In a game oozing with sexual themes Druckmann didn’t even have courage to show some actual nudity. I mean, who has sex with their pants and bra on? How convenient. Also, everything is so terribly violent and grim there....so where is rape? It would make sense in that world.

Him dying isn't a surprise, we've known from the start it'd need to be either him or Dina to spur Ellie's path of vengeance, and of those two Dina always seemed like the less likely candidate as it would open up claims of "fridging" and "killing your gays". There's reports ND has a threatening exit process where if you don't sign an NDA leaving the company you don't get paid. lol. I don't think that's even legal, unless it was agreed upon at time of hiring. But that rumour is out there.
The only NDAs I've ever seen in office life are at time of hire. You don't get hired freely and suddenly HR jams a last minute NDA at leaving.

He's' not recovering from that beating in a world without modern intensive care facilities. I could see him surviving the encounter only to give some death bed exposition and die from his injuries later, so I guess you're right that scene might not be where he ACTUALLY bites it, but the entire narrative of Ellie going after that group kind of hinges on him dying because of that attack.

It would also make sense to not forgive Ellie at the end and finish her off. or kill Dina while Ellie is watching and then kill Ellie too. They technically were even when Joel passed away, then Ellie killed Abby's people and Jesse kicks the bucket, so now it's down to the final showdown.
One of them has to obliterate the other or it'll never stop, but no, you have to keep them alive for no reason.

Again that's a bullshit rumor. There's nothing I've seen from the leaks I can say is 100% good or bad yet. Controversial ideas sure, not necessarily bad ones though.

Well he miraculously survived being impaled on a piece of rebar in the first game, so "grounded" or not its still fiction and they can do what they want!
The important thing is not to assume taking everything at face value is going to give an accurate reading. The way the story is constructed makes a big difference and the way that things seem to segue between past and present (think E3 trailer, and the Joel flashbacks in the leaks,etc) suggests that its an important tool in the narrative arsenal.
There's more to storytelling than having a few memorable or impactful beats.

By the way, we haven't actually seen the ending yet, just the fight. The latest on the timeline for the leaks is Abby and Lev looking for the fireflies.
So there's still a possibility of an Ellie vs Abby and the fireflies showdown at the end, mirroring the first game. Or they'll save it for the sequel, which will annoy me and many others, Naughty Dog doesn't do cliffhangers.

I think the analysis that he is murdered by Abbie or her group, and this is what puts Ellie on the path to vengeance is the key takeaway, whether it happens in the scene with the golf club or at some other point seems like superfluous speculation

Before we give Drunkman and kind of benefit of the doubt remember he's the guy who plagiarised Ellen Page's name, likeness, persona, sexual orientation, and got super defensive in a very odd way denying any similarity when called out on it calling it a "complete coincidence".
They even admitted they changed the original design to 'better match Ashley Johnson" the VA which seems like an odd choice of it was just a coinkydink.

What? I just meant that relationships are usually a big part of ND’s stories in their games. It’s a big theme. So Ellie’s relationships with Joel, tommy, her girlfriend, others will probably be a driving narrative force, just like the first game. That doesn’t automatically equal “Ellie’s sexuality is the biggest part of the game.” Cmon, don’t be such a simpleton.

3 million+ sales within the first week is going to show that the outcry is from a small monitory and they had no intention of buying the game anyways.

It will. Game itself will play absolutely wonderfully. The story was a selling point for the first game but there many ways to sidestep that review point. They might find themselves sympathetic to the cause, or not wanting to be a phobe (e.g. liking the first but not this one). Many goalpost angles exist to set this up with. The alt-right are running a campaign against this game!
Ghostbusters, Captain Marvel, The Last Jedi might be existing examples of what to expect.

The franchise sold something close to 20 million copies across the original and remaster on PS4, you'd think there would be TONS of supporters defending the game. Even Reeee was a shitshow of people criticizing the game.
Let's say a leak came out for Halo or Witcher or GTA and you had some dopey plot. For every naysayer, I'd bet there would also be a defender.
LoU2 looks like a game with almost universal common support for the meh/negative side coming from the leak. Amazing how skewed it seems to be with tons of extra work put into memes.

I mean I'm a defender, I think this is blown completely out of proportion.
Right now it's a mixture of
1) The usual anti-sjw stuff, which has been there since E3 2018 anyway. Maybe the loudest detractors but won't really matter to most.
2) People that never liked TLOU anyway, using this as more ammo. (4chan, Nintendo fans, some of these also in 1 category)
3) People genuinely upset at the Abby angle at the expense of Joel and Ellie, understandable looking at it from a place with limited context, and it's an intentionally divisive decision anyway.
4) A minority think it might be too violent.
5) Anti-crunch stuff.
4 (maybe 5, crunch didn't stop RDR2's reviews from being godly, and it shouldn't) is the only one that could potentially matter to critics and anyone going in "open -minded", they aren't gonna crap on the game for the idea of 3, they'll see it out and give it a chance. After that it's all down to the actual game's quality and execution, which from what I've seen doesn't have me worried at all, it looks stunning, plays better than TLOU1 and every cutscene I've seen was very well acted and directed. I have no reason to think it won't be as engaging as ND's previous work as of right now.
