I had a feeling Eugene was playing everyone. Good episode - this season has been very consistent with moving things forward.

I hope one day we'll get a showdown of the Ricktatorship and TotalitAbrahamism.

With the way Eugene was 'running' from those walkers, I'm surprised he survived long enough to even find Abe.

Although with how manipulative he is, I wonder if he purposely lured walkers over to someone who looked tough so they could 'save' him. It's sort of that psychological effect where if you get someone to do you a favor, they are more inclined to do you more favors.

So get someone to 'save' you and they will keep you alive. They have already invested in you and are psychologically driven to see that investment 'pay off'.

Maybe I'm thinking too much about it, but that scene was too silly otherwise. He wasn't even trying to get away from those zombies. I refuse to believe anyone is that helpless. It had to have been a ploy.

Really strong episode this week. Maybe it is because these characters are new, or at least unexplored, but they are much more interesting than the older group members. Glen and Maggie haven't really had anything to do this season and could be gone for all I care. The season is 4 for 5 so far, definitely the best run they have had.

Still quite frustrated with ending 3 straight episodes with cliffhangers that won't get resolved for a month. Next episode better run all the way up to, and past, when Daryl comes out of woods at the church with whoever is with him. We all know the storylines will dovetail together like the lead-up to Terminus but these cliffhangers and jumping back and forth on the timeline is cheap and growing tiresome.

Just know that I immediately realized I missed the K in the name but was just way too lazy to edit it :p

:p

ok, i was hoping that the walking dead was approaching the end with eugene having the "cure". i had my doubts about him, but it seems that it will drag on for several seasons.

The Walking Dead is the most successful show on TV, by a wide margin, and it's not ending any time soon. Plus, it's based on a comic series that is still going strong.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Eugene's pathetic run coupled with the weak "S-save me!" was obviously just a put on in order to manipulate Abraham into protecting him.

"I'm smarter than you"

It really is a great moment though when you realize that Eugene basically saved Abraham's life and then it cuts to the rpesent. Thought that was really well done.

Good episode. Changed things up a bit compared to the comic.

In the comic, when Abraham and Rick meet up Abraham tells the story of he lost his family and killed the men who violated them.

Also, Rick is the one who discovers Eugene is not a scientist when Eugene tries to use a radio to send a signal and Rick finds out the radio didn't have any batteries.

yo that was definitely the best episode this season. The DC crew are waaayyyy more interesting than Rick or Daryl's squads.

Also, the show fleshed out Eugene a lot more than the comic. He didn't do or say much in the comic and the instant he came clean about lying he vanished. Been awhile since I read the comic but I think Rick and Abraham just abandon him.

Comic spoiler (up to issue 136):
He isn't featured as much after Abraham's death, but he takes a big part in rebuilding Alexandria after All Out War.

(tag comic discussion. even though the show is mostly different, people who haven't read the comics may still want to read them unspoiled one day)

He helps the group make ammo and plays a crucial role in All Out War.

I'm guessing Eugene killing the Army truck with the M16 last season was an "accident" also.

Best episode of the Walking Dead... Which isn't saying much, but still... Characters like Eugene and Abrahams are so ridiculously stupid and fun that's it's depressing to think the show is going back to the dreadful rest of the cast next episode. Show needs more colorful characters.
Are you serious with this post?

"which isn't saying much"

"dreadful rest of the cast"

I think I remember your user name from earlier in TWD threads always shitting on it like this. That legit made me smh in disgust. Give it a damn rest.

i mean he's right though. No one in Rick or Daryl's squad are anywhere near as interesting as Abe and Eugene.

Did Eugene really say the walkers are getting faster? Holy shit mr. "scientist" has no cardio even compared to Dale.

I think in theory he was supposed to have been running from them for a long time, but it just wound up looking like he couldn't be bothered to actually run.

Oh wow the latina chick is Suzie Crabgrass!

Episode was definitely filler which usually annoys me but it made Abe way more interesting and likeable to me, one of my favorite characters now. Hopefully he doesn't die this season.

I thought Eugene really was a scientist, didn't see this reveal coming. I'm kind of disappointed actually because I like the idea of a big meaningful end goal for characters. Just having their motivation be "survival" is boring. I wish there really was a possible cure, I mean there might be but I don't like that they killed that hope for now.

The cure concept wouldn't even have to be the end of the show either because you could have them make cures and then go out and find people to spread it, thus continuing the adventures.

I'm really hesitant to ding Slabtown without seeing what it's building to first. Remember how some outlets were complaining after the premiere that nobody died and there were no consequences? Last week was even more transparently the first step in another arc. Let's see where it goes.

There's no reason not to believe him unless you purposefully mistrust every character on the show. There weren't any hints that I can recall.
"That's classified." Killing the truck accidentally on purpose. Never in a hurry to move forward to DC.

This was one of the better episodes in a long time but let's not go overboard with the defense force here. Its a pretty flawed show overall.

With that said. Eugene and Abe have been the most fascinating characters so far this season In what has been mostly a stalemate in terms of interesting character development or arcs for the long term main cast. I am genuinely curious how their story arc plays out from here. Beth I could care less about still. Most eye-rolling character on the show. Hope her story is wrapped up quickly so the writers can move on to the more interesting characters.

1. He's a dick.
2. His excuse about not being useful once they got to DC, while flimsy/stupid, isn't hard to believe on this show. I'm sure it's happened before (can't remember right now) where another character feels depressed/useless and someone else gives them a pep talk saying you mean a lot to us, so on and so on, then the character feels better. I'm almost certain other characters have sabotaged the groups efforts before, I just can't remember who/what right now. edit - the drunk guy from the wire, bob, i think? Maybe Carl too. Shane was unpredictable also.
3. Preferring safety/security, at least temporarily to regroup, as opposed to moving quickly all the time. Almost every other character except Abe felt this way.

It's kinda' obvious if you think about it. Scientist with a mullet, talks about videogames, gives vague answers about his mission.

Or you didn't interpret clues as clues. His actions have long been consistent with not being who he said he was. The writers even drew attention to that fact this very episode by having Maggie say it aloud (while meaning something other than an accusation, but the double meaning is a floodlight): "You're not the person people think you are".

The only "clue" is sabotaging the truck, and his excuse was dumb, but not in the context of the show which has had lots of characters say and do dumb things which didn't end in a dramatic reveal, just a simple moral or psychological failure. It just wasn't a huge red flag to me.

The truck I'm talking about is from last season, and his only excuse then was his inexperience with a rifle, contrasted against Abraham's firsthand knowledge of the vehicle having survived far worse and (initial) disbelief in Eugene's ability to accidentally cripple it. In hindsight it adds a veneer of possibility that Eugene knew precisely where to hurt it, no? That's the clue I'm talking about. The church bus is a clue unto itself. Makes him look like a patterned serial killer of vehicles.

LOL

I had a feeling Eugene didn't know shit!!! Right from the start. I didn't think they would let it unravel so quick though.

It's pretty sad really.

I actually don't remember that so I can't say, but I would've likely thought it was just because he was a scared nerd who didn't know how to shoot (which is true anyway). But yes that makes sense in hindsight.

That was the excuse he used, but it's not entirely consistent with the guy being smart enough to concoct a mission to keep Abraham on the hook and Macgyver numerous situations along the way. Guy that smart doesn't pick up a gun he says he doesn't know how to use unless he's okay with something awful happening, like shooting the gas tank at point blank (accidentally on purpose).

So....Eugene is dead right? Abraham definitely killed him?

No. The sequence of events was Abraham kills someone that looks like Eugene . He starts trying to calm down his wife and kids. He tracks them down after they run away. He saves Eugene after finding the dead bodies.

Why we probably saw someone that looked like Eugene was that Abe was just putting Eugene 's face on another person he killed back in Houston while he was recalling that painful memory.

It seems like Abe essentially wants to commit suicide again.

Ok episode, glad we got over this "there is a cure in DC" nonsense.
Minor complaint: Would you really drive at full speed with music on in a hostile, desterted land like this? It´s like begging for a surprise to happen.

That's a very cool analysis of past events. Eugene definitely shot that army truck on purpose.
