Slam Dunk and YuYu were way bigger than Naruto and Bleach have ever been. How about comparing them all by a real metric? Average sales per volume:

Bleach: 1.36 million copies per volume
Naruto: 2.00 million copies per volume
YuYu Hakusho: 2.63 million copies per volume
Slam Dunk: 2.96 million copies per volume
One Piece: 4.79 million copies per volume
Dragon Ball: 5.48 million copies per volume

What were you saying earlier?

not only that, but virtually everyone in Japan still knows Dragon Ball. before the new movie even came out last year, you would still find dragon ball toys/merch on shop shelves over Naruto and Bleach both. I'm not sure of the numbers (nor do I know/care enough to find them tbqh) but I wouldn't be too surprised if the TV viewership of Dragon Ball Kai was higher than Naruto or Bleack.

Well Dragon Ball is history of anime all around the world, not only in japan.
Naruto and Bleach are not.

When those finish, 20 years later, very few people will remember, something that Dragon Ball is still doing.

Naruto is my favorite. I've been seeing it for ten years now. And I think it has gotten progressively better. He is great at making cool characters and interesting twists.

I think it's fair to say that the current war has been going on for a while now, but on the other hand, its my understanding that after this is the end of the anime and manga.

One Piece is by far the best and the one I enjoy the most out of the three. I still watch and enjoy Naruto, and I dropped Bleach a long time ago.

Hunter x Hunter is the best out of all of them though.

One Piece by a wide margin, Naruto lost its charm on me ages ago but I still like the world crafted for the story I think it's pretty interesting and one day will go back and catch up...

Bleach however turned to muck a long time ago and isn't worthy of being mentioned alongside the other 2, Hunter x Hunter is a better pick IMO (also preferred over Naruto these days but whatev)

One peice isn't very good. And I really hate the manga art style and I can onlly enjoy the movies really.

Bleach failed due to piss poor organizing

And naruto out of the 3 is the least bad, and jin kazama is in it. So it wins.

# bring back reborn

Hunter X Hunter sells more than Bleach and often more than Naruto as well.
Prior to being moved to late night, it also used to get better ratings than those shows.

The only thing hurting that series is Mr. Togashi himself.

I liked Reborn. They had decent pacing but some shit never got resolved. THAT ENDING WAS AWFUL

Bleach is still considered a big one?... even though it's near the bottom of the rankings? (manga)
The rankings don't map well to sales. Toriko has consistently good rankings yet each volume still fails to achieve a decent amount of sales, and that's even after the push of the anime.

Bleach has poor ratings but is still one of WSJ's big hitters when it comes to per volume sales.

True, the last 2 arcs of Reborn were really good, but fuck that ending so damn much. Worse ending of any anime or manga i have ever read or watched. I would rather have Soul Eater back though. I loved that manga, and still do.

I recently read Kingdom and it´s so good.

Top manga for me are

Bleach
Magi
Kingdom
Vinland Saga
Noblesse
D. Grey-man
HXH

I want DGM and HXH back so bad.

Screw the "big three" Gintama is the best long running shonen.

But I'll give a nod towards One Piece because I like the "We Are" tune which is just about all I know about the three shows combined.

Bleach was enjoyable until the overly long battle against Aizen. After that it's so boring and stupid I won't talk about it.

Naruto was enjoyable until the Pain battle. After that it become DBZ with Ninjas that never hide.

Never read One piece.

My man. Gintama is aces.

Out of the three though, One Piece. Great premise, good story, very powerful scenes and penultimate events, great characters, great humour, great world building, consistent power levels (no pulling crazy powers from nowhere), bizarre settings and interesting power sets. Water 7/Enies Lobby was the arc that propelled One Piece into God-tier. The best thing about it is that the story hasn't crawled up its own ass (yet).

If I had to levy criticisms at One Piece, some of the panels are a bit too detailed such that sometimes I don't even know what I'm looking at, and that all the pretty women look the same (Nami clones).

One Piece> Hunter X hunter = DBZ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bleach >>>>> Naruto.

Stick magi / YuYu Hakusho / OPM etc somewhere before Bleach. Even NEGIMA! is a better Shounen manga than Bleach .

Man I just gotta say as someone who's been a fan of HxH (manga) for like seven years seeing all of these people suddenly bringing it up in every anime thread nowdays is awesome

One Piece.

Never read/watched Naruto cause I hate the art. Bleach was great at first but fell off a cliff in the 3rd or 4th arc.

One Piece. One Piece by quite some fuking distance. The other two stopped being on One Piece's level after their very first major arcs. Zabuza arc and Saving Rukia/Soul Society arc were excellent shonen manga. The rest are pure shit. :(

One Piece is just so fuking beautiful. Still has dat adventure manga feel that Dragon Ball and Rave Master had while having very interesting mysteries. Plus I love how the gang are technically criminals (lol, pirates, duh!) and that there aren't many 100% innocent people (maybe Coby?). Corrupt governments, pirates, adventure, power rankings that aren't fucked up and easy to follow, wacky protagonists that are criminals but would do anything for dat nakama time. Recipe for awesomeness.

If I were to rank current shonen manga it would be:

1. One Piece
2. One-Punch Man
3. Kuroko

Shingeki no Kyojin hasn't been at its best recently. Nothing ever gets done/revealed. 53 chapters and nearly 3 years later we practically still don't know shit.
And wasn't finding Erens basement the main priority/storyline? Well, I think the author must have forgotten about that since that hasn't been brought up in a while. The author keeps shoving in more pointless mysteries and problems which keep delaying the whole find the basement plot. Ughhh

And HxH.... Hmm, absolutely godlike until the Chimera ant arc. Not because the art decreased in quality (I understand the author was sick so I do appreciate him/her at least trying to continue the story), but because that kinda screwed up the power levels completely. It also went on for far too long. It did wrap up really nicely and opened up a very interesting arc.

I haven't read Mob Psycho 100 but judging by the plot outline it seems quite generic. Psychic powers + school setting + main char in love with a popular girl that doesn't notice him = blleeehh, no thanks.

One Piece by a long shot.

I've been watching One Piece ever since it was on 4kids, and was enjoying it. By that time I didn't notice all the censoring because it was the first time I was watching One Piece. Then it came on Toonami and I started watching it every week, even my friends watched it. Then Toonami shut down and I stopped watching One Piece. Then after playing One Piece Unlimited Adventure and trying to figure out who the heck this
Franky person in their crew
was, I started watching the Japanese subs. I've been watching it ever since, it's my favorite shounen.

Naruto I liked when it first premiered. I stopped watching it after Toonami stopped showing it. Then Shippuden appeared and I lost all interest. I do watch the fights on Shippuden sometimes, I really like the animation in it when it isn't a little too much.

Bleach I've never been interested in. I could never remember anyone's name, anyone's sword, or their moves. So I just dropped it. The names were way too darn long or confusing. I never got the story of it either.

1) One Piece
2) Naruto
3) Bleach

From everything I've heard, it wasn't that he was sick, he just couldn't be bothered. Dude's super rich (even moreso since his wife wrote sailor moon), and doesn't seem to have any passion for his work anymore. His messages (I think it was on twitter) about procrastinating with DQIX a few years back were rather amusing.

On the other end of the spectrum, even though Oda's (One Piece author) super rich, he works himself very hard, to an almost unhealthy extent.

Oda takes a lot of breaks. Mashima on the other hand pumps 3 chapters a week, and sometimes 35 page chapters, and he rarely takes breaks.

Bleach by far. I love the character designs and the main character/villains

Naruto has its moments, but this current arc is dragging.

One Piece, I keep trying, but I can't get into the artstyle and story that much.

You HAVE to be fucking trolling.

Are we seriously going to try and pretend that OP doesn't have the same power inflation problems that pretty much all Shounen manga have?

:lol

Oh wow. That sucks. Kinda reminds me of the stories i've heard about Kubo. A naturally talented person who struck gold and couldn't be bothered anymore. Well, at least Kubo didn't start drawing like a 10 year old, instead, he just stopped doing backgrounds!

Ranma > Dragon Ball Z >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> these 3

But from what I saw, Naruto has the best animated fights ... so this

Hunter x Hunter is disqualified because the manga has to be being MADE to stay in the top 3 IMO :(
OP asked anime/manga gaf, the HxH anime remake is currently airing, is fantastic and blows almost everything else out of the water which is a very strange thing for me to say about a fighting show.

Relatively speaking. It's done way better than Bleach, Naruto and DBZ that's for sure.

You can easily rank One Piece characters in order of strength (obviously done with a reasonable amount of guesswork). If you asked most of the OP fanbase to rank one piece characters all lists would come out pretty similar.

That's why I think the power levels are done pretty well.

For someone who does not give any care HXH is still one of the better Shounen out there :/

I am scare that Oda will drop dead some day form overwork. I guess he really enjoy his work and his world. I love all the small details he put in every panel and that everything he draw or was mentioned can have significance to the story.

The real genius is Toriyama Akira. Even when he BS, the buu story line its still enjoyable . Gohan should have won :(

Big mistake. Read it. It's amazing. Really, ONE is the best thing to happen to shounen in a while.

I vastly prefer One Piece in anime, hated all that filler in Bleach

Haven't seen Naruto, I'm waiting for the series to end to binge-watch the series

Talking about binge watching, do you guy know if there are something like a "fan-cut" of the anime? I mean, I love watching one piece, but is a pain in the ass to have to skip the intro and random flashbacks when you are watching six episodes in one sitting. no fan has done this? an edition with 5 episodes pasted together, without flashbacks or intros would be cool

atm. one piece.

used to be naruto, then it spiraled down, and then it was a mixture of naruto and bleach.

now that bleach is off the air i stopped following it and naruto since the manga is so far ahead.

i'm just watching newer shoes that got my attention such as kill la kill, magi, silver spoon, ippo too.

the thing with people who couldn't get into one piece and had to start from the beginning was that it's already really far into 600 plus episodes now. Better start to just watch the first 20 or so episodes, then just skip around and watch interesting arcs such as the saobody, marineford, and that one where they fight section something.

its very hard to watch episode 1 and go all the way through. just skip around arcs.

:lol

Luffy only had his 1st transformation in Chapter 387, at least that a accomplishment lol

And in One piece even weak characters have their uses , there is no Yamcha like DBZ yet.

What ever happened to Hiro Mashima?

Seriously, Rave Master was godly. He kinda just copy-pasted a lot of things from RM to Fairy Tail. It kinda started off well and then it just got bad. Like really bad.

brb Natsu and co. vs a group of bad mages
brb Natsu and co. are losing
brb nakama power up
brb Natsu and co. win

Rinse and fuking repeat...

These power ups of friendship are such bs as well. Natsu eating Laxus' lightning and then fuking lightning fire powers. Mfw...

And those power levels are non existent.

Natsu >>>> everybody else. Even if the entire magic world had 7 years worth of training and power ups, Natsu would still find a bloody way to win. Erry single time...

Well at least with One Piece, most power boosts involve technique changes. It's not like they just power up and suddenly punch 5000x harder.

Ranma > Dragon Ball Z >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> these 3

But from what I saw, Naruto has the best animated fights ... so this

Animation is pretty damn inconsistent in all of the Big 3's anime. They all have their good episodes, I wouldn't really say Naruto has the 'best' animated fights.

Everyone knows that HxH is our true Shonen savior anyways. But One Piece is my vote on the big 3 for manga, and Naruto for anime (although the pacing is only slightly better).

This. Even weak characters like Usopp and Nami turn out to be pretty strong when they actually try.
