TWEWY HD got an update that says it enables iphone 5 and 5s support. Yet I can't download it from my phone still.

what

Seems they just zoomed in the screen and cut off the top and bottom a bit during gameplay. Makes everything seem a bit more blurry to me. I'd rather they just added borders for everything like they did for the cutscenes and menus.

Hmmm notice the iPhone version was updated for widescreen. Redownloading.

Hope this mean ff tactics get widescreen someday.

About FF tactics, is the iOS port any good? I've never played it before but I also have a Vita, so if the PSP version is better I'll probably get that one someday.

Warhammer Quest was a huge disappointment for me, the game seems like it was very well-made...until you play it for an hour. Little things are bothersome like having to return to a town and have it load the menu before you can go out adventuring again. Some dungeons don't display the recommended level to enter so you just die midway through. Leveling up takes gold and i'm always underleveled, i don't particularly want to grind in places that look the same. There's no sense of progression, new characters can only be purchased with money. All of these games with IAP for extras feel like the bare minimum in design and gameplay. Warhammer quest has good presentation, sound, and writing, and an hour in and i don't really want to play anymore.

traded in my mom's ipad 2 for $200. gave my mom my mini.

now to decide if should get an air or mini or save it for something else.

i seem to do most of my ios gaming on my phone now (easier to do in boring meetings :P).

But I miss lazying it in bed with the ipad. not the same with a small phone.

looking nice.

think they stretched the UI a bit.

It seems to me they zoomed in and cut of the top and bottom borders. I'm currently playing the game and I noticed there's a lot less on the screen now while the characters are bigger. The cellphone and mail icon are bigger too.

Edit: This is how it looked like before the patch (with black borders on the sides).

hmmm interesting. Would probably have been too much work resizing some maps for wider screen.

I guess we should be happy that they didn't just stretch the image out to fill out the widescreen like for FF4.

From the FTL update

New Sector and Events: Our writer Tom Jubert has returned along with special guest writer Chris Avellone (of Planescape fame), who managed to find some time for us between his work on Project Eternity and Wasteland 2. They’ve been helping us add a new sector and scatter new events throughout the rest of the game.

CHRIS AVELLONE? OMFG

You should've posted the longer version :P

that feel when you are at the end of the mission of kingdom rush. nothing happens. you realize a spawn is stuck 1 pixel from off screen, and you cant hit it.

fuuuuuk. 20 mins wasted.

If anyone wants to try a challenging platformer, my game 'Gleamer' is free for the day.

http://appstore.com/gleamer
Recommended. I beta tested this. It's a puzzle platformer but not in the sense of switches and stuff like that. You're always moving and building speed so you have to figure out the best route to collect all the sparks, while learning the best way to build speed at the right times. If Bitless was a puzzle platformer, it would probably look something like Gleamer. It's really challenging, but I think it's pretty fun. And even if you miss up, it's strangely satisfying to watch your square flicker across the screen at an insane speed

I have played through both kingdom rush games extensively and have never once had that problem...

God updating 2.4 gb apps seems impossible to me on my 16gb iPhone -_-
They really need to change the way the apps are updated.

Apple introduced delta updates with ios6 so small updates (only files that have been changed will be updated) can be made.

I believe that only applies to download size though. You still need 2x app space unless you use iTunes.

Guys, serious question here. Really considering purchasing an iPad finally. I've dabbled in IOS gaming before, just on my iPhone and iPod touches. Though those have been passing interests, It's probably been a good year or so since i've played anything on my phone. Despite this, after hearing FTL was being ported over, I thought it's time I really give some serious thought on getting one (I've always wanted one for Jubeat damn it).

Do you think the iPad's library is diverse enough to justify getting one for gaming? Of course I'd use it for movies and stuff too, but gaming is my priority. I've been out of the app store scene for a good year now.

God I just saw Apple is handing out financing plans and I need this, so bad for some reason.

Help! Beat the game ages ago, iOS port is phenomenal but I can't help my gf here, can't remember what she's supposed to do (that lever inverts the clockwork but then how you climb the highest one if you do so??)

After six days of using, I'd say no. Some of the games seem to be pretty good, but practically all outside a couple of genres have control issues. And for gaming you probably need 64 gigs of memory, if you don't want to remove and redownload stuff all the time... I don't think it's worth it.

Hrm... so while the iCloud restore prepopulated the Documents and Data for many of my music games, the licenses all didn't work and I had to redownload the content from the store anyway. I noticed the storage footprint for my games then became larger - am I just holding on to a ton of orphaned data now? (EDIT: Comparing the usage stats between my new iPad and old one, looks like it's about the same, so it doesn't look like data is being duplicated, this time at least. This is my third iPad though and iCloud was new last time I migrated...)

I get a ton of mileage out of jubeat. Just waiting on my screen protector to arrive before I pull my iPad Air out of its protective plastic sleeve to start playing again.

Beyond that, there's a pretty wide selection of music gaming available on the platform - more so than Android with its audio latency issues. But when I first got an iPad, what surprised me the most was how much it changed my daily routine in other ways - to the point that it literally goes to bed with me and it's the first thing I see when I wake up. It's just really convenient to have and be able to do many things I'd otherwise need a PC for, except I don't have to actually be sitting in front of my computer to be doing them.

So TWEWY didn't get a universal update, just copied and pasted the iPhone update into the HD version update. Classy. Fuckers.

And Football Heroes is phenomenal, but A. grinding takes really long for new packs and B. can see the formula getting kind of stale after awhile, especially since it takes a good while to save up for new players and thus new abilities. Enjoying the gameplay thus far though. With a couple tweaks, this game could be brilliant.

QuizUp is really great, but I wish there was a dedicated "recommended" tab, as I've found some of my best topics on there. I don't wanna have to search through all topics to start a new game. Also it needs to let me start a new topic with a friend from the friend screen, not just favorites topics. Also another game that will be great after a few patches.

I continue to be addicted to Game of War. Find me in Cor.

Kind of losing interest in Marvel Puzzle Quest. Don't know why, just seems like a burden to play anymore.

Aaaand haven't played Tiny Death Star since its release. They should make a Star Wars building/strategy game. That would totally suck me in.

And that's the Flunkie iOS games update. Blame my recent lack of activity in the thread on BF4.

It's going to depend on what you are looking for in gaming. It's certainly the strongest library out of the mobile 'ecosystems', and I've found it's become more and more diverse. Any given month gives you a pretty wide range of stuff. Great ports of other big games (XCOM, Limbo and now FTL come to mind), plenty of great choices in more quick play casual games (For ex. QuizUp, Rayman Fiesta Run, Tiny Death Star) and unique games that take advantage of the platform (Device6). I disagree with the post above about controls as well: some genres are better suited, true, but more often than not I am pleased with the controls in the games I am trying.

If you are looking for the blockbuster console experience, that's not really what you are going to find. But the gaming is good, and rounds out all the things you can do with the device nicely.

FWIW, I also think a person could get by fine with a 32gb. I would try to stay away from 16gb if you are going to do a lot of gaming, unless you are willing to manage your space.

I appreciate the input guys. I'm not going to settle for anything less than 128gb (rip wallet). I love a good rhythm game, and I've been wanting to scratch that Jubeat urge for so long. The only thing that's still somewhat upsetting is there still isn't really some sort of universal controller support, at least on the OS side. But I've invested a good amount in the app store already, and I love the support this platform gets.

I keep on flip flopping since it's such an investment (been flip flopping for years), but i'm going to cave eventually.

There is controller support now, we are just waiting on the third party controllers. It's easy for developers to add the api and many already have.

I feel it is worth it myself, I got one for gaming but now use it for almost everything other than productivity.

I guess this is the right place to go...

Is there any reason to game on an iPad over an iPhone or Touch? Is the larger screen really better? Are there more games? Is 16GB enough space if I just plan on having apps on it? I have good internet, so re-downloading is no problem, and I still have plenty of iOS games that will transfer over to my new device if I get it.

I've been out of the scene for a couple years because my Touch 4-gen is pretty outdated now, and was thinking about buying an iPad Air after seeing the Target Black Friday ad to jump back into the game with the latest device.

Edit: Saw PAULINK's post, but I think my questions are a little different.

Just get a 32gig. Most games are a gig or less. If you fill it, you should be playing the damn games instead of loading up on them. There is now controller support at the OS level, so expect the more popular games to be updated to support it. But you might be better off with a vita or 3ds.

You need at least a mini for most games. The phone just feels too cramped. I currently have a 16, but going up to a 32 because I felt that 12gig usable was not quite enough. Air might be too large depending on what you use it for. I'd suggest trying out both at the best buy.

IMO it's much much better than playing on the iPhone, but I'm getting old, so being hunched over a tiny little screen isn't as appealing as it once was to me. So you get a nicer bigger screen that is perfect especially for strategy/tactics/RPG/adventure games, works well with platformers as well. Plus you can do other things on it like read books and comics, watch telly in the bath, browse the internet in bed...

I was all about the iPhone till I got the pad, now I never play games on it beyond a token puzzle game for use when on the loo.

I have a 16gb model and while it's occasionally and pain in the arse I've not found the lack of space to be insurmountable. It encourages actually playing and completing them.

32gb retina mini is the sweet spot for iOS gaming imho. Enough storage, right size for gripping and using virtual controls when needed, enough screen real estate for iPad only games and that bit cheaper. The 10 hour battery helps as well.

I actually just got an iPod Touch 5G 32GB yesterday, upgrading from the iPod Touch 4G 8GB. I decided to upgrade cause I starting noticing that the latest apps/game on my iPod Touch 4G were either struggling to run, or something more common, not even boot past the main menu or crash quite regularly, (And what annoyed me is that this happened for Knack iOS!, which didn't seem such a hardware draining game)

Wanted to know what people's thoughts are on the iPod Touch 5G?
Was a bit worried reading it had the A5 chip and people saying it seemed quite outdated, but so far, I'm more impressed with it than I thought I'd be. Infinity Blade 3 for example runs pretty much flawlessly, which is great from the slightly stuttering gameplay from iPod Touch 4G and Knack iOS actually works. Want to get TWEWY Solo Remix on it, but £13... Guttering there was a sale for it just a few months ago for half price.

Also just in case anyone knows... does the iPod Touch 5G 16GB have slightly inferior hardware or something? I very nearly picked up the 16GB version, until I found out it didnt have a rear camera and it was like £30 more for double the storage and the camera, but when I got home and looked at TWEWY, I noticed it said it wouldnt work on 16GB models, just curious what the reason was...

Sounds good to me. The main reason I was looking at the Air is because they have it so you get a $100 giftcard back on Black Friday at Target (they didn't specifically say Minis in the ad), and I have 15% off anything in-store. I think you're right about the Mini though, because it's kinda what my mind/heart tells me the right thing really is, anyways. It just seems to be a more perfect fit.

I think my main thing will be mostly gaming, like some of the RPGs/Puzzle games and maybe a movie here or there. I'm getting the Breaking Bad Collectors Edition, and that has all free digital copies of the whole series, so maybe some of those on there too.

Sounds very nice. I'll think on this a lot more too, because I feel like once I make the jump I won't be able to go back lol.

I'll sit on this a bit then. I have about 2 weeks or so till I need to make a decision, but I feel like the Mini is probably a better choice as well. It's the sale that's tipping me over to the other side.

IIRC, wasn't it just the 4G insides put into the 5 16GB? Or something weird like that.

No I don't believe so and if so, its somehow a lot smoother/better than my 4G, ha ha.
I read its power is comparable to the iPhone 4S and it does use an A5 chip.

Just a little worried how long my iPod will last seeing its 2 chips behind already. Though then again, I dont really care for the best gaming experience on a mobile device. Just good enough to handle apps like Knack iOS, heck even the latest angry birds struggled on the 4G a little.

EDIT: Oh I thought you meant for iPod Touch 5G's in general. I actually can't find specs for that model specifically, but I found an apple advert about it claiming it had the A5 dual core still. I just wonder why TWEWY at least doesnt like the 16GB model for some reason. Not that it matters to me, just curious. Seemed I dodged a bullet anyway, would have been so annoyed to have bought it then found it couldnt run TWEWY, was a tempting reason to upgrade.
