Chris Broussard and Skip Bayless bring up so great points on the Lakers.

1. People say "blow up" the Lakers like it's going to be easy. Everyone worth trading on the Lakers is old except Bynum. Kobe isn't going anywhere, Odom and Artest are not netting you anything worth while, and Pau is 30 and looks softer then ever.

2. Kobe clearly can't carry a team anymore. So you can't built around him. He is old, not the same player he was, and needs to become a second option.

3. Bynum wanted out of the game. He fouled JJ with the purpose of leaving. He quit on the Lakers. The moment he hit him, he immediately walked to the locker room.

4. They should have traded Bynum for Carmelo at the deadline. They are going to offer him for Dwight and CP3, but Bynum may not net anything since he has no heart.

Skip also kept calling him Andrew Bi-monthly, because he will only give you a few good games a month at most.

They weren't saying that last summer, that's for fucking sure. There were countless arguments as to how much of a window the Lakers had. Plenty said not long, and Lakers fans were irate saying they had at least another three seasons in them at a championship caliber level.

The fact that Lakers fans suddenly started realizing it halfway through the season is cool and all, but don't pretend that Lakers fans weren't all about "we told you they'd flip the switch! Threepeat, bitches! Plan the parade! All over my face!" after they reeled off like 18 of 20 wins after the ASG.

Me saying they didn't give a fuck and had other priorities doesn't necessarily require a TMZ-based argument one bit. Plenty of teams with super high talent suddenly don't start giving a fuck when shit hits the fan. Just look at the Cavaliers before Lebron left. It's a domino effect.

I haven't made that argument, anyhow. Pau turning into a bitch in the playoffs, is again, an observation, not an excuse nor argument. Lamar being a no-show in games 2 and 4, is again, an observation, not an excuse nor argument. We don't even have to go into Fisher's play and Artest's stupidity or Bynum's inconsistency.

You managed to get all of those guys to buy into the gameplan for two rings, what changed? None of those guys suffered any debilitating injuries -- although I will buy that Kobe is fatigued. But the others? I don't buy it.

I argued that the Lakers still have that window and still do. They need to refocus, rest and made some changes this offseason, but Pau and Kobe will still be there and I'm willing to bet the Lakers will finish as one of the top 3 or 4 seeds in the West. That doesn't change. Yes Laker fans this offseason thought the additions of Blake and Barnes and a healthy Bynum would help to quell that fatigue but it didn't workout that way. Blake never got it together, Barnes fell off a cliff after knee surgery. Bynum played well but it wasn't enough. That doesn't mean they "don't give a fuck". They wanted to win these games, their bodies just didn't respond. That's actually how I knew this shit was different than coasting, in game 2 they actually tried hard. Tried to get rebounds, got open shots, nothing fell their way. That was pretty much the death certificate when we start to lose those games.

Brian Shaw has ZERO losses as a head coach.

Next coaching GOAT?

Calling it right now. See you assholes in 2035 to rub it in your faces.

Looking at lakers salary..

ok who gave that contract to Walton?

The sad part is at the time, it wasn't that bad of a contract because of the state of the franchise. Luke was legitimately our 3rd best player. Plenty of Laker fans will deny it now, but we felt like we had to lock Luke up.

I don't understand why they're so hesitant to pick up Adelman or JVG. Yeah, they're not Phil, but they're still pretty damn fine coaches. It also continues the tradition of LA stealing personnel from Houston.

What's the big deal with Shaw? He hasn't even done anything. Is it just because he's a LA fan favorite?

He's been groomed under Phil. The players know him. He knows the players. He won't make too many waves in terms of system. Kobe/Pau/Lamar and co. will be here for at least 3 more years and despite what reactionary fools say, will still be in contention, so you want to just try to extend that run and not blow it all up and install a brand new offensive system.

They will not be in contention. Stop being delusional. Kobe had the chance to close out 3 games against the Mav's and couldn't beat Jason Kidd. Pau looked like the softest player in the league. Bynum quit on the Lakers last night. Artest is worthless and Odom is more of a TV star now then a basketball player.

Sure they will make the playoffs, but they will not contend for anything.

It's over, let it fucking go.

But just because someone's groomed under someone else doesn't mean they're fit to be a head coach.

Look at John Kuester. He was groomed under Mike Brown (who is a solid DEFENSIVE coach), and he managed to be worse than him. And Mike Brown was groomed under Popovich.

I guess you could counterpoint with Thibodeau because he was a JVG disciple, and JVG was a Riley disciple.

Phil Jackson doesn't even have a lineage yet. Are there any Phil Jackson disciples in the league? He has always had the same general staff (and it always consists of a few former players).

The work itself is great.

The fact that he's gonna have that until the day he dies is not.

They will finish top 3 or 4 in the West next year. That's contention. I'm not saying they will win a title, but they also have no reason to blow up the team (which isn't even possible, it's not like you can cut players). Besides, people have been claiming the window shut for teams like Dallas and Boston for the last 2 years and they're still alive and kicking.

Dallas and Boston have never gone out like the Lakers. The Lakers looked like they didn't even want to be on the court with each-other. Dallas also continues to refresh their roster with young talented players. The Lakers can't do this b/c they have no room financially.

keeping the Lakers together is the worst thing that can happen. They will turn into a treadmill team. Making the playoffs but going nowhere. They will have no hope for the future. No financial flexibility and no young talent. By the time it's all over in 2014 the team will be in such rough shape nobody is going to want to go there.

The only hope Lakers will have at that point is if Demar Derozan and Brandon Jennings turn into Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade and both want to go home and play in LA in 2014.

Edit:

SportsNation question on ESPN.com:

How should the NBA deal with Andrew Bynum?

1-2 game suspension

3-5 game suspension

6-9 game suspension

10 game suspension or more

nothing at all

YEah losing as the 1 seed to an 8 seed and getting crushed in the Finals by Wade and the refs weren't demoralizing to the franchise at all. LOL at all this history revising. People were ready to call the Mavs done after those, shut the window and write Dirk's legacy as an alltime choker. And your realize Dallas has been as cap strapped as any team and was able to refresh the roster with young talented players? You can do it through drafting and smart trading/free agent signings. It's not like they are going out signing young franchise players to max contracts. Guys like Terry and Kidd and Marion were all but given up on.

The guard selections are laughable, Kobe was a bad defender this season and Rondo is very average.

Kobe hasn't played defense in 3 years. LeBron just roams around like a bum. NBA Awards are like lifetime achievement awards (except for the Citizenship award, lulz).

1. When this happened to Dallas Dirk was still in his prime. Kobe on the other hand is finished. He isn't the same player he was. He is in the twilight of his career. There is no more building around Kobe.

2. Kobe had the chance to close out all 3 games, and choked. Skip broke it down perfectly. He did not score in crunch time, committed two crucial turn overs, and bricked a buzzer beater. All this with ancient Jason Kidd defending him.

3. You have no room to make trades outside of Bynum. Nobody is going to trade anything of value for Pau, Artest or Odom. It's not going to happen. The Lakers are in the WORST financial shape of any team in the NBA in relation to the cap. You don't have the assets to get a Chandler, or Marion and you have no Terry.

You are really in some different place right now. You are in a state of delusion. I don't blame you, I am not hating on the Lakers. You need to understand, like EVERYONE ELSE, including Magic Johnson, the Lakers as you know them are finished. You need to blow up the team.

You can't build a team around Kobe and expect to win a championship anymore. He looked slow, tired, and simply could not get it done (so did Pau). It happens to all players. Even Jordan.

Comparing this Laker team to Dallas of multiple years ago shows what type of frame of mind you are in.

Derrick Rose got 14x as many votes for all-defense than Bogut did. Westbrook got 13x as many votes as Bogut. What the fuck.
Westbrook and Rose got more than Gerald, Tim Duncan, Al Horford, Josh Smith, Ron Artest, Serge Ibaka, Thabo Sefalosha, Wesley Matthews, and Kendrick Perkins.

This is sad.

The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position.
Did somebody accidentally send 30 ballots to Mike D'Antoni and Jay Triano? Wtf is this?

You are basing this on how "demoralizing" this loss was. Teams CAN recover from it. People were saying the same thing in 08 when we lost to Boston by 40. Oh man the team will never recover! Pau is just too soft he'll never get it done! Kobe's never winning another ring! 2 titles later the haters are still grasping at straws.

And if you were as cap savvy as you try to come off, you'd know the Lakers CAN'T 'blow up the team'. NBA contracts are guaranteed. You can't just cut guys or release them and get the salaries off your books. Doesn't work that way. When the Lakers signed Kobe and Pau to their extensions they committed to that being the core for the next 2-3 years and I'm fine with that. Do they need to try and make some roster changes and reload at some positions? Yes. But is that impossible? No. And in a year where the Mavs and Grizzlies might be your Western Conference Finalists, you sure sound silly making all these rock solid presumptions about what can and can't happen, and you can and can't win.

Why don't advanced statistics play at least a PART of these all-defensive team rankings.

NBA coach's are fucking idiots. I know it's not there job to go over all the advanced stats, but you think some of their staff would clue them in.

Rodeo Clown

All aboard! The Love train!
Now you can get #Twolves season tickets for as low as $1 per game
Now that's hilarious. But fuck you, Glen Taylor. You wouldn't have to sell season tickets for $40 if you gave a fuck about your team.

NBA All Defense team is always the "best offensive players/stars who play a little bit of D too". It's like the Gold Glove in baseball. If it were true, you'd see a bunch of defensive specialists like Tony Allen listed but that would get a bunch of "WTF?"'s from casual fans.
