't have to bring Matsuno back, voice the entire game, enhance the UI and visuals, and offer both classic and modern options. To me, that signals real intent and effort.

Criticism of the visual upgrade is fair, but dismissing the project as lazy kind of overlooks the real work and legacy preservation being done here. It will be the definitive way to play FFT when it releases, no doubt.

Fair. Lazy was probably not the best word. Uninspired?

Hell no, huge ripoff. I'd rather spend that money getting the action figures for less.

DAY FUCKING 1 on the game. No more needing to install ppsspp or busting out my vita.
I didn't realize it didn't come with the game. I picked up the action figure of Ramza. The pop up church feels like a low effort move on SE's part. It looks cheap.

The "Enhanced" version just looks like they ran the original through a cheap AI filter. It's embarrassing. They did a similar thing with Tactic Ogre Reborn and they thought they could get away with it here too. People were expecting an actual remake this time since this has been in development for so long, and FFT deserved an actual remake. This is nothing more than another remaster with some UI enhancements and should never cost $50/60€.

If the PC version can be modded, I'm in. Already played the ps1/psp/android version to the death

It's got the State of the Realm feature from FFXVI which people loved to death. That's pretty huge.

Pause the game at any point and get all the info and relation status between every character on the screen, updated in real time.

And it's fully voiced now, so that's going to be fun.

I agree the filtered look is not the best, but on a small 7" screen I imagine it looks great. On my 4K monitor, I am expecting to just mod it out of the game and play with proper pixel art/sprites.

I got it for $40 though, and I imagine it will go on sale (release Sept) in Nov for $20-$25. Hopefully it does well enough to get more sRPGs like FFT.

Unless I know the dialogue is not butchered, it's not worth it.

The original translation was butchered, according to many (of the two it's my favorite). WotL is too flowery according to many.

The new VA uses an new script neither the original or WotL, so should be interesting! I'm sure it won't be as good either, but I'm looking forward to seeing the story voiced out for at least one playthrough.

It looks amazing to me, I've only played the original ps1 game so it's gonna be my first time playing with the updated script and cinematics, although I do prefer the original character names, hope there's an option to change them back to og ps1

Just here lurking and seeing your avatar. You're based, man.

Fair. Lazy was probably not the best word. Uninspired?

For me the visuals are one of the strongest elements of the game and I don't see a need for "upgrades" that totally chage it like going hd2d or something would.

I'd say the best way to describe this is smart. Adding voice acting that I can disable is only a good thing.

It's not the best remaster ever but it's the kind of game you can fuck about with for years, so the price is not a big deal for me.

Pretty happy they're including an easy mode. I'm not a fan of strategy games, so like with BG3, I'll start off on that, and if I like the game well enough after my first run, I'll play it again on a higher difficulty.

I've always wanted to play this game, but was slightly worried because I heard you could fuck your playthrough up enough that it becomes difficult/impossible to continue.

Nothing that a little bit of grinding couldn't solve. The problem was that if you are someone who doesn't use multiple save files, you might end up in a situation where you are under-leveled for a particular story mission without any way to exit back to the overworld to grind levels.

Looks like it won't include the WotL content (Balthier and Luso party members, Onion Knight and Dark Knight jobs)

Did you consider adding elements from FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS like Balthier, Luso and the Onion Knight and Dark Knight jobs?

We did of course consider the addition of new jobs, abilities, and characters - including the jobs featured in War of the Lions. However, the original version of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS is a very complete game both from a game design and story perspective. If we were to make major changes, it would only be a loss for not only fans of the original game, but also those new to the title.

With this in mind, our first step in reviving FINAL FANTASY TACTICS in the present was to adhere to the original and put a spotlight on the original game's characters and jobs, as well as the original gameplay experience.

The development team were passionate when it came to bringing an experience as close to the original as we could, and as a result we have recreated and used the original VFX and SFX - something I hope fans of the original in particular will enjoy as they play.

"New jobs, abilities and characters* [...] would only be a loss."

I hadn't considered that angle.
