Fighting games are becoming niche. They definitely dropped the ball on drive club, though.
Shooters are the new flagship title. Thank Halo for that.
yeah, thank halo for making an Fps a flagship title of a japanese console.

No one gives a fuck about non-Capcom fighters, so no.
Guess you weren't around the the Xbox launch. Other than Halo DOA3 was the showcase.Since when did the big three start using FIGHTERS of all genres to showcase their console?

That's how the OP comes off though, with the whole, "Sony dropped the ball" schtick, even though fighters haven't been a measuring stick for console potential in ages.Heh, how come this gets stated in so many PS4 threads that aren't 100% positive?
I don't think the OP is trying to make something up for a "PS4 doomed" thread -- he/she would just like a new fighter for the PS4's launch.
Maybe you didn't understand what you read, or maybe you just have odd views, but Halo was the first flagship shooter headlining a major console release. What happened in the following generations? PS3 - Resistance, 360 - PDZ, PS4 - Killzone and X-Box One - Titanfall (though not launch, it is clearly the flagship launch window title).
So what are you going on about again? The only contrary examples you have are Nintendo systems. Fighting games don't hold much sway, fight me about if you want, but it's the truth.
Why does Sony keep dropping the ball? What sport are we playing?
Has Sony dropped the ball with no new Marble Madness at launch?
Thanks for the explanation. Looks like I'll just have to hope that Killer Instinct or Guilty Gear Xrd manage to amass the tournament audience's interest, because those games look like a lot of fun.The fact that Capcom fighters are the only ones anyone cares about on a higher level. MK9 was there for a while but the constant updating and the borked DLC and the bad online...People got sick of having to relearn the game every week because each new piece of content NR put out was broken. That and that game was unbalanced for a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time before things got evened out.
SF4 is still seen as the pinnacle of fighting games this generation. Whether your like it or hate it, you can't argue that it's a very well built game that rewards smart play rather than execution. And even though Marvel is fucking stupid (because it's fucking stupid) it's exciting and fun to play. At an anime con I went to last week, people just stopped as they walked by the game room and ended up circling around the marvel station watching people play because what was going on on the screen was crazy. No other game has gotten to that point. High level injustice is fucking boring. High level Smash is confusing (though still pretty cool). High level KOF13 is EXTREMELY technical and so hard to do for the average player that most people simply don't care about it, if they understand it at all.
Capcom is very good when it comes to striking the balance between the layman and the expert and is good about creating a playing field that is interesting, most so than other game developers. It's why people get so mad at them when they do dumb shit like not supporting their games through DLC in order to sell another physical copy, or when they refuse to patch their games or when they don't market their shit so people don't even realize it's out.
I never thought I'd be excited about Ultra SF4, but...I am I guess. It's nuts.
Ya ha.
People say that MvsC3 is hard, but I think that's because they never got the explanation that every character has basically the same beginner combo. MvsC3 is the most accessible fighting game in YEARS (edit: except maybe Persona 4A)
No one gives a fuck about non-Capcom fighters, so no.
She's going to show you her piece
The last and only time a fighter mattered (only a little bit) at a launch was Battle Arena Toshinden for the PSX.
Saying Sony dropped the ball because they don't have a fighting game at launch is like saying that Sony dropped the ball because they don't have a 2D platformer at launch.
Has Sony dropped the Mark Cerny with no new Marble Madness at launch?
Since every generation before this one?
SoulCalibur (DC)
TTT1 (PS2)
DoA3 (Xbox)
DoA4 (360)
Tekken has always been heavily featured in Sony's CG "target renderings."

Anyone else feel Sony really dropped the ball ...
I don't think so. Fighting games takes forever to make. The more characters and mechanics the more balancing it needs. I'd rather have companies take their time and get it right instead of releasing them half-ass. In Sony's case, remember the days when they couldn't give two craps about fighters or even 2d games in general? I still think that applies somewhat. As idiotic as Microsoft is these days I think they have more of a grasp and appreciation of the genre.
Oh good, the sequel to "Sony Dropped the Ball with their First Party Launch Window."
It's funny how people have forced themselves to think they want a KI

DoA4 was not a launch title for 360. I remember playing RR6 and Perfect Dark Zero to kill time waiting for the damn game to come out.
When people say they want the new Killer Instinct, what they're actually saying is "I want to play the next game from the studio that has released one mediocre Silent Hill game and a whole bunch of shit."
Name one good game they've made that isn't Silent Hill: Homecoming.
Why can't he count that? You can't leave Silent Hill out just because it's a good game that they made. That totally renders your point...pointless.
And besides, there's a lot more riding on KI being successful. Their other games have all just been movie tie-ins. I'm not saying it won't be bad, but it definitely still has a chance.
