Same. Glad I got
axe
before
knife
because I wouldn't be motivated to keep playing.

Hahaha, well, during the
knife ending, I thought it was Clover again that stabbed me to death. And was even more confused during the submarine ending... realized who it was during the safe ending though ><

I went
Knife/Axe/Safe/Sub/True

I simply couldn't wait after the two fake endings to not get any more plot. I mean, you kind of get more bits and pieces, but it doesn't mean anything until you Safe ending

Fun fact: I originally thought the safe ending was
An escape ending but without any question resolutions, like you escape the Nonary game but you don't get anything answered

How wrong I was

I also thought that!

Oh, and I was also wondering (True Ending spoilers)

Why exactly Santa had a bookmark on him at all. It seems a little extraneous. Did he know it would calm down Clover or something?

Haha, there are so many spoiler tags that I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. Time to get some more endings so I can actually read the thread.

I'm really happy to see this thread still alive with ongoing GAF support. Would it be correct to assume that sales have been stronger than expected?

Kudos on the thread subtitle as well. It should bring the few skeptical in here.

For some God-forsake reason, I'm doing with this what I did with Chrono Trigger; putting off finishing it for good (ie getting the best ending), despite having such a high opinion of it...how weird. It's like I want to figure out the exact way to get the best experience possible with it or something ridiculous like that.

Screw it, I'm forcing myself through it whenever I have an evening free this week >:| After which I'm going to zipline through all the spoilers both 999 threads :p

Cop-out answer:
June saw that giving Clover the bookmark would be the only way to keep her from going on a murderous rampage in the future, so she told Santa to bring it and give it to Junpei.

Or:
Perhaps that bookmark was left there from the original experiment and was already in the facility when June and Santa bought it. Santa at least claims that he found it lying in the room; if it was revealed in the true ending that he already had it, I don't recall. In this case, coming across it could have suddenly revived painful memories for Santa, causing him to toss it off to Junpei.

Oh right, I thought he had it on him the whole time. I don't remember since I got that the first time I played through and fast-forwarded past it every time since.

Can't post scan here of course ;)
Way ahead of you! Although replacing the sprites with 3D models was kind of a strange decision. I would have been more satisfied with them redrawn and colored better.

Yeah, do it!

In more selfish news, do you think you could you get your hands on some more hi-res concept art? I'm specifically after the sketches that were in the Silicona blog... :p

Oh, I hope there's a 999 artbook...

A 999 art book would be pretty sweet ;)

I'd totally buy a copy :D

The question is though, would you be appreciative of it? ;)
That I would! I'd buy a copy even if it doesn't work on my J360 just like my US copy of DeathSmiles. Although I do shake my fist in anger whenever I see my unopened LE box.

Here's some things you may want to do if you ever decide to run through the game again. Slight spoilers due to location, etc.

* Examine the ladder in the tutorial room (3rd class cabins) multiple times
* Select the "Funyarinpa" option when Lotus asks you about the painting, examine a lit candle in the same room as June (Door 4 - 2nd Class Cabins)
* Examine the knife in the freezer, or the oil in the kitchen ; Load the kitchen in "Memories of the Escape" and try to leave the freezer without taking the hunk of pork; continually examine the frozen chicken in the freezer (Door 4 - Kitchens)
* Check out the pipe in the study (near the library) (True Ending)
* Take the vase (both full and empty) to Snake in the 1st Class Cabins and examine it in his presence; check the lightswitch in the hallway, the showerhead and toilet paper in the bathroom, the bed while facing the piano, the dresser chair while facing the doorway multiple times (Door 5 - 1st Class Cabins)
* Check the chair multiple times while facing the fireplace, check the chandeliers a few times while behind the bar, examine the bottle on the bar multiple times, attempt to go back into the room once you've unlocked the way out (Door 5 - Casino)
* Continually examine the mannequin in the Lab (Door 8)
* Check the flights of stairs (Door 6 - Steam Engine Room)

That's all that springs to mind right now, but some of that lesser dialogue is killer stuff.

Thanks! I noticed a few of these things in my playthroughs, but others flew under my radar. I love when hilarious hidden gems are thrown into games like this.
The series of lame ladder jokes is priceless.

I'm ridiculously obsessed with this game, I swear

If I didn't have so much actual work I'd be on a second playthrough of the true ending just to experience it again

Speaking of multiple endings, I think I've only ever gotten one ending on Chrono Trigger despite maxing out the levels on all my characters AND owning the game since launch day.

I am actually

sorely tempted

to get the light novels and learn japanese in order to get the promised
reunion with everybody at the end, especially June and Junpei

I'm entering a mini-3D modelling competition where one had to make their own LBP Sackboy character -- and as I had just finished 999 at the time... Well I've come up with this:

L87_sackboys2_scaled.jpg

999 is just so fantastic... Kind of wish I could play it all over, without the knowledge of... well everything I learned playing it the first time.

(I also have a construction shot -- fun fact, the digital root of
[L87] = [9].

Great job! Just out of curiosity, was there something similar in the Japanese, or did you add these in?

Thanks!

There was a series of jokes, but they were a series of puns relating to how the Japanese word for
"ladder"
sounds like the Japanese word for
"bar-hopping" (as in, going from one bar to another, getting progressively more drunk).
Since that obviously wouldn't have made sense in English, I wrote a number of jokes of my own to fit the situation. One or two of them I found on the internet, but the rest I made up.

They're all terrible. Congratulations!

I have another translation question relating primarily to June:
I understand her name in Japanese is something like 'purple' or 'blue', I think? So was that "After June we won't see each other again" thing (the depressing, depressing thing) in the Epilogue after the credits, was that made from whole cloth, or did that have a basis in the original dialogue? Same question about the voodoo doll, I guess
