I love EGM
yes i did. one of the best fucking albums ever made. I still feel dirty listening it to this day. I don't think there has yet to be an album to capture atmosphere the way this album has

I picked up both the DVD and the album version. I'm glad I picked up both because they added some stuff to the Closer video in the audio department. There's some neat little audio things that aren't in the original video and make full use of the surround sound atmosphere. Same goes for the album version (when I say album, I mean the double disc set) All in all a good pick up, although I miss the nothing logo AND I dislike the federal warning crapola they put on the packaging. Boo!

now if they can do this to the Fragile I'd be all set...

this really annoys me. I see it more and more and id rather not have that shit printed on whats supposed to a collectors edition of an album. Ive even seen them go as far as printing it on the Disc itself

if you get the Dualdisc version, you can. It has a 5.1 mix that should be able to play on any DVD player.

I went to 5 different music stores and couldn't find a copy of the SACD disc anywhere. Dammit, I want to compare the two mixes.

The new mix of the album is great, though. They brought a lot of instruments out of the noise and you can hear so much more now. Love this release.

Ditto on "The Fragile"!

Bumping this thread. Anyone compared the original release to this new remastered version? I don't have a SACD player so will I get any benefit by getting this new version? Is the difference that noticeable?

There is a difference yes, it just sounds way better and they added some stuff to make it surround. So like, during Closer towards the end there is this, I don't know how to explain it, but like a tidal (sp) wave like thing going from the back channels from left to right, back and forth. Louder drums in Piggy and stuff like that.

If you want the extra songs get the CD Double Disc, if you want a remastered Closer video, then get the DVD version. There are other videos in there, like March of the Pigs and Hurt...but I don't think they were remastered (audio-wise, anyway).

So there you go!

Ruiner sounds SO much better that it's not funny. A lot of the compression artifacts have been removed, so the whole album sounds a lot cleaner.

I <3 it

edit: and I can see why they didn't do anything with the March of the Pigs video, since it was an actual performance rather than the album version

I got the dvd-a version, probly get the sacd later
the dvd has a couple videos and stuff in surround on it too
it's also got a dvd video menu to listen to the songs so you can play it on any normal dvd player or ps2 etc

Not allowed by whom?

My girlfriend.

We agreed not to buy anything from November till Christmas for our selves.

Kinda sucks since its the first NIN release I've never gotten on day one.

Oh well...

*sighs*

I'm not a fan of NIN (never bought anything for them and never even considered it) but I think I'll be picking this one up, only to increase my SACD library to TWO albums :lol

I bought a nice Sony 5.1 system JUST for Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon SACD, although it ended it being a great purchase since I use the system for DVD movie watching and I hooked up my consoles to it for 5.1 DD and DPLII, but it sucks that I only have one SACD music album to listen to, so I heard about this and downloaded the mp3s to check it out, I think I like it enough to warrant a purchase :p

Any other decent SACD releases anybody can recommend? It's so bad that I'm looking into buying Elton John's now :lol

Norah Jones first album is on SACD
and most of the rollingstones catalogue is now in SACD
Herbie Hancock - headhunter is also on SACD (man does it sound good)

ye gods! Tons of great releases on SACD. Keane was just released, Incubus' A Crow Left of the Murder is out, the Aerosmith's greatest hits disc is out. Eric Clapton just released a few albums on SACD, Slowhand included. I have Elton John's Yellow Brick Road double SACD set and it sounds great. I also have The Who's Tommy and My Generation, also great sounding discs.

If you like classical there are a few great discs available such as the soundtrack to "Amadeus" and a box set of Beethoven's symphonies.

I bought a SACD/DVDA player so I have a total of about 40 discs between the two formats. They both sound great but SACD wins for me because you don't have to navigate to hear the music - you just press play.

As the months go by there are more and more albums that are becoming available that normal people would buy (IOW less classical, more current stuff) so keep your eyes peeled for the discs.

see, the problem with that is almost all of the companies are going to be supporting the new DualDisc format (DVDA).

For example, Incubus' album "A Crow Left of the Murder" is going to be released on DualDisc this spring. Who is their label? Epic/Sony. Sony is SACD. Why are they supporting the competing format? No one is really sure, or at least no one I've asked knows.

moral: keep that player, or at least get a cheap SACD one. The pioneer 563a is what I have. it's cheap (I think I paid $179) and works great.
