AG Yates has been relieved of her position by Trump administration

The timing is all just so...strange. What I don't understand is why the Trump administration would do this with Jeff Sessions' final confirmation hearing tomorrow? If they're essentially branding Yates as a traitor and somebody who is politicizing an office that shouldn't be swayed by politics, they should know that Democrats in the Senate will pound Sessions on being a political pawn.

Won't matter, he'll be walked in by the GOP.

The president can fire a AG... whatever, but holy shit at that press release! He's going to build some bad blood with the justice department with that shit.

I'm starting to think that the only way Trump is leaving the White House is in a body bag.

Over the weekend, a bunch of us—many of which who started the night as strangers—debated over and agreed with this sentiment. Most of us wouldn't be devastated.

I can't fucking believe a statement from the White House says that Yates "betrayed the Department of Justice".
"BETRAYED".
This is straight out fascism. I am staggered that they actually used that word. They aren't even trying to hide it, this sets a very dangerous precedent. It's considered "betrayal" to not blindly agree with everything the president

So are her actions for nothing then?

It's going to add a wrinkle to the Sessions confirmation hearing. Will he follow the law, or just toadie up to Trump?

Hopefully enough members of congress remember their spines long enough to make that point loud and clear.

Also she was the only person capable of approving international warrants so they can't do that until the congress approves someone.

It's quite likely that the press release is his message to the Justice Department. IE, "You're in my way, and you're next."

Yep, we elected a Fascist, and so many people said it was hyperbole before the election.

This isn't surprising and legally many questioned her statements

She was basically resigning when she made that political statement

Why am I not surprised you don't see the problem with this or the statement? lol

President Trump did not call Acting Attorney General Sally Yates to fire her. She was told by hand-delivered letter.

So what shade of red will Sean Spicers eyes be when he has to tackle this issue

He'll have blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his... wherever.

She made Trump mad, so she had to go. Made an example of her, see, for the others that are still around. Do what I say or you're fired.

We've only just begun...

Honestly is this craziest start to a presidency ever? I mean besides VP's taking over after the death of a president.

Republicans are so incompatible with progress that they have literally chosen to upend the government for the party

A government with one Republican in power is a failed government.

Again this hasn't been done since Nixon and they could have just waited until tomorrow. Yea I'm sure she expected it. It's still shows that Trump and his admin has no regard of the law and only want an AG that will agree with him, and not the constiution.

This should scare everyone.

It's not surprising, but it's fascist in nature regardless. The real horrifying thing afterward is the press release. That shit is straight out of North Korea level propaganda. Just lacked labeling her a pedophile to discredit her character and morals.

Back in the day this would be the grounds for civil war or another one of them there independence wars. I guess America ain't worth actually fighting over anymore.

(contd) The hand was her husbands and it was stuck to the end of a quivering arrow

Well, at least Donald is still the easiest man in the world to bait. She held up a great big "MAKE ME A MARTYR" sign and he immediately obliged.

Being let go was expected, he'd look weak if he didn't. Much respect to Yates, who can now leave with her dignity in tact. smh at official White House statements that read like shitty internet comments. What an embarrassment this administration is going to be.

His cult will eat shit like this up, and I can only imagine it gets more unhinged and authoritarian from here. I have to believe that a perpetually vicious, nasty and hyperpartisan White House is a losing strategy in the long term. The early disapproval and public unrest gives me hope and the alternative is too depressing.
