63% of Gen Z Would Rather Play Video Games Than Watch a Movie

I'd watch more movies if I knew which ones were good ahead of time. I don't follow movies and I'm not interested enough (way more interested in games!) to do any research.

The last movie I really loved was Shin Godzilla. I saw Minus One and while I liked it, it didn't hit like Shi did.

I can relate, most modern movies and TV shows suck. Except for maybe 4-5 of them a year these days I mostly watch movies/TV in a social context.
If I want an interesting story I can get better ones in books.
If I want something more action based, games have IMO completely outclassed movies in every way.

Movies still have beter writing than games.

Dramas do.

But I'd argue the average AAA game these days has a better story and characters than the average big blockbuster movie.
I might have issues with the story in games like GOW Ragnarok, FFXVI, Hogwarts Legacy or Jedi Survivor, but when you put them up against modern SW movies, MCU crap, Fast and Furious, the Fantastic Beast movies (specially 2 and 3) , Avatar 2 and most other stuff that tops the box office charts these days I'd argue games have nothing to envy anymore.

Non godzilla movies do exist...

What time is it?
57 years old here and I would much rather play a video game than watch the crap Hollywood has produced in the last many years

Not even sure last time I remember seeing a movie that I walked out of the theater and thought "wow, great movie" and my wife and I go often because she loves the theater experience especially IMax

Watch more Korean movies. They've saved my dwindling interest in movies.

Can’t really blame them. Sure modern gaming isn’t as good as it used to be and has plenty of issues, but imo games are still definitely a notch above most modern movies especially from Hollywood where they have literally zero creativity left. Also, one form of entertainment has interactivity and the other doesn’t so maybe they feel more immersed and involved as well with video games perhaps?

They don't want to work either.
the fact that they even have the option to not work shows how good we all have it...

Yet are the same creeps who say "stop slut shaming" when you call a ho for being a ho. Or think only fans is empowering or porn is healthy.

It's so weird as the same weirdos are against sexy game characters or nudity in movies... Wtf happened. We had so much cool entertainment until about 2014/2015 or so and it all stated going to shit little by little.

Some good movies and games do creep through though. I just seen bettlejuice 2 and thought it was good, no woke shit there and not a remake but a legit sequel. Astrobot was amazing but a Japanese game. The western studios are all infected with cultists.

EDMIX

Writes a lot, says very little
98% won't even read a book.

This.

It might have to do with attention span then anything else, people need to consider, it did say "Gen Z", we are talking about a generation that is amongst the most bombarded with marketing, ads and social media in general then any generation in human history

Not shocked they would not being into long form content tbh

So gaming like Fortnite or something offers that instant gratification type thing

Yeah no, the people in Hollywood know how to set up a scene (acting, framing the camera, lighting) while most cutscenes in videogames are like, an ugly character model with wooden face says a bunch of verbal exposition (with mediocre voice acting) while the camera is completely static.

Movie industry is dying, or already dead. To much focus on comic base characters, bad remakes, and worse they impose, promote, and even force to your throat twisted woke agenda especially containing, twisted gender ideology.

Only if the games are more open ended, like non linear stories, multiple endings, side quest with choice and consequences and a big open world to explore, if it's a strictly linear game with very little to explore and few side quests, then I would rather go watch a movie. Really pointless to play those at all when you won't change any of the outcome of the game anyway.

As someone who is half millennial/half gen Z, yeah, I vastly prefer games over tv series or movies. The only thing I like more, is reading books. Also, games nowdays, have better story, characters and plot in general when compared to movies. Even acting (also count voice acting in this) is generally better in games. Movies suck, and modern theatre experience sucks even more. Not to mention how costly movies are. A movie ticket is around 10-15 dollars for a 2 hr film(not including popcorn or drinks) while I just bought astrobot for 36usd, which is a 20hr game.

What kind of games and in what conditions though?
I don't think this has to do with the quality of movies like many people here say, but more with how young people these days consume things. It's... really weird.

My nephew for example won't ever do just one thing. When he plays a game, he also watch youtube or tv shows somehow at the same time, and vice versa. A lot of the younger people these days really struggle to just stay focus on a single task, and that's why most of them don't watch movies at all. When they watch TV show they even randomly skip certain parts just so it goes faster.

This is merely my case but I legitimately do not give a shit about film anymore. Games not only look just as good for the most part unless it's an AAA Hollywood movie, but the stories themselves have somewhat leapfrogged what they can offer to me as well.

Lot of people in here saying no New movies and games coming out. How many games and movies does one need ?

There are 10 games a year atleast that are extremely good. Same with movies i would imagine. Atleast 1-2 a year that i wanna watch and turn out great.

Dont reduce your FOV to Hollywood and AAA. Not Sure about movies but gaming has never had more great games. Many Indie games are great and i suspect the same with movies. I did build a home theatre and watch movies in there but havent Gotten around to the new stuff. To many old goldies to rewatch. Oppenheimer Was pretty good. I hear Civil war is great, is on my list as well.
