80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

Only track I'm not totally sold on is Raw Power The SNES like noises are too prominent in the mix in some parts for me, they take me out of the music instead of being part of it. The track is close to being there, it's just sort of like two audio tracks competing when I listen. If that makes any sense.

i hear ya. its more like c64 sounds i say. it makes the track sound overstuffed, or competing like you said. overall still awesome. future club right after is my jam

I'll just go ahead and say it. Dangerous Days is good but it's nowhere near as good as I Am The Night. Also, Mega Drive's 198XAD is a much better album imo. It's pretty great.

Dangerous Days isn't so all over the place musically, so it flows together better than I Am The Night, imo.

My initial impressions are that the record features some of Perturbator's best ever tracks, but also that he is repeating himself at times. A few of the sonorities don't sound as fresh as they used to. But then again I get that from most synthwave artists with a large output. I want to say Lazerhawk has been great at reinventing his creative voice but he only has 3 albums out that I know of, so that might not be a fair comparison.

Don't want to sound like I'm not enjoying Dangerous Days though. There's a lot to love there and I look forward to listening to it more, especially on a pumped up sound system as opposed to headphones.

Woah, I didn't even know about that. I only have their bandcamp stuff, gonna have to pick up 198XAD.

I disagree. I think that's what makes I Am The Night special. It's a great album. Dangerous days, while more cohesive in sound, also feels a bit repetitive.

Do it! It's amazing.

Ha, just bought pretty much his entire catalogue off of bandcamp:

- 198XAD
- Futurescape
- REWIND
- Hardwired

Also - Miuit is the hidden gem on the Perturbator album. You kinda glance over it the first few times because it's pretty low-tempo, but it's goddamn amazing.

Well obviously there's Vangelis' iconic Blade Runner score
Tangerine Dream's scores for The Keep and Legend
Brad Fiedel's Terminator score
On the quirkier side of things there's the soundtrack for Miami Connection.

So, after a few days listening to Dangerous Days I feel I am the Night is a bit better. The songs are a bit more varied and imo flow better. DD is still amazing however and "Humans are such easy prey" is my favourite track. Also I'm in love with Isabela Goloversic's voice.

Perturbator interview on Vice:
http://noisey.vice.com/en_au/blog/riding-the-cyber-doom-synthwave-with-perturbator

I suspect my Dangerous Days order (everything) came in the mail and sitting at the parcel and either: 1) my parcel key is broken/wrong one or 2) someone took my package :(

It's just like he says, it's some kind of counterculture in response to the modern climate of dance music. In the 1980's electronic music was made primarily by classically trained musicians getting into synthesizers, hence the refined songwriting and melodic focus. Today electronic music has been completely democratized so anyone with a computer can start making it, and so we have a new generation of musicians who exist in this insular atmosphere where they care more about things like drops, kicks, plucks etc. rather than interesting melodies and harmonies.

He is also right about the genre becoming extremly saturated lately so it's becoming harder to find stuff worth listening to. I think it was an underground movement up until the point where the movie Drive really propelled it into the mainstream. And this has been pushed further by games like Blood Dragon and of course Hotline Miami which was directly inspired by Drive and which Pertubator made music for.

I am glad that it has existed for a bunch of years i never knew it and rediscovered my love for some dark electronic music from the 80's. I feel likely to listen to this then other music these days.

I listen to techno from time to time but even with that i do not feel anything from the music that is coming out today. A lot of famous dj's who i listen to are now doing minimal techno. Believe me it fucking sucks. Sure other can like it but it has not feeling to it at least to me.

I know your getting older and music is always changing same with taste. But to me when playing those 2 games alone was craving back to 80's music but also from Perturbator,Powe Glove for example. Also getting back to the movie's. Yes it could be nostalgia and i think it is. But to me i feel good about it.

True i guess, but i for one welcome it. It's the same with any genre really. There's good heavy metal and there's a lot of really shitty unoriginal heavy metal :D

Atleast we have a lot to listen to and the good ones will stay on the surface. For help, you can check out the some of the ones i've found worth buying as i need to play the tracks in our club: https://bandcamp.com/noisepurge

Bought Perturbator his new album and last album. Paid 15 dollars in total and he is such a amazing music artist.

good man :)

I know what you mean. The minimal movement went on from being a cute little curiosity to swallowing the whole scene and making all your previous favorites conform. I think there's more worthwhile Techno coming out of East Europe these days.

There are dj's who still do the napoli techno if you can call it that way. That one is my favorite techno because it's uplifting and has huge drive behind it also never stops one moment like Perturbator says in his interview a lot is lost in music today sounds the same and it's all cash grabbing instead of making great music. But i am enjoying this very mutch. When listening to it seeing all those stuff from the 80's in my head.

Just checked out his soundcloud, and he released a new song called,"The Arena" about 1 day ago. Im on mobile but heres a link, http://m.soundcloud.com/waveshaper-2/the-arena

Ah thanks mate not sure how I missed that...wow awesome song too.

Anyone remember Electric Youth from the "A Real Hero" song on the Drive soundtrack?

They released a video for their debut album that comes out in September. The song is great and I really wanted to like the video as well but, eh you'll see: Electric Youth - Innocence (Official Video)
