Anime/MangaGaf: Out of the Big 3, which do you enjoy the most?

What ever happened to Hiro Mashima?

Seriously, Rave Master was godly. He kinda just copy-pasted a lot of things from RM to Fairy Tail. It kinda started off well and then it just got bad. Like really bad.

brb Natsu and co. vs a group of bad mages
brb Natsu and co. are losing
brb nakama power up
brb Natsu and co. win

Rinse and fuking repeat...

These power ups of friendship are such bs as well. Natsu eating Laxus' lightning and then fuking lightning fire powers. Mfw...

And those power levels are non existent.

Natsu >>>> everybody else. Even if the entire magic world had 7 years worth of training and power ups, Natsu would still find a bloody way to win. Erry single time...
Natsu is hands down the worst Shounen protagonist ever conceived on ink.

When Naruto is a better protagonist than you are, you KNOW you done fucked up

Relatively speaking. It's done way better than Bleach, Naruto and DBZ that's for sure.

You can easily rank One Piece characters in order of strength (obviously done with a reasonable amount of guesswork).

That's why I think the power levels are done pretty well.

That is not true at all. You got Whitebeard who could change landscapes, and Blackbeard who can create black holes and nullifies DF. Akainu can make rain meteors. The mermaid princess is a weapon of mass destruction, etc....
These power level are as ludicrous as any shonen battle manga.
If you asked most of the OP fanbase to rank one piece characters all lists would come out pretty similar.
Utterly ludicrous and false. OP fans, much like any battle manga fans, kill each other over power levels.

One Piece.

In terms of sales the top 3 as of right now are:

One Piece
Attack on Titan
Kuroko no Basket

Kuroko is just holding the spot until Swagmoto gets an anime.

He's not even a character anymore at this point. He's just an amalgamation of infinitely revolving "FRIENDSHIP!" catchphrases with a name.

Its more like which one sucks the least for me.

I never could get into One Piece.
I liked Naruto until all the Pain shit. Now its just out of hand.
Bleach was my favorite of the 3 and I dont even like that anymore.

In a perfect world HxH would be the hottest shonen story. Kuroko is also way better than the Big 3.

I started reading them in this order : Naruto > Bleach > One Piece.
Now, if I were to rank them for my appreciation of them, it would be in this order :
One Piece >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>*infinite>Bleach>Naruto>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fairy Tail

One Piece is one of my favorites reading of all time.

Really? Nami has not done any serious fighting since Water 7 arc.

If you read the manga then Nami
isn't super strong like Luffy or Zoro, but she can hold her own now. She held off the giant kids multiple times during the Punk Hazard arc, and defeated a few fishmen during the Fishmen Island Arc. You are correct that she hasn't done any serious fighting since Water 7, but it showed that she can fight if she has to.

Naruto is my favorite, so many cool characters and awesome moments. Battles are nicely choreograph and I like how the author uses symbolism in often heartwarming ways.

Bleach is just a cool ass Manga, the art is way above the other two, just flowing with style, I like that it doesn't try to be more epic than it needs to be, so often you can enjoy typical shower 1 to 1 fights.

Open Piece is really boring and has bad art, years and years had passed and I don't feel the main character is even close to his goal.

The animes for all three shows are bad. I don't know how anyone can watch 500+ episodes of each series and not want to kill themselves because of the absurdly slow pacing.

That said, One Piece is so far ahead of its contemporaries that it literally baffles me.

I got into Naruto first when I was in high school. I still hold the character of Naruto dear to my heart, but the manga went off the rails after the time skip. When the focus shifted to Sasuke and his bullshit darkness, the story lost the focus that I originally loved it for: it was about Naruto, a reviled underdog slowly working his way towards respect and admiration from his peers and seeing his drive affect other people like Shikamaru and Gaara. When the story became about vengeance, angst, and goofy villains, it lost me. Kishimoto also mishandled the seeds he planted in Part 1 by resolving them so poorly in Part 2. Personally, I think the dude just burned out. I still read Naruto but think so much potential was squandered. I thought about the mini arc where Naruto meets his parents and wondered what the hell happened to THAT Kishimoto and how did he show up all of a sudden.

Bleach was pretty cool when I got into it. I saw the anime when Naruto was going through its filler phase. I really liked Ichigo since he handled himself like a delinquent and his chemistry with Rukia had so much heart worked into it. I really liked how the series became more than just a monster of the week series when the Soul Society arc started. The drama ratcheted up and the influx of new characters injected a lot of wonder into its universe. Kubo tried pulling the same trick over and over again and that's why it lost me.

He screwed up the power levels. He introduces new characters constantly forgetting the old ones. I just got the feeling that the author was making it up as he went along and doing a sloppy job at it. Characters that the story spent so much time building up like Rukia, Chad, Yoruichi, they're all just plot devices now and it sucks because those are the characters I cared about. I mostly just read now because, why the hell not? Chapters take like two minutes and I still like Ichigo.

One Piece, man, I don't know how I get into it. I guess it was around a time that I was so disgruntled with where Naruto and Bleach were that somebody told me to read One Piece. I think the manga was in the Amazon Lily arc so the chapter count terrified me. It was a lot to catch up on. But I started reading it and have been a fan ever since. Oda is a master of his craft. He keeps the weekly chapters moving -- always building up to a big reveal. He doesn't forget about characters even if you do. The world is imaginative and unpredictable and the cast is just charming. They're a bunch of misfits who follow the goofiest main character of all time.

I can go on and on about One Piece. It's adventure storytelling at its absolute finest. Even the arcs that people usually hate on, I find myself enjoying because they're stuffed with so much detail that you can catch on rereads. I've read the entire manga twice and some arcs like three times. It's just great.

While I won't say OP is boring, per se, but I feel like it's going to REALLY outstay its welcome in the coming years.

It has over 730+(!!!) chapters and Oda came out and said recently that he was barely at the halfway point.

One Piece is ahead of the pack by a wide margin for me as well, and the reason it's so far ahead of Naruto is the utilization of the support cast. There are so many worthless losers in Naruto/Bleach that it's not even funny and the writing has become so predictable it's painful to watch.

Start of arc: we meet which supporting characters are present
First mook with unknown powers appears: One supporting character goes down because that's how you show off how dangerous the enemy is
More supporting characters show up "haha behold my new power I learned since the end of the last arc!"
Big Bad: "lol no"
Then every supporting character falls like a goddamn domino and it's up to Jesus/Naruto/Ichigo to do all the heavy lifting.

There's no narrative reason to have the supporting cast bounce off the big bad for as long as Naruto and Bleach stretch it. They end up looking useless and stupid and it's a huge disservice to the plot. One Piece usually doesn't waste you time like that, the supporting cast play *gasp* supporting roles in the arc and *gasp* tend to win their battles without a long drawn out 'well you didn't know about THIS POWER did you!' tug-of-war.

Edit: Berserk is shonen??

I read the manga, but defeating fodder does not make her useful. And if you are talking about this kind of useful plenty of characters in other manga do somewhat similar. She has not shown anyone the limit of her ability or if she can hold her own against strong enemies since water 7.

Really? Support character in Bleach get way more air time than in any other shonen manga. Your post is filled with utter and false shit. Side characters in both Naruto and Bleach especially Bleach got a lot of air time. In one piece it´s mostly about Luffy and the crew. Oda did not even bother show the full strength of Whitebeard pirates, and instead opted out for 3 fleet commanders who done anything significant.
No wasted time in one piece? Lol 90% of Skypia, and Fishmen island are a waste of time, and most of thriller bark. FYI one piece has just introduced last year
artificial devil fruits
, so much for known powers lol.

Lol, i watched most of OP 3-4 times already. I usually rewatch entire anime every 3 or so years. I don't get any complaints about pacing, but on the other hand i never read much of the manga. Bad pacing or not, all I know is more the merrier. I can watch 1000 or 10 000 episodes, I don't care.

I also watched pre-shipuuden Naruto at least 4 times.

One Piece. I did actually enjoy the other two for a little bit, but at one point or another it never felt like they were going anywhere. We've known where the Straw Hats are headed since the very beginning, and it always feels like Oda is one step ahead of us, rather than trying to re-capture the popularity of a previous arc.

One Piece can be hit or miss with its arcs, but I feel like each arc mixes it up while also moving the story forward. That's enough to keep me reading it. I think the major thing that makes it satisfying is that even when Oda gets lost in exposition and backstory in the middle of an arc, he almost always makes it pay off in the end. I feel like even my least favorite arcs at least had enormously satisfying conclusions. Also, he just keeps introducing amazing characters, and I feel like he never wears out their welcome. They're around as long as they're needed, and then the story moves on.

Don't get me wrong, the series has issues, particularly with the de-evolution of the female cast and bad mid-arc pacing. But the strong focus and creativity keeps me coming back regardless.

Berserk is not shounen, it's seinen.

Oh yeah.

Still it outclasses them all handily in every department.

In terms of anime I enjoyed Naruto far more than Bleach and definitely way more than OP. Naruto has some of best animated fights I have seen for an anime series but like a lot of shounen you have shit animation in between and so much filler -___-

One Piece is great. Naruto got pretty boring around episode 80, and Bleach is probably the worst anime ever created.

Really? Support character in Bleach get way more air time than in any other shonen manga.

It's not about airtime, it's about their win/loss ratio. Go check out how often Captains actually won their fights during the Aizen arcs and the current invasion arc. Kubo has a pernicious habit of offscreening what would have otherwise been incredible battles as well.

Who cares about "air time" when they consistently do jack shit. Supporting characters in Naruto (Part 2) and Bleach are just there to look cool killing worthless mooks, One Piece's at least do something integral to the story.

I would be happy if Naruto's cast was more useful, even if all they did was beat up mooks. I actually like those characters. It depressed me to see how
All five kages were little more than a speed bump to undead Madara, and basically turned the whole fight over to Naruto the second he revived fully
. And speaking of mooks
THE ONLY ONE LEFT IS ZETSU and his power is infinite replication, lol
. I don't like it when the characters I like just lose and lose and lose. Bleach's big problem is that many of the characters aren't very likable to begin with. Most of my favorite Bleach characters haven't been seen in 50+ chapters.

I want DGM and HXH back so bad.

You and me both. I recently re-read D.Gray Man and I really want it to keep going. Same with HxH.

Also, all you people who say early bleach was the best are crazy. The Hueco Mundo/Fake Karakura town arcs are the best.

Edit: I think the problem with Bleach is that Kubo keeps his chapters to a bare minimum. He wastes pages focusing on small actions when he should keep it at a faster pace

isn't dragonball way bigger than any of those? or are those ones still running
In terms of manga, One Piece is bigger than Dragon Ball in worldwide sales. In terms of anime popularity or merchandise sales then DB is probably better, but dunno we have no numbers on that.

isn't dragonball way bigger than any of those?

All of the big 3 are still currently running but the authors have said Bleach and Naruto are in their last year while One Piece still has a ways to go. also I think One Piece has surpassed Dragonball in sales. It's absolutely massive in Japan and it has a pretty sizable fanbase here too. I'm not sure though.

In response to the OP, One Piece is the best by far. Naruto's really hit or miss with me and Bleach is just awful. I started out reading all 3 at one point but One Piece is the only one I'm still going with, and Oda has managed to still be on top of his game even with the enormous chapter count.

For me Naruto has higher highs, but I've only seen up to the end of the Pain arc. One Piece is more consistently good, but I've only seen up to partway through Water 7.

When Kubo actually, genuinely, tries, he's a tier above the other two. The problem is, he just doesn't feel like it most of the time.

Berserks a better manga and shounen/adventure thing than all of them by far though. Shame it gets updated so infrequently.

Berserk is technically a seinen. Same as Battle Angel Alita. I like them both more than any of these Big 3 manga.

I stopped reading Naruto a few months ago. That war arc is just a giant clusterfuck. And the villains don't seem evil enough. Obito was just a dumb kid who went crazy because he lost a girl he wasn't even dating. Madara is just sort of boring, etc. Pain was interesting until they turned him into a tragic hero.

That's the real problem right now. There's no gravita to the story. No real villains, just a bunch of dumb, tragic good-meaning folks doing questionable things. I love some grey in my black and white but it's way too grey at the moment with Naruto. They need to focus on Orochimaru again, he was a real villain.

Nah, One Piece is bigger now. It's not by that much, and the two stand comfortably aboveeeverything else.

Considering how much the two genres overlap, that distinction is pretty much meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Seinen tend to take on more complex subject matter tho, so the distinction does have merit. You'll never see anything like the Egg Feast from Berserk (that part where Griffith sacrifices everyone and only Guts and Caska survive) in a shounen. Never.

Or pseudo-science into D-Theory for that matter.
