Asian men and interracial dating

Kind of inspired by the Drummond/McCurdy thread, are there any Asian male-gaffers that are currently dating/married to another race? I'm a Filipino currently dating a mixed race person (trini/puerto rican/italian). My parents seem to not really care since they're pretty laid back when it comes to those issues (living in Miami, which the Asian community is in a super minority$. I mostly get shit from my Filipino friends because of how insular Asian cliques can be. I try not to force my gf to attend any of my Filipino friend's get togethers due to the fact that the few times I've invited her my friends all seem to make her feel like an outsider. My gf's family seems to accept me though and her friends (they're mostly Hispanic and Black) enjoy my company.

I know quite a few. I don't see why it's a big deal at all.

Though I'd be weary of a firstborn male. :S

I really get no shit from any of my friends/family. But I live in Southern Calfifornia, where Asians (and us Filipinos in particular) are a little more integrated into the mainstream. I've brought boyfriends to family gathewrings and my sister is dating a white guy too, and he has always been there during major occasions. At the a yearly get-together of families from my dad's hometown, there are quite a bit of non-Filipinos spouses/SO too and even I bring whoever I was dating at the time. I think we're the only gay couple there though.

From my experience, Asian guys dating girls of other races is way more common outside of the Asian enclave towns.

my friend is filipino and always complains that white women, his preference, don't like asian guys.

is there any truth to this?

Not to me but it seems "strange" I guess, especially where I live.

Filipinos in Miami in general seem to be very close knit and don't really date outside their race although there are exceptions (me being one of them)

Oh yeah, she wasn't even allowed to have a boyfriend until 18 and her closest friends are Asian. The only reason her mom tolerates me is because of my education and job, though I probably wouldn't have been questioned on the matter were I Asian because assumptions of some kind would play in on the parents' part. I know exactly what you mean.

I might be wrong, but I didn't think Flipinios were uptight about inter-racial dating here in Vancouver? I guess I wouldn't know. I have a few Flipino friends.. maybe someday I'll ask.

My wife is Fiiipino, too but I'm white. She never got anyone giving her shit about dating me, but a lot of folks in the Filipino community used to try and set her up with a Filipino guy. Like she'd tell them she was dating me and show my picture of whatever and they'd go about trying to set her up on a blind date that same night.
I know it's not quite the thread topic, but her and I can relate to an extent.

one of my uncles had five daughters. two of them are dating white guys, one of them married a white guy, divorced him, and married a different white guy. another one married a white guy. the last one married a pacific islander guy.

yes, i know the topic about asian guys and white women. so for the men in my level of the family tree, i think every single one of them who is married has married an asian woman.

kind of funny to see the women marrying mostly non-asian men while the men married all asian women.

women do not like Asian men comparatively.

Yeah i've noticed that too. It's kind of ridiculous.

Of course that also isn't absolute or anything.

I don't think its about being Asian per se. I think it has to do more with height preference. Asians in general are not that tall. There is also this notion that Asian men give off this inclusive vibe that makes women think that the men would never date outside his race.

You could also say that negative Asian men stereotypes (ex: Asian men are asexual, not attractive, etc) are a factor but I think that notion is slowly dying down in the media (just look at Fast Five and Fast Six, etc)

man, ill never understand that insular bullshit.
Me neither. My gf is especially offended by it. One incident where I left her to socialize with my filipino buddies' gfs (which were both filipino). They exchanged pleasantries but soon after that the two girls spent about 80% of the time speaking to each other in Tagalog. Rude as fuck.

Since we're on the subject, I've noticed that Asians and the White folk are the two races that appear to predominantly date among their own race. Wonder why that is.

Ehhhh? I'm pretty sure whites are the most likely to date outside their race. I've even seen articles saying that the "white race" is doomed as a distinct identity because of so much outmarriage (not that it matters).

And so many Asian women date outside their race. I think Asian-White is the most predominant interracial pairing.

I think you have it absolutely backwards if I am reading you correctly.

My guess is we (Asians) are seen as the "model minority" and by dating us to some people it would seem to be the least offensive interracial match as lets say white/black.

That may in fact be the case, I was just speaking anecdotally.

I'm Asian and I'm kind of seeing this an Ethiopian girl right now. I'm 23 and she's turning 28. A part of me don't want my family (parents and aunts/uncles) to find out because I know they won't approve of it just because of her race. It's frustrating, really.

Actually I dunno... you might be right... now that I google around, it seems like whites are least likely to date outside their race in America.

http://www.prb.org/Publications/Articles/2010/usintermarriage.aspx

That kind of shocks me because I see white people as pretty liberal about that kind of thing, and I am surrounded by whites in interracial relationships (and I'm in one, and consider it unremarkable)... but I am in urban Canada so I might not see the full picture. And also, when whites are the majority, it's just more likely that they will date another white.

All the Filipinos where I lived weren't held back/tight knit with dating outside their race.

I'm Korean and I've dated hispanic/white girls. My first girlfriend was hispanic.

I don't know dude. I'm pretty heavily tattooed, from face and neck down to my chest and arms. Ain't nothing "model minority" about that.

Yeah, you grow out of that. In college, I was in the Filipino club and was all about dating my race etc. Years later, I was engaged to a blonde blue-eyed woman. I have 3 white brother-in-laws and a white sister-in-law. You can see the pattern here. My parents didn't give an F. They are first generation immigrants to the US and thank goodness they raised me and my siblings here as opposed to the Philippines. You end up with who you end up with.

I'm Korean dating a white girl, going on 4 years. Only ever dated white girls. Pretty whitewashed I suppose but that has more to do with being born in Canada and having rad parents that didn't really care what I did or who I hung out with as long as my grades were good. Don't consider myself a twinkie but other Asian kids and I were rarely in the same social circle until college.

I don't think it's model minority thing. There is a huge range of factors and things that make people click or not. The woman I'd call my soulmate is Indian. I never saw that coming, and didn't look for it, but we just connected and it hasn't shaken for 7 years. I don't feel like "typical white guy" and she doesn't feel like "typical indian girl" but we just are who we are and we go together well. That's probably how it is for a lot of people and a lot of biases or conditioning you could name are minor things.

That's the funny thing .... so much is thought about race and culture.... but that has very little to do with the actual reasons why people click or not.

Latino male dating a Chinese female here. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I do find it a little annoying that I'm just sitting around sometimes while she talks with friends in Mandarin. That probably means that I should just learn the language, though.

No, but I have a male asian friend who's been steady with a white girl for a few years now. This is in college in the bay area, california.

It's not that rare, at least here anyways. Just look it up on youtube lol.

Of course, colleges in urban californian cities.. everyone's dating everyone.

women do not like Asian men comparatively.

I blame this on Hollywood, mainly, and in some part to 1st generations.

When has Hollywood ever had a leading male star that's not trying to be funny, a stereotype, or a martial artist?

I think the walking dead was the first time an asian dude made out with a white girl, and even that asian dude was somewhat of a pansy.

but reverse that, and you see so many movies with white dudes and asian females in their submissive roles.

Progress that across 10-20 years, and you have a set in people's mind, and there you go.

But of course, things will change. It used to be the same way for black people, but in time, everyone will adapt and change. wait,nm, u still hardly ever see movies of black males kissing white females.
