Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Two friends of mine bought the Mario Bundle at Best Buy tonight. They were convinced when they came over last week to check out my PS4, but ended up playing an all nighter of 3DWorld. Unfortunately, Best Buy was sold out of 3DWorld, so they're hitting up Target, GameStop, and Walmart. If they don't find copies, they might just download it from the Eshop.

As long as X will be singleplayer focused and have a nice story, I'll be happy. For a while there, I was a litttttttttttle worried it would be multiplayer focused, but this is a Takahashi game... I can't see that happening. Co-op with friends on optional end-game missions would be a blast, though.

Also, I hope they don't have the Xenoblade approach to sidequests. Quality vs quantity please. Give me 30~ really involved questlines instead of 400+ generic MMO fodder quests.

These 3 games are top-tier games. Coincidently, I've just mentioned here at home after playing SM3DW that the Wii U is worth a purchase even if you are only going to play these 3 games. But, if you like survival horrors, buy ZombiU. It is obscenely cheap nowadays and it is a great experience. Probably the best use of the Gamepad so far. There is also Lego City, MoHun 3U, loads of titles on the eShop, Wind Waker if you haven't played it or is a Zelda fan and more.

I just recently played through Wind Waker for the 3rd time, and I don't quite like what they've done to the art style, either. I
won't use the b-word, I promised myself....
I have an aversion to Lego and Lego games, and I tried MonHun on the Wii and couldn't get into it, though it did seem like a good game.

ZombiU is interesting because I hate zombie games / books / movies etc, but everything I've seen and read about it makes it look like a must-play. If I get a 4th game I guess it'll be ZombiU.

They need to ditch it. It's dragging the console down by forcing the price up. Everything you did I can do with a Pro controller and an iPad. Or at the very least offer a version of the console that doesn't ship with it.
Pro Controller $50
iPad $600 - $1000

I paid $170 for my Wii U, it's pretty incredible.

Im playing through Xenoblade right now for the first time and yeah, the sidequests are pretty annoying. Is it worth it to plod through them,or can i skip them?

Back on topic, X looks great and i hope Nintendo really pulls back the curtain at the next Direct.

Picked up Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate today. It's been a while since I've gotten into a MH game--I forgot how much of a grind it can be to gather resources.

Unless you really want to say that you 100%'d Xenoblade, I wouldn't focus on the sidequests. Out of all the ones I did, only a small portion were worth it.

Wake me when 170 dollars is the standard price of the Wii U with the Gamepad included and we'll talk. As of now, there's over 100 million iPads sold and just over 4 million gamepads. While you may enjoy those features and abilities of the Gamepad, and I wont ever argue that they're bad, they're not a selling point for the masses, and the Wii U is intended to be a mass market console.

On a sadder topic, Mario 3D World game sales are a crime against gaming. This game is just pure joy. I just reached the 8th world and it's far and away the best game I've played all year. Probably last year as well.

Get them, but don't go out of your way to complete them.
You'll get most of them done just by playing normally.

Yep, pretty much. Pick up the quests as you see them, but don't go out of your way to complete them. If you finish a quest while exploring/doing main story, great, but I wouldn't worry about it. I actually did try to complete every quest before moving on, and it kind of hurts the pacing of the story doing that. If you feel like you are getting behind on levels and the game is too hard, do a few quests.

It's not about being delusional, it's asking for their methodology rather than blindly accepting their findings. If you played the game you would see that their findings don't seem right. There are several people on GAF that said the same thing about the game yet once DF ruled the performance as garbage their opinions were magically null and void.

If you want bad frame rate, look at Epic Mickey 2. AC4 is nowhere even close to that. It's just natural to question an "authority" than to just take their findings as gospel.

Who are those people? Should their impressions be trusted more than DF's years of experience in the field? I don't have any reason to doubt DF's findings, and I am not sure what the Trine 2 example you mentioned is about. Was an actual frame rate test done that turned out to be incorrect? If not, it's irrelevant.

Also DF attested Mario 3d World a perfect 60fps in the game areas they analyzed. Why would their setup work here, but not in other games?

You can doubt DF's editorials and even their capture methods (See BF4 comparison), but I don't think there is any solid proof to say they are messing up their Wii U framerate tests.

Oh!
The combat is real time, yes.
It works based on cool downs. You're always fighting but everything outside of auto attack has a cool down. In fact, a lot of moves require you to position yourself in certain places (something that seems to be even more emphasized in X than Xenoblade).

These GIFs are fucking glorious

From what I gathered from both trailers, it looks like you'll be able to customize and make your own character, I saw female and male versions in there. I also saw MP, so you would likely be able to roam around the land together with your friends and their dolls :O

Holy shit I just realized at the end of the second GIF, that's a GAMEPAD VIEW. :O

Haha. I dunno about that. It's really hard to say if that's a cinematic or what.

The Trine 2 tests for framerate, bloom lighting, and a couple of other graphical issues were initially bagged by DF until Frozenbyte corrected them. Eurogamer made the corrections in an update. DF may be around for a while, but they're not infallible to mistakes.

The other GAFers were in both OTs for AC4, which were quickly dismissed after DF made their claims.

I'm not saying they have some kind of agenda out here, but they have made mistakes before and shouldn't be taken as some kind of incontestable gospel. Experience it for yourself and make your own decision. You still didn't answer if you played it or not.

Why good Wii games are so hard to find? I can't find Xenoblade, or The Last Story at reasonable price fucking anywhere on the internet.
People who don't buy ZombiU are relatively equal to people who kill puppies. Just saying.

I don't like zombies and their derivative kind. So yes, I skipped TLoU too despite owning a PS3 just because of that reason.

Thanks! Game is great, but they just dump so many of these on you at once, the fact that some of them are timed makes me paranoid too.

I just came back from Walmart and they are still selling Sin and Punishment 2 for $50. Amazing.

I don't live in the US, so yeah, its basically that's that :/
The import taxes is what killing me. I don't mind paying $100 for Xenoblade as long as it is for the game alone not stupid taxes and shipping cost.
I manage to find Xenoblade, I hope the guy still have it due to high price lol

Had a chance to try off-TV play with Wind Waker while I was watching Billy Madison on TV (I'm real classy like that.) Kind of a nifty feature, especially since I'm in the Triforce Hunt part of the game, so there's nothing terribly involving going on. That said, I can't see myself using it too often. The downgrade in video and audio is just too severe for it to be an enjoyable way to really play anything, at least for me.

Also, I played like 9 hours of Wind Waker HD today.

I've been playing a lot of MH3U on bed with headphones, it's a great experience and I don't really feel the downgrade of audio.

Picked up three games this week and was thinking to myself. It is time to pick up a better Gamepad battery. I get so absorbed in playing that before I know it I look down and the battery light is flashing. This past spring / summer the Nyko battery pak had some hype behind it but sadly it was a flop for most buyers. I know Europe has access to official Nintendo batteries but any word on when Nintendo is bringing these battery to the US? I'm surprise they haven't started selling them on the Nintendo Online Store yet.

I have watched the trailers for X a bunch of times, but this is the first time I noticed the character in the bottom gif while he shoots the creature in the air.

You can use the game pad or Wii remote to scroll around the plaza and select the other Miis. Each mii has a post from miiverse that will appear if you select it.

The games can also be launched using their icon in WaraWara plaza if you own it, although its easier to just use the other screen.

I havent used it in awhile, but not sure if you can do this on the TV, but if you switch the miiverse to the gamepad, then you can scroll around the plaza, click on people to see their posts, and go to that post in miiverse as well as add them as friends, etc. You can also click on the icons to go to those conmunities.

Also as with most recent Mario games, the real challenge doesnt start until you "beat the game"

Thanks guys! I reached world 5 in M3DW and it's getting more challenging, especially to find every star/stamp. I adore the soundtrack.

btw I could use some WiiU-friends, my ID is Creamium so feel free to add me.

I'm loving the tv remote functions, but is there any way to make the input switch switch my AV receiver rather than the tv? Otherwise that particular feature is useless.

When I say jrps I mean all rpgs. The way they work and the combat systems isn't going for me.

I'm kind of the same a lot of the time. And Xenoblade was terrible like that.

-Ludicrous overarching narrative
-Corny dialogue and silly relationships (although the voice actors themselves were largely far better than you'd expect)
-A battle system that was fun but never evolved due to enemies having no AI
-Ridiculous amounts of fetch quests etc

It had a lot of the very worst of RPGs in it, no doubt about that. Which is why it blows my mind that it is my game of the generation and probably in my top 5 all time. It's just a fucking masterpiece, and it's hard to explain why.

Still not buying too many games to play :( *replays Generations*

I just got 3D World and omggg so magical. Mario hasn't felt this great in years!

The water on this level was so pretty... This whole game is beautiful! I haven't seen anything on consoles that compares to this.

I was pretty blown away by Kameo back on the 360 launch, even now it still has some great look areas. It's a shame there still aren't more games this last gen that tried to go for cartoony/bright/colorful artstyles like that outside of what Rare did for Kameo, Viva Pinata and Nuts & Bolts.

It's great seeing that technical power in a Nintendo console now with stuff like Wonderful 101 and 3D World.

Ooh, there's a question. Does the Wii U have the 3DS's incredible data tracking app? The one that tells you how much you've played and when? I bloody love that thing.

I was so ashamed to learn that I put 160 hours of time into Pokemon X in two weeks. Really brought home my current unemployment situation.

As for the gamepad, that's exactly how I felt from what I've used of it, and that's pretty much the reason it hasn't caught on as some must-have feature, I believe.

Yea I have a few games left to finish on Wii U but I was really interested in it since talk of that update that came out last week.

Okay, earlier in this thread some helpful folk convinced me to buy a WiiU this Christmas.
Yay!

But now I need help. When I had the Wii I lived in America. Now I've moved back home to Ireland. I have a library of 20+ Wii games, and about 300 dollars worth of VC and WiiWare titles.

I can easily get an NTSC Wii U, and it would be considerably cheaper. Is this what I should do? Are there any issues with this? I'd have to import all my games, obviously, but I'm assuming I couldn't move my VC from an NTSC Wii to a PAL Wii U, right? And I couldn't take advantage of the upgrade prices, right?

Would I be region blocked from getting patches and playing multiplayer if I was on a Canadian WiiU playing from Ireland? If not I feel like it's pretty much a no-brainer, but I'd really like some input on this. Damn Nintendo and their region locking ways.

I don't think you'd be region locked, but yeah you probably can't send your Wii stuff to your Wii U.

This needs to be bumped, quoted, liked, retweeted, pinterested, or whatever else it takes to spread the word. Unless you hate zombies (or puppies) you have no excuse not getting this game at the easy to find sub-$20 price.

I hate zombies to death; most boring monster trope ever invented, and even I'm going to pick it up. So there's no excuse!

I do hope X will have more variety. I stopped playing Xenoblade after fifteen hours or so because it's basically only combat. And while it's real-time, menu driven combat is still dull, especially if you have to do more or less the same sequence all the time.

Sort of interested in that game. Visuals are certainly great. Is the content real-time?

I'm not sure what you mean by real time?

That picture is from in engine, as far as we know (considering it looks like everything else in the trailer).

Might as well inform him that Nintendo doesn't do CG bullshit trailers. Mainly because barely any of their games have CG cutsceness (other m was an exception in that case)

Wait, has there actually been confirmation by Nintendo themselves that this is an online multiplayer game?

Nintendo hasn't said anything about this game other than that it exists.

These GIFs are fucking glorious

It's quite unlikely. More likely is that you can just switch out party members exactly like in Xenoblade. In the now locked thread discussing and analyzing the trailers, we had identified multiple characters at some point.

I am looking forward to X as much as the next player, but my god that explosion animation lol.

Note how this footage is now from a build that is a year old. I'm curious how things will have shaped up by the time it launches or at least is seen again. There was also a nice bump by E3.

Guys, how do I sync my new Wii U Pro controllers?

Press the red button on the WiiU (the one with "sync" over it if I remember correctly)

wait a second, a text will appear that says that you have to press the red button on the controller (on the back side).

Wait again.

And it is ready to go.

You can't move your NTSC Wii content to a PAL Wii U, so the best option is to get a NA Wii U. Depending on each game, the online might be region locked too, so you will play against NA players.
