New episode tonight:
My Whole Life is Thunder

Jenna's envy pushes Liz over the edge; Jack forms a plan to avoid disappointing his mother (Elaine Stritch); Tracy tries to cheer up Kenneth.

That's 14 in demon years. Hahahaha.

Did anyone else notice that the convo Jack and Coleen were having in his apartment was clearly shot at two different times and that both actors were not there simultaneously? I wonder why.

Elaine Stritch's shooting schedule is probably narrower and more rigid than even Baldwin's.

haha Liz's reaction to Jenna talking about Chris. "awwwwwuuhhg." so great, as was the entire episode. though I do still feel that Jenna/Liz focused episodes are somehow weaker by default.

that lighting tech was hilarious.

it's moving too fast...6 years nothing happened in any of the female characters relationships and now they are married within 2 episodes... you can really see them rushing to the end...still love this show and don't want it to end :(

I think plenty happened with Jenna through the years, showing over time that she actually preferred a monogamous relationship (with a way weird dude and involving sex rituals but still) to the flightier relationships her desired mega-celebrity would necessitate.

Liz's relationships have been kind of same-y. In the way they fall apart and last, at least, several of her boyfriends have been funny in different ways. But I don't think her not really growing a ton in that area is a problem because her want for a family has been pretty well plotted, so just giving her another fitting suitor works. Especially when that suitor is one of the best fits for her shown in the show and is actually pretty funny. I think it works.

I do get what you mean about the show being static and then just making changes. And hell last night's episode showed that even those changes won't alter the status quo. But that's sort of the point. Kenneth even talks about this in the episode from Thursday, that TV shows can't change. That's a restrictive statement because I think they can change, but different shows have different ranges in which they can work. 30 Rock, a pure joke machine, can't change much. Any huge shifts could throw off the balance, and that balance is needed to be spectacularly funny. So I'm fine with the show being static.

I'm not sure if I'm in the minority, but Paul has always been a bit too weird for me. I mean I know its supposed to be incredibly weird, but yeah... I don't know. Just too much for me. Great episode though. What a fantastic season for this show to end on. Leaving on a high note for sure.

I actually think they might be my favorite type of episode. Tina and Jane are two of the funniest women on any sitcom, ever, and I just love their relationship.

I thought this episode was hilarious — maybe the best of the season. The other Liz Lemon :lol

Tina is definitely one of my favorite people flat-out. Goddamn idol right there.
I've never really gotten Jenna. Not to the degree where I despise the character like you might see in other shows, but through these seven seasons of 30 Rock, a far lower percentage of Jenna jokes have landed with me than those from any other character. So that's what it really boils down to: I don't think the character is as funny. She's not not funny. Simply noticeably less funny than everyone else on the roster.

New episode tonight!
Game Over

Jack asks Devin Banks (Will Arnett) to help him discredit Kaylie Hooper (Chloë Moretz), Jack's teenage nemesis and KableTown's future CEO; Liz considers her options as she tries to become a mother; Tracy directs Octavia Spencer in his movie.

Also, here's a list of nine guest stars that will appear in the home stretch.

Excited for the final stretch.

And since we were talking about characters, do people generally like Tracy? He's my least favorite character and I generally hate him. He's not really too funny to me either, he's far too buffoonish.

Anyone else feel the main let down in the later seasons is Liz Lemon? I feel she's just trying to hard these days.

Back when the show started she was just been herself, and making fun of that. Now she's making herself as crazy as possible and then trying to pass that off as the humor.

I want sane/real world Liz back.

Here's an actual quote from the recent season, she says to Pete in front of a good number of the crew:

"My bunions are out of control, the podiatrist said the only possible explanation is that one of my ancestors mated with a dinosaur"

... it's just trying to hard. The original Liz at least had some shame, she wouldn't just blurt out a personal medical condition to her co-workers. And the doctor wouldn't tell her she was related to a dinosaur.

It's just trying to hard and as a result it's killing the humor for me. It's like she's taken a page out of Tracy Morgan's comedy, only she doesn't have the background to try to back it up.

Tracy can be a little hit or miss for me, but when it works it's pure gold.

I disagree that Liz is a letdown in the later seasons. That particular scene wasn't very funny to me, but in general Fey is delivering a more confident performance these days and I find the writing for her is better.

On a scale of bear hunting to hunting bears....

Great episode. I didn't expect Mullaly, but Armett and Moretz were as fantastic as always.

you speak so well
Another excellent episode tonight. All the guest stars were fantastic - Octavia Spencer as a female Tracy was just incredible (Mizz and Dot Gov :lol) and it doesn't hurt that Arnett, Moretz and Buscemi are some of my favorite guest characters in the show. The worst part about this episode was that it seems that it's the last we're going to see of Dr. Spaceman. At least Archer starts up again next week to get my Chris Parnell fill!

I say this every week but I'm going to miss the hell out of this show when it's done in a couple of weeks.

I loled when Tracy said "Octavia, good you're black" or something like that. Tracy has his moments for me.

Tracy has all sorts of moments...

"Oh, no! Did a Korean person die?"
"This is untoward! This is not toward!"
"Live every week like it's Shark Week."
"What is this, Horseville? Because I’m surrounded by naysayers. Wordplay!"
"Affirmative action was designed to keep women and minorities in competition with each other to distract us while white dudes inject AIDS into our chicken nuggets."
"I got something on my mind grapes I need to talk to you about."
"Tell her that you want your privates and her privates to do a high-five."
"Stop eating people’s old French fries, pigeon! Have some self respect! Don’t you know you can fly?"
"I can't read! I sign my name with an X! I once tried to make mashed potatoes with laundry detergent! I think I voted for Nader! NADER!"
"Why don’t Catholics eat meat on Fridays? I’ll tell you why: It’s because the Pope owns Long John Silver’s."
"If you get rich off this stuff, just take care of my family. I don't want my kids to have to go to college."
"Where are the french fries I did not ask for? You guys need to anticipate me!"
"I do not want to disappoint our Japanese public, especially Godzilla. Hahaha! I’m just kidding, I know he doesn't care what humans do."
"I want to hold a mirror up to society and then win world record for biggest mirror."
"I’m whipped! Angie got me up at 7:30 today. Did you know that in the morning, they have food, TV, almost everything? It’s pretty good."

Yeah well he's my least favorite character, so most of those annoy me usually :p
