Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

Nailed it. I was just sitting here thinking back on the money I have wasted on titles that I'll blow through once and never touch again. I am going to stick with Gamefly and try to only buy the games I know will have long legs and be worth it. But this here is just on another level. Take notes, devs and publishers.

I usually only get a game that either i know has 50+ hours of content or i will replay like most Nintendo games i replay i love platformers and such but shooters unless it has a good MP i dont buy it and Good MP for me is rare as i only like shooters with arena like qualities fast movement and longer kill times

It isn't worth $60 to you?

It is, but I can't afford to pick the game up right away at launch and my friends will be playing it on launch day.

edit: i seem to have misunderstood, GTA Online comes out after the main game, was confused for a minute. That's helpful!

what a massive undertaking to put all that in. Amazing. I like the delayed release after the single player personally, seems like it would be sensory overload for it to all hit at once.

I've never really liked a GTA game (I don't like playing as a bad guy), but this game has me excited on all fronts. I reserved my copy for the PS3 a couple of days ago.

Their trailers thus far have only shown PS3 button prompts, so I'm going to assume that's the version to get much like what happened with Red Dead Redemption's footage showing 360 prompts (which performed favorably on the 360).

Some interesting stuff from the CVG interview.

- If say you and a friend want to do a heist that requires 8 people, but you can't get 6 other players to join you, you can call in some backup and essentially they will become bots so you can do the heist.
- If you want to be an ass, enter a race, then during it, call in an Air Strike on the lead car.
- You can set up playlists. So you can create an epic land - sea - air race.

Looks alright. Silly that it is essentially delayed out of the box though.

That's fine. If they need more time to work on the multiplayer part while we play the singleplayer, then I don't see the issue. They're not delaying the game, just an aspect for whatever reason they have. I personally like it because it gives me two weeks to play through the story in the singleplayer without having to worry about meeting friends to play online.

If you look at some of the ads, they only have the PS3 logo. Sony is probably has some sort of deal worked out to showcase the PS3 version and put emphasis on it. It will be interesting to see side by side comparisons though.

I'll be there day 1 for this
(Online in Oct not 9-17)
and that is astonishing in itself considering how drab my experience with GTAIV was.

Such a shame this is not coming to Xbox One/ PS4 (as far as we know). Once the new consoles launched I planned on packing away my PS3 and 360 for good but dam this is going to make that tough.

I hope the negative feedback doesn't get too carried away. Its GTA online, things are going to happen and plans will be sabotage from time to time.

What I don't understand is how the property/money system will work. Will all of that reset once you join a new game? How can two people own the same apartment?

I'm assuming when you and your crew visit the a block of apartments, you are given a choice of which rooms to visit, depending on which rooms you have permissions to visit. The apartment owner probably has to set permissions (nobody/crew/everyone). So multiple rooms could occupy the same building.

I believe the owner has to "buzz you up". So infinite rooms that are invite-only I would suppose.

I kept misreading the thread title as "GTA: Online trailer coming October 1st" and kept skipping over it. Now that I watched the trailer all I got to say is WOW. This game looks like everything a proper HD GTA should be and more.

I'm ok with it. This means it's a separate game that rides off the same game world. Different development team, seems to have its own campaign, it's really 2 games in one purchase. One game right away and another game 2 weeks later.

OP, you may want to make it a *little more clear* that when clicking on the second youtube link that there's going to be nudity.

Nothing like loading up boobs at work.... great.

I watched the vid on the 2nd link twice before I figured out what you were talking about :lol

So when I load up GTA Online, and I start cruising the town, will everyone I see be online?

There is AI. Apparently as much as the single player campaign. Pedestrians, cops, etc.

Grove Street?

i can see trevor and lamar being people we do missions for online

franklin, idk maybe an apperance

michael wouldn't make sense to be online since he is in witness protection

I don't tend to stick with online games but I'm not against trying them. Looks pretty neat. Wonder what new environments it might get later and if there will be corresponding single-player DLC to go with it. Also curious how all these activities are going to be organized.

I think the silent generic main character you play online is going to make for less memorable scenarios. The arguing between the main character and ancillary characters in the GTA games are some of the most amusing sections of the story. I hope the online stuff doesn't feel dead. The general online gameplay with 16 players who, unlike when you play single-player, have no sense of self-preservation might make for some chaotic gameplay(not in a good way). I didn't play much of GTAIV online though. Maybe a non-issue.

Not too exciting for someone who isn't into multiplayer so much. Single-player games and multiplayer games have very different ideals.

I'll have to see if there was any further updates to this reveal tomorrow. I only watched the trailer and I have to sleep now!

EDIT: Damn why am I still reading things?! I need to sleep!

This is really confusing right now. 16 players but with so many activities I wonder how you'll arrange to do things and at what level can others interfere?

Persistent? How? If it isn't technically an MMO than this is hard to make sense of. I mean where is your apartment? Is it actually part of the map?

Oh sweet Jesus, there are BIKE TOURS in this game??

Sweet god, I want a biking game so bad where I'm just racing on beautiful trails and roads. Please be great.

I want to play this so bad, but I know a next gen version will come out next year with all the bugs worked out. Must keep strong.

There is no Guarantee its possible with a slim chance but i would not bank on it i dont think SA got a 360 port so i say this and the pc is the only releases

This looks fantastic. The custom missions will really extend the life of the game on top of what seems to be a packed game already. Very excited. I'm wondering if we'll get a comparison of either game for both PS3 and 360 as I'm unsure as to which version to buy.

Well this time their budget is so ridiculous and it should be so easy to port the PC version to next gen. They will probably want the extra sales and possible double dips.

What PS Home should've been

Wow. I can't believe they're going so deep with the multiplayer. And it comes with the game that's already bound to be worth way more than $60. The reveals for both and the articles/interviews have my hype through the roof.
R* budget for this game is massive...and the hype for it will be equally impressive...trust me, if this doesn't sell a gazillion units and they don't make back there money and then some, they won't be making anymore lol...

I'm hyped too, but people need to realize how many people are working on this massive game, and how much is invested into this IP. They are not over-delivering, just improving there bread and butter and releasing when the installed user bases of 360 and PS3 are peaking...

Everyone wins...

GTA Online is 16 player games in a persistent macro-world, similar to say Test Drive Unlimited or Burnout Paradise. THere are hundreds of thousands of people online but you are in a contained world of 16 players. I'm sure you can also choose only to play with friends as well.

The worlds are persistent, so I imagine that property ownership will be like an apartment complex with infinite rooms inside, and you choose the room to visit based on who is in the game... But it's not like ou actually own a physical property in the world that somebody else can't also own simultaneous to you. Maybe -- but I doubt it.

any details on the radio?

None beyond the tracks we've heard in the trailers and some rumors. Theyr'e tight lipped on radio, the CVG guys specifically said they can't mention any specifics about the radio. The only thing we do know is when you pick up a friend, your friend can change the radio station to whatever they want and you can fight over it.

lol...finally someone who's just as confused as me. I love the diversity in the gameplay, and of course how good it looks. But multiplayer still doesn't make much sense to me, and the little that does, doesn't seem particularly compelling to do in a online setting. Perhaps some of it will be really fun co-oping together with some of my real friends I already know. BUt just logging on and challenging others or building rep and stuff...hmmm I'm not sure that's doing it for me. I mean, the main game should give you over 100+hrs of gameplay, online seems to be for the enthusiast who really really love the franchise.

Thank you!!! Maybe that was in the interviews but online makes a lot more sense now...And with only people in my friends list apart of my experience that is much more appealing to me who prefers SP and couch-gaming.

tks again for the clarification...

Three great characters to play as during the packed campaign and our own fully customizable 4th character to play as in the online world, with it's own story, all of the amazing activities of the single player experience, various multiplayer modes and even a content creator. Like I said before, what they have done here is just on another level. It's mind boggling what all they have put into this game.

welp, we finally got our next gen Wave Race no?

Can't believe this might be releasing 2 months before the PS4. Two months of only GTAVonline and Madden...ONLY. Then I might get back into it if I get bored of the launch PS4 games.
