After a string of failures, Warner will focus on Hogwarts, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones and Batman

After admitting its video games business “is substantially underperforming its potential right now,” Warner Bros. has said it plans to double down on four key titles, namechecking Batman in particular.

So, what’s the plan? During a financial call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that on the games side of things, the company plans to double down on just four titles, and significantly reduce the number of video games it releases in the process.

Those games are Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC “in particular Batman,” Zaslav added.

I look forward to these IPs being ruined in the near future.

Seems obvious to put Monolith on Game of Thrones.
its crazy to me that they havent made anything since 2017.

these studios aside from netherrealms of course, have been using WB to run a fucking scam for almost a decade now. Suicide Squad took 9 years. Cyrstal Dynamics made Avengers in just 5. Gotham Knights took 9 years. And now these guys havent done shit since they released shadow of war in 2017.

WB needs to put a 3 year cap on dev cycles. Make sure game is done by the end of year 2 and polish up the last year. No more delays. No more 2-3 years in pre-production. Get to fucking work you lazy bums.

Can’t wait to play as Brenda Wayne, the first female Batperson of color. Preorder the deluxe edition to get the exclusive rainbow pride batsuit!

I legit forgot this happened until I read your post lol

YESSSSS New Batman game confirmed. About fucking time. I can’t believe I’m rooting for the corporate overlord but goddamn wb games this past DECADE has been a disgrace. An embarrassment. Time to get them back on track

All they have to do to make Mortal Kombat good again is port MK9. Literally all they have to do.
I couldn’t agree more.
MK9 was amazing, and hasn’t been matched yet by subsequent releases.
It always makes me happy to see people praising 9. It was my favorite MK ever. It just felt SO good in SO many ways. Then each iteration just declined afterward for me. I really don't understand how they didn't go upward rather than downward.

I don't know what to make of Batman coming back, honestly, I don't know what to make of anything. Even when they contributed to amazing games, their greed showed more and more with time. They deserved all these failures.

I want to be excited about future possibilities, but I'd rather just wait and see how they pan out.

They own the IP rights for several of the largest US arcade game makers from the 1970s to the 1990s, including Midway, Williams, Atari Games, Sente, and more. I suppose they'll continue to sit on these properties and do virtually nothing with them, as it's been for the last 15 years.

If they have no interest in reviving those old games, then it's high time they sold them off. Perhaps Atari (separate from the aforementioned Atari Games) could do something with those IPs. They've clearly demonstrated interest in catering to the retro game community in recent years. It would also serve to reunify the two Atari brands that were split off from each other 40 years ago.

Game of thrones. Really? Do people still even like that? Both shows started off good but turned shit. GRRM can’t even bother to finish the books. Why would anyone bother playing games ?

Give me all the HP games! I know we’re getting HL2 but I hope we get new games based on the books as the TV show releases.

The only good mainline HP games were Philosopher’s Stone, chamber of secrets, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. the latter 2 only really because of the more open map design. I still regularly play PS + CoS on PS1/2.

Batman has been done and done too many times already. Don't really need another Hogwarts or a GOT (not that much interest in it these days). And there has been 12 (at least)... MK games......enough already.

It peaked with 9. It's only gone downhill with the new direction ever since. After 9 I always thought they could only go up from there using MK9 as a baseline but nope not at all. MK9 really was too perfect.

Simple start to make mad bucks with the OG MK fans and introduce today's fans to it's roots......give us a collection of the 1st 4 arcade MK games. I can't believe it hasn't already happened honestly.

Can they stop turning Mortal Kombat into a pseudo live service? That would be a good start. I’m out on modern MK if so many features are locked behind online.

Hope they go back to the basics and make some good old single player games. That’s what I want for my money.

Wonder Woman seems like another misfire waiting to happen and that’s a shame because I adore Monolith. Crazy to think their project after that won’t hit until 2030… yikes.

Is that the fault of the devs or WB themselves?

Don’t celebrate this. This is the same band of cretins responsible for recent output. This kind of news is meant to appease shareholders, not signal a change in product direction or development.

Batman GaaS incoming.

Bring back Scribblenauts! It’s probably the best use case ever for utilizing AI in game development.

Means little coming from them when they had this massive selling game (Hogwarts) and decided to go full retard and bet on GASS trash like Suicide Squad: Kill The Heteronormativity 🤣

I'll echo this. Folks who aren't aware of the state of MK and are asking for a new Injustice will be shocked when it comes out and is nothing more than a series of menus begging for more money disguised as a $70 game.

And yeah, get ready for your open world GaaS Batman. They already tried to do it with Gotham Knights, so that's what it'll be.

I'd love to see a new Gauntlet that follows up what they had going in Legends and Dark Legacy. Or at the very least, just push out an HD port.

Seems like the IP could be used to make a Diablo competitor but I guess they don't have the interest or vision for it

So "an ordinary person using bat and make him inferior to batman and other DC characters" was a bad idea? This isn't the end for wb, I knew they could make something great again.

I'd love someone to take the mantle that Housemarque used to wear. Loved all their old games.

Was sad when they had to abandon the arcade segment. But a look at the steam arcade charts shows it's not a popular genre.

Honestly I think a new studio led by Harry Krueger would be great if they could get a gamepass deal to work on the old school stuff.

It's perfect place to release as not mainstream, but would fill a nice, and they could work on a quick cadence cycle.
