Wii U eshop Games

I like that they went eshop only instead of just canceling the game, other games almost finished should have done that also, like Young Justice league and Aliens CM, I know they are bad games but people get the chance to play them and their is no retail risk.

Crysis 3 was supposedly near finished when it was canned before launch. I'm still baffled they didn't just put it on the e-shop. Even sent them a message inquiring about that, after the news that EA wouldn't be involved in the series' future iirc.

If Cryteck has all rights to Crysis games and can publish it themselves I think Cryteck would do it, even on their website they promote Cryengine for WiiU development and said that it runs great on WiiU.

But if its up to EA if wont happen even if EA doesnt have to do anything

It's up to EA, which is why it was canceled before the WiiU even launched.

Thank you very much to Zajora. I'll amend the OP initial text as suggested.
I like the graphic, and if you would like to post some games I'll updated the OP accordingly.

Sorry I never made the new graphics, Aostia. I had intended to, but I haven't felt particularly inspired, and I'm apparently lazier than I thought!

What do you think about this?

Chasing Aurora Trailer

If i may suggest some things...
I would definitely chose a different font type. Something a bit more heavy for the title, and something a bit more readable for the smaller info. (only for/off-tv/genre/dev...). You don't have to use the same font if the function of the text is different (header vs body/info). I'd go with a rather simple font for the smaller text. But definitely lose the drop shadow for the smaller text (i would also drop it for the title, but at least there it isn't interfering with readability).

I would also put the WiiU logo in white and not grey. Also the blue doesn't mix with the orange that well. Maybe changing the color from organge to black for this section could solve both problems with one stroke. You could consider changing the entire color scheme from orange/white to orange/black... (though then you might suffer from readability problems with the center text on the image if the image is dark). You could also consider using the WiiU official colors, that way you know you'll never get into problems like the logo not fitting into your color scheme.
Also put the WiiU logo a tad smaller, so it has a bit more room to "breathe" because now it is getting a bit too tight in there.

Thanks for your input.

I've been thinking of changing the font for the descriptive text, since the one I'm using doesn't have the vertical bar or slash characters. The drop shadow is necessary for when the background image has highlights near the text, since I'm not using any kind of overlay behind the text on the background. I did adjust the drop shadow to have a higher spread.

I used orange based on suggestions from other people, since that's the primary color used for the eShop's UI. I'll try changing the "Wii" text gray text to white and making it a bit smaller.

In the blog post where the Wii U version was announced they also detail the progress they made since releasing the TechDemo. They also put it in video form.

Looks and plays interesting. I'm curious how it will turn out.

Played the demo a bit and seems like a potentially fun game. I hope they add Wiimote+Nunchuk support though. That's how I would like to play that game.

Sure, i understand the part about the dropshadow on an image (so it doesn't disappear on lighter parts), i was mainly talking about the text on the orange backgrounds.

This design is much better already imo.

Sorry for the nitpicking, it's an occupational deformation on my part.

Somebody over at Reddit posted a nice list of upcoming (and failed) Kickstarters coming to Wii U. Might want to check that out and refer anyone who says "there are no indie games coming to Wii U" to that post :p

seems good.

Updates:

Project Cars update: I still don't know if this should be here or in the Retail games thread, btw:

Black DROP U update:
The following comes from BLOK DROP U's creator, Michael Aschenbrenner...
Basically it (HTML5) is a web-based programming language. The same type of code that generates websites can now be used for interactive entertainment. ...Of course none of this would be possible without tools and documentation from Nintendo. Most of the code is natural HTML5, but there are situations when hardware or services must be called into your project that require specific Nintendo API's (application programming interface). (The experience was) easier than I anticipated.

A World of Keflings update:
Sadly, we didn't release A World of Keflings for the Wii U last year. Thankfully, Keflings will be arriving in the latter half of Q1 2014.

UNepic update:
Unepic will be released on Thursday 23th January 2014 on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo WiiU™.

Nintendo created a very nice Japanese website for Trine 2. I really hope the game sells well over there and Nintendo decides to publish more indie games.

Edit: Here you can take a look at the Japanese PDF manual (2.38 MB).

everytime I see Trine2, I love it a little more. Purchased at launch on the Wii U, was gorgeous to look at, and satisfyint to play with. Floating physics aside ;p
I know they are porting it to PS4 now: I hope they can raise some more budget to go ahead with Trine3, that hopefully will hit Wii U too (I think they were satisfied with the Wii U sales so far)

There will be no Trine 3. They said they are done with the Trine universe after two, if I'm not totally crazy.

I hate you :p
Hopefully they'll work on something with similar artistic value and atmpshere, also for wiiu.

$2? With quarterly updates?

Bought.

yeah, seems smart.

btw, maybe I'll be able to test UNepic earlier compared to its PAL release. Eventually, I'll give some impression

Will be similar to mine in that sense too. (ZaciSa's Last Stand, tower defense). Plan to make it $2.99 launch price with free updates later on to bring in extra maps and new features for free.

Hey, great! Did you anticipate a Q2 release for your game?

Man Two Tribes is great, I told them about how Toki Tori 2+ didnt work well on my laptop on steam, and they gave me a WiiU eshop code thats so cool gotta love indies.

I am glad you had a good resolution to your issue. I should mention that they never replied to my email about Edge and problems with playing it. (I have really gone sour on Two Tribes ever since I heard about what happens at the end of Toki Tori.)

I noticed on the Play Store a while ago, they had an update "Slowed down color cycling/cube flashing"

That is really interesting, I wonder if that had anything to do with my message. I would have really appreciated a direct reply if so, though. Thanks for the info!

I got Unepic in a PC bundle month ago and thought it was pretty fun. I held off on getting deep into it because the Wii U version was coming and I knew I'd prefer playing it on a console, so I bought the port this morning and have been enjoying it so far. The controls have been thoughtfully implemented, aside from the glaring oversight of locking character movement to the analog stick. In a 2D platformer, the D-Pad needs to be an option, especially when it's one as nice as what's on the GamePad. Haven't checked compatibility with any Pro controllers, though.

That being said, I'm nowhere close to having played enough to really rate the game, but I do think if you're interested, it's worth jumping in at $10.

If you were looking forward to it I'm not sure what you expected. It's a Tetris clone there's not much else you can do with it. I've been enjoying it.
They refer to slippery controls, and wanting more flexibility with what counts as joining pills up. I noticed that and agreed. I also expected a story mode.

I was expecting something more like Puyo Puyo/Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

I bought F1 Race Stars tonight and I'm seriously surprised. Its really a kart game where driving skills somewhat matters. Outside the career you can set up a race to fit anyones needs.

I must say that braking in a kart game feels fresh and new. Not unfitting at all.

KERSboosts is the second layer that rewards players who knows how to take a corner.

WiiU version is the only version without online racing...

Unepic is pretty fun so far. I knew it would be as detailed as it was going to be but actually experiencing it is something else.Might play a bit more then I'm going to put it aside until this weekend.

I was dubious not being a fan of browser games ... until I tried it.
A good demo, of what looks to be a game worth checking out later on.

I picked up Unepic yesterday also, and I'm pleasantly surprised so far. That's one game where the giantbomb quick look did not do much to sell me on the game. They were really bad at it, and barely got anywhere into it. Once it opens up, it really seems like there's a lot to explore and do in that game. Pretty fun so far.

Sounds like just about any GB quick look for a game they didn't happen to accidentally review before quicklooking. Toki Tori 2 fared even worse. Completely missed everything that's great about that game.
