I am pretty excited by the 3 games announced by CAPCOM. It's not that I believe that 2.5D= Assured fun but well, considering this way of orienting games has produced so great masterpieces I am pretty confident they will be great games.

Oh, feel free to add new games to the list if I have forgotten them !

Forgot about this one ! I really enjoyed it:
Psychic Killer Taromaru

Oh ! And a tribute to 2 classic "remakes" for the Dreamcast. I really enjoyed the remade 3D backgrounds:

KOF 99 Dreammatch ~ (Kof 98)

Goemon 2! Such a charming game. Catchy music, colorful graphics, a fun setup and tried-&-tested 2d gameplay.

It had been mentioned yes, but with no image. I had already seen that post and thought it was a crime that he didn't even include an image.

My favorite, although it's often scorned:
B00000I1BQ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

(Particularly Crash Bandicoot 2, but 1 was good)

Pandemonium

And it's not a favorite of mine, but Zaxxon was always a classic.

well soorrryyy :P

Jeez, so many good games, so many good memories.

I really hope that the 2.5 game sticks around. It's sad to see that you can barely find them on consoles anymore.

GO DS GO!!!

Wild 9 (although masterpiece might be a stretch)

Wild 9 was awesome!

Anyone remember that Wild 9 contest at the Playboy mansion? 5 gamers competed to see who could win the game the most times in a 99 hour stretch, with only 15 minute food/bathroom breaks. Only one gamer made it, if I remember correctly.

While not a masterpiece, does anyone have an MP3 of Crystal Dynamic's "Pandemonium" stage 1 music?

While scrolling down the thread this is the only game that came to mind. But still is no masterpiece by any means.

A lot of Saturn stuff came to mind... not all classics however. Sorry for all the screens.

Clockwork Knight 1/2 (Saturn):

Guardian Heroes (Saturn):

it's like Halo + Metal Slug

except instead of being great it's merely okay.
It's nice for $6.99.

soukyugurentai is pretty much 2d. besides the buildings in stage 1 and the wireframe targeting webs, i can't think of any 3d elements. but people have started mentioning all sorts of games that aren't "2.5d" as i understand it.

i replayed strider 2 not long ago. if you can get over its ugly graphics and its dissimilarity to strider 1, it's an excellent action platformer that lends itself to score play. much better than i'd remembered. they should do strider 3 on psp.
