Android |OT5| The Sonic Cycle

I might need a case for my Z3 for this reason - it just fell of the arm of my sofa onto my wooden floor again. Leather sofa too, so not slippery at all.

Is there a good, minimal case - ideally transparent - that will at least stop it being so slippery but not make it look horrible (I'm a fan of naked usually, but his phone is nexus 4 levels of slippery)

It would need to work with the magnetic charging dock too

Cruzerlite Bugdroid works with the magnetic case.

I wouldnt recommend transparent cases, they tend to get a yellow stain and look "dirty" after a month or so.

Os the nexus 5 still worth getting? I don't really want to pay too much for a phone, and nexus 5 sends the best. The g3 would be next step but more expensive monthly.

It's hard to get used to how 'rough' other phones feel around the edges after trying out S6 and iPhone 6 over the past week or so.

S6 isn't even that 'smooth' between the sides of the screen with its band, yet it's just 'smooth enough' that it doesn't feel like I'm being coarsed along the sides.

if you don't mind the size of it you're better off getting a oneplus2 if you want an older phone

nexus 5 battery isn't good.

It's worth it if you know what you're getting yourself into and prefer stock android. It still performs great but the battery is really bad. Either look at the OnePlus One if possible or just pay a bit more for the G3.

I hate recommending people get year old phones let alone years old phones. So yeah I agree.

Hang on - this thread has just been talking about how little things have moved on this year (aside from the S6 it seems). So buying a high end 2014 phone for a discount sounds like a decent option?

Yea, very weird, there really isn't a big performance jump from last year. Save money and get an old phone

depends what you're looking for and if you're signing a contract. I'm sorry but if you're signing a contract for a phone like a nexus 5 today...you goof'd.

And people can say that all they want how this is a skip year, to me it just reads like people justifying their 2014 or late 2014 purchases. Though I'll concede the M9 has super skip written all over it. The S6 is a huge improvement over previous samsung phones in hardware and especially software (that won't even come to their previous phones).

We'll have to wait and see if the G4 is a big jump over the G3, maybe it won't be. Even then I'd be hesitant to sign 2 years with a G3. That's just me though. I'm the kind that honestly doesn't mind paying a little more if it gives me a noticeably better device or better future proofing or anything like that.

WITH THAT SAID, we've still only seen like....2 flagships. So if you've seen enough then maybe yeah a 2014 phone is enough for you. It's all in the game.

wait... what!?

there's a 2/16 model? for really?
I wouldn't trust any of the text a lot of it seems placeholder but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a low end version. These companies are dumb.

Also I thought you'd orgasm at this:

Quick question everyone. On older versions of Kit Kat there was a dark theme where the dialler and text message interfaces had a black background similar to the dark theme we have here on NeoGAF. As of Kit Kat 4.4 which my Xperia Z3 Compact has there seems to be an unchangeable bright white theme that TBH I'm really not liking. So:

1. Is there a way to change the theme to dark in Kit Kat 4.4? Potentially by installing a theme or additional software?

2. If there isn't does Lollipop have the ability to change or customise the theme to dark?

I know this sounds insignificant but I was using the dark theme on my Xperia J for two years and this new bright white theme is kind of frustrating me at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated!

Seems that VoLTE battery bug on the S6 is legit. Not sure why they're married together, but turning off Advanced Calling on the VZW model kills simultaneous voice and data, even though pre-advanced calling Samsungs on VZW could do it. Annoying.

Well I'm glad it isn't a T-Mobile only S6 bug.

the previous devices were designed with antenna diversity to accomplish that. VoLTE support means they can skip that design step. the increasing amount of band support in newer devices makes it more complicated and costly to do and VoLTE solves the problem.

Long pressing menu in Chrome refreshes now, eh? I guess we're almost back to functional.

You can do quick swipe down from top will also refresh Chrome.

Now we just need much functional tabs switching and a full screen immersive mode before i switch back.

Maxthon still rockin' for me.

Speaker on the back is the worst, I don't understand how any OEM can think that's good placement for it.

Me neither it's such a silly place to put a speaker.

So got myself a generic wireless charger. not sure if it's because a cheap one but it's a pain in the ass getting it to line up and actually charge to the point of it being well pointless.

How do you turn it off? Its not setup in the wizard so is that considered off? Or is there an app to disable?

I wish priority mode was more like windows phone quiet hours. Nominating contacts high break through is fine, but I liked being able to restrict that to 'and calls twice within 3 minutes' to allow for emergencies but not ring during a meeting just because my dad calls me for something non-important.

Also automatically switching into quiet mode during scheduled events would be good, but for now Agent is doing that for me.

Would have overheated first.

You do realize the shape and everything is not the same right?
It kept looking different to me yeah but that Android article kept writing it was the exact same design as the G3. It looks more like a Nexus 5 to me yeah.

Same here. I have stopped using wireless charging now.

Just how bad was your Nexus 5 battery? I get about 3.5 hr on screen time for one charge. It's no where near the 5 hr or whatever my wife can get on oneplusone but that's a larger phone.
3hrs on a really good day, sometimes 3.5. Often between 2.5 and 3. Sometimes less when weird things were going on. This isn't on low brightness though. Don't believe in that shit since anyone can get decent battery if they lower it a ton.

It depends. I got one that is about the same dimensions of a phone and I just plop it down and it charges. The Samsung one is probably the best one as you can just plop the phone anywhere. It costs a pretty penny though.

One I have is the same length as my N6 but I have to put it off the top a bit to actually get the phone to charge. Yeah I'm not gonna spend anymore money on a wireless charger unless I can manage to get one that was designed for the N6 but it doesn't seem like Google are gonna make one for it like they did the N5/7.

Can't you put it on auto brightness xD. Putting it on high brightness permanently sounds environmentally wasteful.

I haven't found a phone where auto brightness is tolerable yet. I'll switch it to low sometimes, but auto is annoying when you see it change right in front of you.

Can you post a picture of the wireless charger?

And you consider that horrible? (for the size of phone) I barely get 2-2.5 hr with S3, my previous phone, if I was lucky.

This is what I do. I'm too fucking lazy to move it and I hate auto brightness.

Why leave it so dark? The colors don't pop. Love looking at the screen.

Doesn't the S6 let you control the degree of autobrightness? You can have +5 if you'd rather it tend to bright, and -5 if you like your eyes to be in a relaxed position lol.

10% is very bright to me when indoors. I leave it on the lowest setting of autobrightness (-5).
