I like it. Sounds really, really dark compared to the original. Not a bad start to the CD.

is there anything by them you not like? :p

i didnt like it. the original has a feeling of innocence thats completely lost in this cover, not to mention he took out the original melody (actually i preffer when bands do their own take while doing covers), which doesnt really work for this song. the song isnt meant to be broody, its meant to be hopeful IMO.

yes, yes there is.

and i don't have high expectations for this cd. but if the whole thing is dark sounding and light like this, it will be a little better than i could have hoped.

hey, it could be worse...

My God, what made them think this sounded good? Worst cover I've heard in a long time.

If it needs to be said anymore : IT WAS RUSHED TO MEET A DEADLINE! They needed to have 3 albums out by this time.

So what? That doesn't mean it has to sound like pure vomit.

First of all it doesn't sound like pure vomit - it sounds relatively good considering what i expected. Second of all, time is always an issue, you can't do everything you want when theres a limited time. Especially since Maynard went back with Tool at the end of APC's tour. For all we know these can just be some scraps the band fooled around with while touring and decided to release to end the contract. It's not that bad at all, I enjoyed the cover quite a bit and I don't appreciate the mindless bitching saying this is one of the worst covers, blah blah blah, because it undoubtedly isn't.

How does any of that change the fact that to some, it doesn't sound good?

I'm just letting you understand the situation. It just seems like it's some people's personal agenda to bash everything APC.

I couldn't even tell you what an APC song outside of Three Libras and Judith sounds like. I have no agenda.

And I'll have you know, I liked both of those songs when they came out.

Seriously, that cover is really terrible. It completely bastardizes the original's sentiments, paradox, and maturity. Where Lennon sounds like an idealist, Maynard sounds like the guy from Twilight Zone.

From a musical standpoint, I find it very generic. The strings in the background remind me of the Godzilla soundtrack.

(I have zero agenda against APC. I didn't even know what Tool is until last year.)

Oh be quiet, weren't you the one who said Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes" (cover - which you didn't even know at the time) was the best song ever? Just because you began listening to the Beatles yesterday doesn't mean you have any music taste what so ever.

Why the hell do you care so much, deeb? Most of us think it sucks. Get over it.

I hate how people react to all covers - I never know what you people expect. This happens to be a band and song that I like so I'm going to get pissed. I think some of you just feel that because it's the godly John Lennon from the Beatles that no one else can touch it or interpret his work. Pichu is pissed too.

Wow, another song sung by modern, over produced bands put out by the major record labels that sounds like every other modern over produced bands put out by the major record labels if but for the fact that it covers Imagine.

I hate John Lennon.

I hate his music.

This cover is ridiculously bad. Horrendous. At least the original had a decent melody in the chorus.

just for the record....

this is exactly what i expected out of this thread, seriously. there can never, ever be a cover posted where 50 people here jump in and say OH MY GOD WORST SONG EVER JESUS GOD NOOOO A COVER. It's typical GA overreaction to everything. I mean if you don't like it, more power to you. I could give a shit. Those posts are fine. But the ridiculous "OMG WORST THING IVE EVER HEARD IN ALL MY MUSIC YEARS EVER" posts do get annoying. If this is the worst cover you've ever hear, you haven't heard very many covers.

But I figured might as well make a thread, as I know at least some people will enjoy it/will have liked to hear it =)

for the record, its not that i think the cover is bad either. Its pretty much just what i'd expect APC doing "Imagine" would sound like. Therein lies the problem of covering popular ass songs. Most of the time, the best covers are ones that are a little different and try to bring something new to the table, but when you try that with extremely popular songs like Imagine, its gonna cause a backlash of people saying 'OMG THEY ARE RUINING IT'. This is why i think its pointless. APC are a great band, they just shouldn't have bothered. "Imagine" is fine the way it is.

I appreciate you sharing it with the forum. I want to make that clear. There are those that will like it, and that's fine. I certainly don't think it's the worst cover ever; there are far worse out there.

But still, I hate it; it sounds horrible to me. Whatever, who cares. It's my opinion. It's not fact. Although I do like a great number of covers, this is just not one of them :)

oh yeah, i had no problem with your reply. it was mainly:

:lol :lol gimme a fucking break.

hahahha i agree. You really should listen to Atreyu's cover of Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" ...now that is definitely bringing something new to the song.

Its not terrible, but I just dont see why they bothered. There are many other songs that would have been much better to cover, why does everyone have to cover a 'hit'

Even though I love APC I thought that cover was pretty bad. In fact, I didn't even like APC's cover of The Nurse Who Loved Me. The original is far superior in both cases.

I love EGM
i like it, but i find it weird this is Maynard....maynard lead singer of tool singing about anti-war peace shit. I guess he really isn't angry anymore :)

It's pretty bland. Imagine deserves better (it should've been left alone, because no one will ever be able to top the original). :(

well theyre releasing an entire cd of covers to get out of their record contract...and all the song are political in some way. so i guess that's why they chose imagine? i dunno.

my most awaited cover is them doing Depeche Mode and Marvin Gaye. Those will be interesting :lol

and yes, bland is a word i would use for imagine. bland, but not awful.

and if anyone cares, here's the full tracklist:

The tracklist for the upcoming A Perfect Circle CD, eMOTIVe, due out November 2nd, has been posted here on Billboard.com. The compilation of 10 covers and two new songs shall include: Annihilation (Crucifix), Imagine (John Lennon), (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love And Understanding (Nick Lowe), Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums, What's Going On (Marvin Gaye), When The Levee Breaks (Memphis Minnie), Freedom Of Choice (Devo), People Are People (Depeche Mode), Passive, Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (Black Flag), Let's Have A War (Fear), and Fiddle And The Drum (Joni Mitchell).

Limp Bizkits - Behind blue eyes is 10000x better than that... and people goof on it.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Is this song trying to convince me that global peace and unity is the worst thing that could possibly happen to humanity?

The juxtaposition of the lyrics and the dark, moody music just does not work, at all. Unless this is some far out symbolism for the great divide between the grand dreams expressed in the lyrics and the violent, intolerant world we currently live in... well, it sucks either way.
