I've been really enjoying the new Protector 101 album that just came out.

It's a little different in that it's not really pop or disco influenced at all. Very 80's post-apocalyptic. Some of these tracks wouldn't sound out of place in the first Fallout game. It's great.

I've been listening to this once since release, it's pretty amazing.

I thought about getting the casette, but then I realised that it's literally useless haha.

Yeah, I like it a lot. It almost sounds like a film score (which is probably what he was going for).

And I agree about the cassettes. A lot of these bandcamp labels seem to like offering them as a physical release, and they're pretty cool for sure, but they aren't really practical for me. Nothing to play them on at home and my car doesn't even have a tape deck.

I think it could be pretty cool to have a stack of casettes on display or something, but the 10 euro shipping costs were a bit too much for a random gimmick.

I agree on the soundtrack-ish feel of the album, given the track titles that's definately where he was going for and he nailed it. It's surprisingly low-key as well, a lot of ambient work with the occasional beat. Tracks like Back Alleys and Memories are godlike, the synth is amazing.

Waveshaper continues to release quality stuff.

The latest: Waveshaper - Breakdown (Instrumental)

Sounds amazing and those youtube comments xD

John Smith-Wesson is an ex-Marine hardened from the ashes of Gulf War 7. After returning home to find his wife and 2 daughters murdered by junkies John will go on a one-man-war path to seek revenge against Russian mafia KGB kung-fu master drug lords who spread the super drug known as Crackspeed all over John's hometown of BREAKDOWN, Illinois.

One man is a famed Special Forces veteran, surviving the war-torn jungles of Vietnam...only to be accused of the one murder he didn't commit!
The other is a broken down and recently divorced Wall Street banker with nothing to lose!
They thought they were just delivering a suitcase full of the purest form of coke the Big Apple has yet to encounter, but little did both men know that their package also contains the country's nuclear launch codes! With savage street gangs and the KGB at their heels...will this odd couple stand together and fight...or will they BREAKDOWN!?!

Gabe is an ex-wrestler turned cop. Viktor is a secret Kung Fu KGB agent. When a U.S. spy plane goes missing, all evidence points to Viktor. Following the trail to New York, the action heats up when they find the mayor is selling weapons to put crack on the street. With the whole city after them, East and West must join forces. They're not just taking a bite of the Big Apple, they're gonna ... BREAK DOWN!

Yeah this is 80's story plots one o one.

I hear le casette releases their debut album. I havent heard it yet but definitely gonna peep it. I loved "meet jimmy" one of my absolute favorites but that might be the perturbator influence.

So I've just been made aware of Tangerine Dream's Grand Theft Auto V The Cinematographic Score, which is a part of their material from the game before it was mixed with the other composers, which is basically a sequel to their Thief soundtrack. If you're a fan of that or have been listening to the originally released GTAV score, check this out asap. It's much more fleshed out than anything we've heard so far, even more so than the tracks people have ripped from the game directly.

Fjordson, if you knew about this and didn't tell me, we're gonna have a serious disagreement.

Pretty amazed that this thread is active, yet this has never been mentioned: our lord and savior Com Truise has a series of podcasts called Komputer Cast with around an hour each of pure delicious lofi retro synthy goodness. It's all snippets from his material, or from some other authors, it's absolutely fantastic, and there's SEVEN ABSOLUTELY FREE volumes available for download.

I really love Dance With The Dead's Out Of Body.

Most tracks on their album are too electric guitar-ish [I really hate that], but this track is amazing.

Cool cover art too, haha.

I'd say Glen Check qualifies. They're an Korean Indie band, but all their songs use english lyrics. Too many songs to choose from.

Guess "French Virgin Party + Bataille" would be a good start if you want to check their stuff out (warning lots of flashing lights just a heads up). Be sure to check the second song, very Anamanaguchii style like, but different. Every album they do has a different feel.

I actually want much more of that. Another genre that's near and dear to my heart much like Synthwave is AOR. Melodic rock with plenty of synth harmonies, with most of the groundwork for the genre laid out during the 80's. Still plenty of bands doing that type of music long after it went out of fashion. Sweden is a damn AOR powerhouse.
