If you can't take feedback, put me on ignore or something. Those screenshots were not good or interesting-looking whatsoever.

I do welcome feedback and constructive criticism.

"Eesh."

"Those screenshots were not good or interesting-looking whatsoever."

This is the quality of your feedback?
Feels to me like you are attempting to cause stress through derogatory and subjective comments.

Do you even shoot bro?
Huh?

Do you shoot and post screenshots yourself?

I do not want to place someone on ignore who is making negative comments about my work.
I would prefer it if you could explain why you felt the need for such a vituperative outburst.

The feedback quality was higher than those Witcher 3 closeups warranted.
Those textures weren't meant to be seen that close, everyone can see it, regardless of "if they shoot, bro."

Come on now.

Thanks, mate!

I downsampled the second one to 1080p because I find the LoD quality in the distance too low when looking at it at 100% scale. The low quality LoD of the first one is concealed by the DoF (which was managed by the game itself; don't know how to apply it on my own without using ReShade that messes up my interface)

GR looks ok. better than witcher 3. that overblown lighting is still in every anvil engine game tho. WHY

Well I mean... it should, right? Being a more recent game and all. What surprises me is that it's Anvil but the LOD isn't completely awful. But I guess that comes at the cost of really shitty performance.

It's weird that you're singling him out when all he really did was agree with the perfectly fine feedback in the post above his.

Yeah, i was just stating it as a confirmation. The "why" was wrt the oveblown lighting. I saw pcgh benchmarks and yes perf is low. Will be interesting to see where ps4 sits and if higher settings actually provide good visual return for the steep performance

Welp, time to replay Alien Isolation. I'd kind of forgotten how gorgeous it is when at a high resolution, cleaning up all the messy aliasing. Ooof, so pretty.

Edit: Oh god and that TAA mod, I forgot about that. Yup, definitely time to replay.

That was me agreeing with someone who did explain it...

No, this was just me being honest. I honestly didn't think it was a controversial opinion. Those textures that up close do not look good, and those faces aren't interesting or aesthetically pleasant to look at.

Do you shoot and post screenshots yourself?
Not in this thread, not usually (I posted some shots of a retro-looking game before but that's it). My PC isn't strong enough to take fancy shots. But what's your point? Do you never comment on movies, games, etc. without making movies and games yourself?

I do not want to place someone on ignore who is making negative comments about my work.

You are really overreacting. Someone said a few of your screenshots suck and you're taking it personally. Chill, lol

I think he simply meant that there are more ways to say you didn't like the shots than to state it like you're looking at a pile of dog shite. The texture work wasn't that stellar, I think we can all agree on that, but this thread shouldn't be one where you get bashed to pieces simply because you post your work. The more hostile this thread will become, the less people will post here.

There have been a couple of times here where pixelated shots from old games at a low res with full HUD were cheered at by you as 'great' while they were to me a complete eyesore. I didn't state that they were because what's the point? Will the poster learn anything from "Hey bud, that shot is a complete eyesore"? no. That you liked them, that's fine, everyone should like what they please, the thing is: you don't have to bash people's work to the ground if you don't like that work. Scroll and move on. So yeah, 'chill', sorry but that means for you too.

Don't confuse snark and negative crap as 'criticism'. It's not. "Your stuff sucks" hasn't taught anyone anything other than 'there aren't nice people there'. I don't mean to be all positive, on the contrary, but if you want to comment on shots, do it with constructive criticism so there's something to learn from it. There's already enough negative crap in the world.

Great shots! Haven't seen this side of the game in shots yet. I should re-add it to my list of games to play.

I liked your close-up. Very expressive. Don't let them discourage you.

It bothers me that all these Alien screenshots are great but they're missing the floor reflection shader which really sells the overall scene.

I first played the game on PS4, only a bit into PC version. Anyone know if this shader is missing from the PC version or is this something to do with your screenshot tool.

maybe it's just an environment map on PS4?

The reflection settings can be modified on PC via the config file to allow for these super shiny reflections. The default on PC are in line with the PS4's reflections.

Thanks Frans, yeah I think everyone should play MGS V. Absolutely brilliant so far and those shots are all in-game. I was really enjoying playing it in 5710 x 1080 because it was so cinematic but for screenshots I decided to go with my regular format.

Same old story on here regarding criticism of shots..I like DUBL's portraits because I like to see character faces and the shots were quoted so no body is forcing me to blow them up to their full size. Even if they were full size I'd simply resize using my scroll button on the mouse..no big deal.

Yeah I think the PS4 version in the video is actually a lower-quality reflection using a low res single color cubemap, the shot posted here is fully reflection (Who cleaned those floors can come clean my floor any day!) which technically is more impressive but I have to agree with you, the one in the video looks better, more natural.

The poster increased the resolution of the reflections by a lot. It's one of the usual "graphics upgrades" that you'll find in thousands of sites, but I personally think it looks really shitty. The internet as a collective seems to have no clue of what looks good or bad, and automatically thinks that bigger numbers = better.

A reflection that's blurred appropriately for the surface it's displayed on is far more impressive and immersive than a pin-sharp, pixellated reflection. I really hate those graphics tweaks that people do in Alien: Isolation.

Gonna agree with all of you, and say that the PS4 video does look more natural, and pleasing to the eye. However,i didn't increase any of the reflection settings myself, just downloaded "Matti Hietanen's camera tool" which comes with some of the visual changes in the game. With that said, i personally think it looks nice as i like shiny things lol...but like i said before, it does look more immersive and true to the movie as portrayed in the video above! In the end, it's different strokes for different folks!

[...]pin-sharp[...]
Reminds me of the shadow quality couple of years ago when every shadow had to be crisp and crystal sharp. I also remember discussions on The Last of Us that had 'improved' shadows when playing at 30 fps (basically more and unrealistic crisp). When I'm outside in real life I don't see any sharp shadows caused by sunlight, especially not cast from foliage. When you're in a cellar with a flashlight and no other light sources bouncing of surfaces and giving your indirect light, yep, there are those sharp edges of shadow. In Crysis, Risen and other older games I never set shadows on ultra.

Great shot, love the scale of the mountains.
Thanks! I'm already beyond this point since I'm actually playing Blood and Wine. I missed some items though, so I wanted to get them, got to this lake and took advantage of Nvidia's Ansel that wasn't available back then. Every game should have this features. More convenient and it could save these Free Cam and Cheat Engine coders a lot time.

For shadows, to get them correctly blurry, you need to render to a really high-res buffer and then do expensive sampling on top of that to make the right parts blurry to the correct degree again.

It's why the really high-end shadow settings (e.g. PCSS, or even more accurate HFTS) are often incredibly expensive.
