This chat came up because an old coworker of mine decided to post on Facebook and accuse another old coworker of mine of rape. When she went on to talk about how it was consensual on both sides, they had both been drinking, etc. So, it sounds like a mistake was made on both sides. You know, a fling that ends in a walk of shame as a result of too much alcohol, etc. But if two people are tipsy and openly consent, that is NOT rape.

If you say drunk consent is not consent, how can anyone tell if both parties are drunk, and consent is given on both sides?!

The dude ended up ghosting her because she wanted more than that, and he didn't. In fact, he thought it was a mistake. After a bit of time he apologized to her that it even happened (because he's not one for one night stands anyway) and they talked about it and everything was fine. That was until she randomly decided she'd go to Facebook to accuse him of rape. It's completely fucked.

Fortunately I don't think anything is going to be happening to him as the girl sounds like she needs some help. Well, and I think people just don't pay attention to her statuses. But it was the closest to home I've seen something like this happen, and it was so incredibly false. It was absolutely disgusting. She still had a ton of mutual connections and some of them were like, "Oh we hear you and believe you.", "I'm deleting him, I don't associate with rapists.", and other similar comments. His job and career could've been absolutely ruined. It's awful.

tl;dr, the world sucks, and so do people. Doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. Becareful about who you talk to, engage with, have drinks with, etc. Because if you do something they don't like, they can turn everything against you.

Wow, glad your friend didn't have his life ruined over bullshit accusations.

I'm extremely wary of women that take to social media to announce their accusations rather than filling a report if it were indeed legitimate.
At that point it's not about "being afraid to come forward" when you've just announced it to the entire internet, which is the equivalent of shouting into a megaphone.
Filing false reports is illegal so that is likely a deterrent for many of them. Even then we still have some batshit crazy women willing to go that far to ruin anther person's life out of spite.

Making false accusations in and of itself is already a disgusting and selfish thing to do, but these women are so selfish they don't realize that doing so only serves to trivialize the severity of it for women that actually have been credibly raped or sexually abused. Weaponizing false sexual harassment or abuse claims is a very stupid and dangerous game to play.

Reminds me of the ProJared situation. Lots of accusations, little evidence, some outright lies. Guy was ruined until he came forth, proved wrong the most egregious accounts and has been growing back an audience.

Some things I've seen that have made me do a double take due to how idiotic they are.

1. Defending yourself is proof that you are guilty.

For some reason there's this idea I see expressed in situations like this that if the person who is accused defends themself in any way, that somehow is actual proof that they are guilty. For a moment imagine applying this to any other crime.

Theft, murder, destruction of property, etc. Levy an accusation of murder against someone, and if they defend themself, that means they are actually guilty.

Complete idiocy.

2. Person who made accusation has no reason to lie.

This another stupid one. The idea that because you personally think someone has no reason to lie based on your superficial and incomplete understanding of that person's thoughts, history and beliefs somehow means they are incapable of lying.

Again, imagine someone using this in any other situation and you quickly realize if not already how nonsensical it is.

Again, complete idiocy.

It seems the only reason these moronic ideas aren't immediately struck down is because of the hysteria that surrounds them that leads people to attack anyone who criticizes and shines a light on them.

Not to mention since the #MeToo movement those who accuse are, by default, believed. The person who is accused of the act now has to prove it to be false.

There is no reason why a woman can't go to the police. The excuse of "no one would believe me" or "he has too much power" doesn't work anymore. I mean Harvey freakin Weinstein is in jail. You couldn't get a job in Hollywood without his say so.

Oh I can't wait to see what Joe might do in response to this. I'm glad he's lawyer-ing up, because since this woman has no actually story of her own with any weight to it, she just says she thinks that he did it to other women. This totally sounds like slander.

This whole guilty untill proven innocent in these cases that happened years ago just feel so wrong to me... It's literally ones word against the other. It's very hard to prove anything.
 
A lot of father's would be "bad guy's" put into Joel's position. There was never a correct choice.
