"That's our show. Not a lot of people watched it, but the joke's on you, because we got paid anyway."
Hilarious finale. The jarring edit after Liz's joke about cable, Jenna's reaction to LAX, Tracy claiming to have released his snakes, Grizz and Hers, Pete faking his death, Kenneth being immortal: all cracked me up. Do wish there would have been a few more guest stars, Conan was awkwardly perfect though.
I will say though: it didn't hit me emotionally a ton. I did really love the Jack and Liz goodbye (along with the brilliant dishwasher idea), and Liz saying goodbye to Tracy. However nothing about it felt mega-final, which is fine because that's the point. That this crazy cartoon world never dies, that TV and stories in general are always popping up to allow us to laugh at how messed up everything is. So I honestly don't feel like I've lost that much. The show was so dense and assured in the depictions of its characters that the way the ending worked didn't make me think I was losing anything, just seeing the last episode after which I can go back and join the world at anytime.
Dunno where I'm going with this. And this seems critical of the finale. I guess what I'm trying to say is how I've felt about 30 Rock all along: its confidence and consistency never made me feel like I was on a metaphorical roller-coaster ride, so I don't feel a final drop and a slowing down right now. I just feel like something immortal was and is around.
