2.4 billion dollar Revel Casino Hotel shuts down in Atlantic City after only 2 years

That makes it even WORSE. Chris Christie has invested state money into a ton of shit projects at this point while cutting employee benefits and putting off legally obligated pension contributions. And as he does all of this he talks about how he came together with a Dem legislature to "balance the budget."

I like Christie's personality, but the problem is that if you're going to be that goddamn confrontational you sure as hell better be right. He rarely is.

He said he would kick in money for Xanadu if the people taking over agreed to redo the exterior. He was fully aware of how much residents hated it, and wanted to make sure it got fixed up. The thing is, no one wanted to touch it.

Atlantic City is an absolute dump. I went there after I turned 21 with my older brother and stayed at the Harrah's when they were hosting a deadmau5 concert. The entire hotel was littered with guido trash; Ed Hardy shirts, hair gel, thick chains, fake tans, gallons of cheap cologne, the whole nine.

I will literally never go back there. I experienced a slight case of culture shock

Harrah's sucks not surprised at all by your experience but out of curiosity have you been to any other Casinos either in AC or elsewhere? I only ask because outside of maybe Vegas, Casinos tend to draw a certain crowd.

Your shocked that you got that from a jersey casino? All types from over the state come there especially the little shits from north Jersey

I didn't really know what to expect. I had seen those types of people on TV, but seeing them in person just seemed strange. My brother and I drove up from Maryland in on a rainy day in October so I was wearing comfortable clothing (northface pullover, athletic shorts, and sandals. From the time we got out of our car to the time we got into our room, I had 3 different groups of guidos talk shit to me about my outfit.

What really breaks my heart is the restaurant Amada closing there. It was one of the best dining experiences I ever had. I hope it ends up moving to a different location.

The original Amada is in Philly, along with Jose Garces' other restaurants, all very good. He opened a restaurant in Moorestown NJ too which may be closer for you.

Now, in regards to AC, its a DUMP, they cannot make a resort town there because you cant walk anywhere outside and actually feel completely safe or not see signs of poverty. Yes, vegas is a dump in a lot of places (and very very unsafe) but the heart of town is isolated from it. You cant not see it in AC.

And in 20yrs ocean levels will be close to reclaiming it all.

I've been to Vegas numerous times ( 8 total, 3 with being over 21 and able to gamble), and have bee nto all the major casinos on the Strip,, most of the ones on the Old Strip, and even several of the Station casinos scattered around that attract more local clientele.

We also have a pretty decent casino here in Maryland called Maryland Live that I used to go to almost every other weekend to lose all the money I had accrued in the previous two weeks prior to going.

None of the casinos I've been to had such an awful crowd. Sure, they had their rough looking patrons that were visibly alcoholics or gambling addicts (usually both), but they mostly kept to themselves. The people in Atlantic City would straight up talk shit to me and my brother just for passing by.

Sorry to hear that. I would equate the guidos in AC to the folks/promoters on the Vegas strip passing out hand bills for strip clubs or escorts. Just part of the scenery, easier to ignore and move along.

So this place was supposed to be a seaside pleasure palace? In a town where 8 months of the year it's too cold to use the beach or pool, this was their indoor solution for a 3800 room hotel:

Looking at the other pictures, the beach was bland as shit, and the hotel is just completely sterile.

Revel is a beautiful and entirely uninspired, generic complex. Aria and Cosmo are brimming with character and charm in Vegas, by comparison.
Totally agree.

That said, for AC I thought it was still pretty great. Borgata def the way to go tho, but really- just stay away from AC at this point.

No one gives a fuck if you want to destroy your own health (well, actually, that's a much bigger waste of tax payer money in the long run than pretty much anything else tax money is being spent on), but smoking has bad effects on people who don't want to subject themselves to people's stupid, irrational, inconsiderate, jerk-ish behaviour and not just the stupid people who smoke. It's more about protecting people who don't smoke from the harmful effects of being around people who are smoking than protecting people who smoke.
That's not true.

I stayed at the Aria last time I went to Vegas and was somewhat unimpressed with it's decor. The vanilla scent was pleasant though. By comparison, the Cosmo is absolutely gorgeous. There is so much attention to detail that makes the entire building seem like a work of art

I hate smoking too.

But isn't there sufficient technology out there now to deal with it? Some air filter system that takes it out of the room before really affecting anything.

Saw it one one of the Bar Rescue shows.

I visited Revel a few times for the casino but never stayed the night. It was always just too expensive compared to the other offerings in AC. Seems to me that going after wealthier clientele is tough in AC, because wealthy folks in nyc/philly probably just head to vegas if they want a high-end casino experience. I wonder who will ultimately buy the property, and what they'll end up doing with it.

I stayed at both of these in May. Quite sad.
Not a big gambler but I am a drinker and people watcher so I love Atlantic City. At least in the warm months.

I've never been to Jersey - though I do like to smoke when gambling/drinking on vacation, so it probably wouldn't fit me.

I have zero issues with private places banning smoking. It's their place. It's the smoking laws I have a problem with. If bars, bowling alleys, and casinos wish to allow smoking - why should they not allow it on their private property? If enough of their patrons leave due to it, the market will work itself out. I currently vape, and I respect many bars that choose not to allow that, either. Though I get a little miffed when our legislature starts talking forced bans to push it out of those places that do allow it.

Just got back from AC trip last week. Was gonna stay at the Revel but it closed before I got time off. Stayed at the Tropicana and had a good time.
