kobe hasn't played defense since 2008.
stupid writers think playing safety constitutes the definition of good defense.
smh

if you're a good free safety then that's not a problem. players can impact how an offensive passes around because of that

but the problem is he wasn't that great at that

some guys are better help defenders than they are man. i don't know what this award is for

Guys, I played basketball last night. First time since January 2011 when I blew out my ankle that I had to have surgically repaired. It felt good to get out there, but I couldn't just or explode at all. I think I'm a good month away from that, but at least I'm through my physical therapy onto the court in some capacity.

Gonna cross up the LA peeps this June when I come down for E3. Get a gym, you posers.

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? It seems so scary to have an injury like that.

so tell me what I should expect from Henson, Barnes & Marshall in the pros.

because the only young guy we really have doing anything is Lawson.

and i don't see much out of this trio to indicate they'll even be that good.

had an ankle injury last december playing basketball.
this one guy and myself went up for a rebound
and i end up landing on his foot and rolling my ankles.
needless to say, it was painful and i couldn't able to walk for a couple of weeks.
ankle area was purple and swollen as well.
its march now and im still going through physical therapy.
first time i actually played full court bball earlier this week and it felt fine.
i just needed to stretch before and after.
it still tends to get stiff and at this point after 3 months, i have about 90% full range motion.
maybe a month more til its 100%

Henson will probably be like Ekpe Udoh I think which is pretty decent.

You can't teach height or that kind of wingspan.

But you can teach him how to eat, someone pass that boy a plate!

Henson's the one I'm most worried about. He's not even as good as Ed Davis or Brandan Wright were, and it's not like they're flourishing in the league...

I have zero confidence in any of them.

Henson is a twig
Marshall reminds me of Marcus Williams
Zeller? lol

Henson has potential. He's really comfortable in the offensive post and defending in face-up and pick'n'roll situations. Pretty good rebounder. Actually knows how to use his length. Decent mid-range jumper. He could fit in easily with a lot of teams in the NBA if he's used right. He's probably gonna have a lot of problems with bigger SFs/PFs/Cs though, unless he bulks up.

Barnes is decent/above average at a lot of things you'd expect from a SF, but not really great at anything. Catch-and-shooting, off-the-dribble shooting, penetration, moving without the ball, and man-to-man defense he's all pretty good at. Can't really pass or rebound very well for his size. I feel like his ceiling is Luol Deng.

Kendall Marshall I never paid too much attention to, but I think he'll definitely be an effective backup PG in the NBA.

Marshall is a billion times more dedicated to the game than Laptop.

If he washes out of the league it'll be because he wasnt good enough. But I don't think that's the case.

Kobe not getting all NBA First Team is lulz. Moving around PG's to give it to them...really? smh

And yea Kobe shouldn't be all NBA first team defense. But you do realize its voted by coaches / assistants and not by media people right?

Here's the answer to why Kobe has been all NBA first team defense his whole career...it's the same reason Jordan would get the award in his second three peat...the award doesn't go to defensive specialists... historically - it goes to superstars who are capable of playing the best defense. No one doubts that someone like Bruce Bowen or Marcus Camby have been premier defenders their whole career...but coaches don't seem to penalize all star players for having to expend so much of their energy on the offensive side of the ball versus role players that just play defense.

A couple of Kobe's recent all nba first team defense selections are a little questionable...but his ability to go in for steals or blocks has gone down drastically because of all the injuries to his hand. You stick your hand in to get a steal or strip the ball with a fractured finger or messed up wrist...you're probably gonna jam it on plenty of occasions.

The voting decision boils down to this (it seems to me)...Kobe would be a better offensive option against everyone in the league...than everyone would be if they were defended by Kobe. The moment that's no longer true...he doesn't deserve the award. Like the last 2 years.

Honestly tho, if Stern pulls a Stern and freezes the envelope, I doubt you guys would take Barnes over MGK.

And like you said..this isn't a one year tank job, right?

Its a two year job at least.

And I'd take Sully over MKG...

Not feeling particularly great about tonight's game.

Who knows which "Heat" will show up at this point. Tired of their half assed efforts. I wouldn't mind in the beginning of the season, but we are getting close to prime time..

If they give another excuse like "we aren't the most athletic team out there" and "we aren't the youngest team" again, I'm going to drive down to Miami and punch Lebron+Spo in the face.
