I think the ONLY thing I can conclude from hearing that Imagine cover is that its more gloomy, and less uplifting and inspirational sound implies that we are even further from what John Lennon originally wanted for the world.

is there anything by them you not like? :p

i didnt like it. the original has a feeling of innocence thats completely lost in this cover, not to mention he took out the original melody (actually i preffer when bands do their own take while doing covers), which doesnt really work for this song. the song isnt meant to be broody, its meant to be hopeful IMO.

I guess I'll use that age-old excuse and say that it's open to interpretation. I suppose it's gloomly, but that's just Maynard's differentiating the song to fit his style.

Its impossible to screw up Ashes to Ashes...
Though I must say.. Maynards voice is good for the song.

goddamit, Griese!
LMAO, the responses of the gameFAQS rock board to this cover:

Its a nice cover.

Holy crap, that's awesome.

Wow... It's beautiful.

Amazing. This cover might indeed hold Maynard at his best voice I have ever heard.

Wow. It's been awhile since my socks have been rocked like that. Nice cover.

Awesomenessssss

I like it, very very good. I have a new respect for Lennon and even more for Maynard.

I'm going to rate it.
APC version - 10/10
Original - 5/10

Awesome cover, however speaking in terms of ocvers....Tool's/Maynards best cover is No Quarter...I **** you not, that song is better than the original.
(second part of that is true)

ok, so we have G "we hate everything" A and Game "we love the shit out of everything" FAQS

That was pretty damn good. Sounds a lot better than the original. Hope they make a studio verison of it.

It's not bad. . .a studio version could sound pretty good, but it's not even in the same league as the original. The sparseness of the original complements the lyrics and vocal style of the song. It also has impeccable production, but I guess I can't rag on a live cover for not having that. The guitars definitely need to be taken down a notch. Maynard's delivery is surprisingly acceptable; I can't say that for many people that try to cover Bowie.

I know it was posted in the eMotive topic, but I'm sure not everyone who wanted to saw it. So if you were curious, here's the stream from their site:

I like it. Sounds really, really dark compared to the original. Not a bad start to the CD.

you probably won't like it. so have a great APC cover instead: http://193.109.142.18/~skwerl/apc/l...tland,+OR+13+Ashes+To+Ashes+(David+Bowie).mp3

Maynard has taken one of my most favorite songs, and made it into the most depressing thing I ever heard. I swear to god I want to kill myself when I hear it.

It was funny, one night here in NYC, on Krock, they were playing the song, and in the middle of it, they inserted a shotgun going off. It actually made me laugh, because it lightened the mood a little.

Now at least Korn's rendition of Another Brick in the Wall is something I can listen to, and I am not a korn fan.

Whoever said that Maynards cover of No Quarter is better than the original needs to be swiftly kicked in the spleen.

But its true. You have to admit it's a damn good cover.

well not really...yet
I like GnRs cover of Knocking On Heavens Door a hell of a lot more than any other version including Dylans

Just Axl Rose's screechy voice singing in the place of McCartney's.

That's the biggest reason why it's better than the original version. Paul is the herpes of the pop music world. . .depressingly forever.

Here's a new video of the song that probably won't get any play on the airwaves, but it helps make sense of what Maynard's interpretation of the song is. The only grand difference that I can think of is that the world's grown further apart since then.

Stop dodging rocks and listen to warren zevon's cover of it on "the wind" it rocks. the fact that he died as the album released gives it extra impact. ;_;

Seriously, this is a really bad version of Imagine. I did a better rendition in my car tapping on the steering wheel.

I can post it if you guys want.

The cover would be okay if the instrumentation did'nt sound so mediocre at the beginning.

Damn it, Jim, you're usually on-point with all of your opinions. What happened to you today?
