Apple’s Fall iPhone Event To Be Held Sept. 9

10 bucks says they'll call force touch on IPhone a "click". Or "smart click"

And the marketing for the iPhone 6S will be all about things "just clicking".

Everybody wants contracts back because carriers ended contracts and switched to monthly payments for phones, but they've only increased the prices of their plans. I can't help but shake my head at anybody not understanding that.
But the plans really aren't more expensive. At least, not if you've upgraded your phone anytime recently. Yeah, of course if you're on some grandfathered plan with unlimited data and 1500 minutes with unlimited text for $60 it's a step back. But a LOT of people aren't on that because not everyone keeps their phone for 4 years.

I have a ton of customers daily that are on antiquated plans that are paying out the ass for practically no data, a set amount of minutes and non unlimited texts because they just never bothered to look and see how little they're getting. For many people these new installment plans (on all carriers) are a better bargain. There's always the odd person out that managed to get a crazy deal but they're few and far between

That's not going to happen. The margins are too good on the higher storage models and when people are willing to still pay the price they have no reason to change anything. Not to mention if 32GB's becomes the base less people will even bother with 64GB's (I know I'd stay at 32GB).

Unfortunately ... and that's why I'm not upgrading at 80%
But please 16Go is a joke and if rumors about 4K video are true, it would be more stupid to keep 16Go

But yes, it's Apple, they need high margin but come on, we're in 2015 ...

Wait what? I forget the exact number, but my mother and I had been paying 160-180 a month total (and that was discounted with an employer rate no less) for 2 GB each and limited texts/minutes. That's the rate I had been paying with AT&T from day 1 switching to my first smartphone with a Nexus 1. Now? We are paying 125 a month total with unlimited texts/minutes and a shared pool of 15 GB. Huge difference. Still with AT&T. I'm glad contracts are basically gone, especially since I never even bought contracted phones in the first place. I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off anymore like I used to.

I doubt it, force touch on the Apple Watch is for menus because there's not a lot of screen real estate otherwise

I think they will sort secondary items in force touch menus. They love getting rid of chrome in favor of content. Which is sometimes a good thing.

My Verizon contract ends the day these are supposed to come out. It's fate. Goodbye 5c. Switching to T-Mobile because Verizon is way too expensive.

I can't wait for this event!

Plenty of people are still on AT&T's older plans which are still a better value. Right now we're a family of 5 on an older plan that netted unlimited text, rollover minutes with which we never used all of, and each line gets 300MB's of data. Total is $250 a month before employer discount with each of us getting subsidized iPhone's every two years.

Compare that with their newer plan that costs $145 and then if we all continue to get our iPhone's on AT&T NEXT it'll cost $253 and that's with shared 200MB's of data.

Honestly I'd find it really difficult to believe you were paying $190-$200 for a plan with only two people on it. My family of 5 has an older AT&T plan that sounds a lot like what you got except less data and we paid $250 before employer discount. I mean hell, Verizon used to offer a single line with 1GB of data and unlimited Talk/Text for $60 a month that was freely available before they completely cancelled contracts.

do the various MVNOs take these new iPhones no problem?

if i got an unlocked 6S could i run it on page plus wireless no problem like with the 4S right now?

If force touch on iPhone means the same thing as on Apple Watch, ie invisible menus, then bleh.

Force Touch on the MacBook Pro can make it feel like your finger is meeting resistance when swiping, like reaching the end of a page or something. They can pull of all sorts of haptic tricks with it.

Ahhh I just want to upgrade my 5C to a phablet already, gimme! The options for unlocked Android phablets is less than desirable.

This may be the first iPhone event where the iPhone isn't the star of the show! I've been saying for years that an App Store-equipped Apple TV could be a game-changer, and could put Sony and Microsoft on their toes. Now it might come to pass.

As for the 6s/6s+, it's high time they concentrated on specs. Make the processor at least quad-core (octa-core preferably but I doubt it), bump the RAM up to 2GB, and get the camera up to at least 12, preferably 16 megapixels.

Meanwhile, Force Touch could be revolutionary, and I'm already anticipating Darth Vader and Chewbacca getting dragged out on stage to demonstrate it (since Disney and Apple are besties, after all).

Oh, and a Taylor Swift appearance. Because why the fuck not.

I look forward to the new phones and will be upgrading, but I hope the only difference isn't Force Touch (I mean big difference, not just RAM updates and other component updates). As someone who had a 16 digit pin, Touch ID was huge for me, and at this point I don't see Force Touch on a phone to be that huge of an improvement.

We won't be getting iPad updates at this event, but I hope we get a new Apple TV that has an App Store. That's all I really want. I don't need a subscription to a TV service that much. All I need is Air Video HD on the Apple TV so I don't have to keep switching wifi networks to Air Play a video. Having it built-in to the Apple TV would be huge for me. That, and games would be fun. Lastly, I hope they make improvements to Air Play, maybe bluetooth or faster wifi, to help with interference and speed issues that can get in the way of the proper Air Play experience.

I also hope we get more information on the home automation/hub stuff since that stuff seems a bit dead in the water at the moment.

Come on now, they don't need to add more CPU cores just for the sake of saying they added more cores. The current dual-core's run fine in comparison to the chip-set's of their competitors rocking Quad/Octacore CPU's.

The only megaton hardware reveal for an iPhone will be that of the camera with an aperture of f2.0 or wider.

More RAM?
Faster CPU/GPU?
Faster Wifi?
Force Touch

These are inconsequential as far as daily usage is concerned. Nothing more than marketing phrases a teen would use to justify a purchase to their parents.

i'm excited. i need a new phone. can't stand the battery life on my Nexus 5, although it is an otherwise excellent phone. Ready for something different, I hope. Apple, please impress me!

Improved wifi speeds will be inconsequential, but all the other things are extremely important for daily usage. Improved performance is just a "duuuuuuh" improvement, RAM is going to be great for improved web browsing and reducing page refreshing (a big inconvenience for daily usage), and Force Touch has some solid potential to be a good time saver by offering shortcuts.

I'm out of the loop-

Can I still buy the iPhone 6s at a subsidized price with AT&T if I'm up to renew my contract? Or is it that monthly payment thing only?

I would bet you if you looked at statistics within the iPhone userbase, a large portion of them use less than 16gb. I really don't think it's Apple being cheap but actually understanding how people are using their phones.

You don't know what you're talking about when you say more than 1GB of RAM is useless. Constant reloading in Safari is a pain in the ass.

That happens on Mac OS as well. Look, I'm not saying an improved Safari is not needed but in terms of being something to make the iPhone stand out? That or replace mirrorless cameras/DSLR's for the non-pro consumer? There is no comparison.

Performance is already pretty great to be honest. My point is: the phone isn't in need for a performance boost; it isn't going to drive pre-order sales or build hype.

Your Safari on MacOSX can only handle a handful of tabs before needing to reload them? Are you suggesting they not bump the hardware because it's "good enough" after a whole year?

Also, all of the S upgrades have historically been spec/feature bumps. Don't know why you're looking for show-stopper hardware additions when those traditionally happen in the numbered upgrades.

What date does this earlier event mean it will likely be released on? I can't remember if it is usually the Friday or Wednesday after it is announced. Any indication of release date?

You believe a 0.2 larger aperture will make the iPhone rival DSLRs?

An improved camera (implies improved sensor hardware) with a wider f-stop, yes. That's what builds excitement. "Improved performance" shouldn't be a marketing term for a larch tech company; it should be expected by default.

4G enabled
Larger screen
Thin profile
Great app store.

What's left for the iPhone? A hologram projector? Let's start with a real performance boost with the camera.

It already has one of the best camera's out which is a capable shooter so no.

The ability to choose customs apps and adding widgets to a home screen would be the end of Android lol.

Design wise, they need to work towards minimizing the top and bottom bezels and increase the battery size.

Time to change my 4s

I really hate that the two-finger selection still isn't on iPhone. Especially with how difficult and time consuming and annoying and clusterfucky it is to delete large portions of text when trying to post a reply on this forum and you only want to quote a tiny part of a large post without accidentally erasing the QUOTE tags or the text you want to quote. Moving those blue bars is so hard when you need to scroll up or down far and a lot of the time they slip and go to the wrong position or cancel themselves out abruptly.

We need to be able to select each one and move it individually on the iPhone either with the gesture they removed (Which will hopefully at least come to the 5"+ sizes) or arrow buttons to fine tune it.

And it's still a shame we'll have to go one more year with 16GB as the base. But hopefully the RAM isn't skimped on this time.

It's even more frustrating because thirdparty keyboards are restricted from implementing select, cut, copy and paste. Apple needs to sort out the keyboard situation on the iPhone, it's shameful.

Do they use less than 8GB too? Apple is still selling an 8GB iPhone for $450 right now...

Never happened to me.

"for the non-prosumer"

Non-prosumers who own DSLRs are basically using them as glorified point and shoots w/ kit lenses, so yeah - camera phones are doing to those what they already did to dedicated point and shoot. That's over and done with. The camera market's fucked because the masses have switched to phones.

The iPad pro will run a touch enabled version of Mac OSX. I'm stoked.

Releasing a bigger and faster iPad only to have it run iOS just doesn't make sense. The iPad's already not selling well.

The iPhone 5C caters to the budget consumer, I would imagine a no frills version with the least possible cost of inputs is to their advantage for that model. I think the 16gb limit is bullshit honestly, but from a business standpoint I can understand the reasoning, they realistically probably see a very large portion of their userbase not using storage.

Not one rumor has stated this, or anything remotely close. Most popular rumor is larger iPad running iOS 9 (multi tasking being the main draw aside from larger screen real estate) with a bluetooth enabled stylus that will adopt palm rejection when activated.

Yes I read those rumors myself. I can't see Apple creating a stylus. I could be wrong but that just doesn't seem right. Not really Apple's style-LUS.

Tablets are on the same arc as MP3 players. Phones will consume everything.

Apple introduced an iOS9 feature that auto deletes apps and frees up more storage when it is time for an OS update. That's a clear indication that Apple knows many of their customers are having space issues. By trying to 'solve' it with software they are pinching pennies for hardware profits
