Apple’s Fall iPhone Event To Be Held Sept. 9

Yeah, I'm happy with my iPhone 6 but I'm definitely picking up an Apple TV and *likely* picking up the new iPad Air model.

I found it funny that with the recent Apple.com redesign, it's actually quite difficult to find an Apple TV if you want to read about or buy one. I assume this is temporary before they replace it this fall, but still hilarious.

That's debatable. If you were to compare the 5 and 5S, then yes it is a smart choice. The 5S to 6, 6 is the better choice. Really just depends what cycle you want to be on. The redesigned product with similar specs to the previous S model, or reused design that has better specs than the redesign.

The first is the relevant comparison.

I'm glad I had the 4s instead of the 4, the 5s instead of the 5, and I'm sure I'll be glad to have the 6s instead of the 6. :D

I'm still getting a new form factor every two years or so, and get the more refined versions. I'm not the first kid on the block with the new form factor (that's the people on the 4-5-6 etc. schedule), but I don't care about that.

I'm looking forward to what they announce as my upgrade date is Sept 20th. Though I guess the date is moot since Verizon is ending subsidized phones anyway.

I doubt I'll upgrade either of our Apple TVs. We just use them for Netflix, HBO Go and a couple other apps and they work fine for that. We have cable and no interest in cutting the cord (sports fans) so I don't care about any TV content options Apple comes out with. Also still fine with my iPad Air.

Now that subsidized cell phone plans are [all-but] a thing of the past I'm considering going the yearly upgrade route with Next. Haven't really crunched the numbers yet and am still in the middle of a two-year plan (I'm on the "numbered" cycle, not the "S" cycle) but I like the idea of throwing the cycle out the window.

The next Apple TV kind of has to have 4K support then right?

Agreed.

If the 6s supports 4K, it seems it would be a pretty painful oversight to leave it out of the new Apple TV.

At that point, would they merely leave it out just because iTunes has no 4K content? Would ceding that position to Netflix be that dangerous to their future prospects? The App Store hosted Spotify before Apple Music launched. Why can't the new Apple TV support 4K for Netflix users? I don't think the Netflix catalog will ever compete with iTunes, even if they do support 4K first.

Yeah. I'm still curious to see what the new one brings to the table beyond just the new remote. I'd like to see them really nail it.

The 4S and 5 have very different processors, actually. GPUs were based on the same architecture but the 5 CPU was considerably more powerful.

The 4S is more like a dual-core variant of the 4's processor than it is like the 5's.

I know they are different, way different, but they both were on the same 32bit architecture? or something like that. Not trying to pass it as a fact, just what I remember from those days. also got confused due to the 5S jumping to 64bit

The 5S having the same processor as the 6? No.

Yep, just read it, they are different, same architecture but different processors.

What you said about the processors is very very wrong.

4s->5 wasn't the same processor but modified, they are completely different. It was actually the first time their acquisition of PA Semi showed something meaningful.
The 5s and 6 too have different processors, the architecture is similar but they are not the same at all.

Yeah, researched a bit, found out I was confusing GPU and CPU, mostly because all the gpus have been from PowerVR.

anyway, my point of view was that S models fix whatever area the main model is lacking in, and getting more power on the same screen resolution means that it could last longer due to being somewhat OP compared to the og model.

I think Apple was planning to release it in June, which is why they lowered the price of the current model to 70 dollars. Target was selling them for 55 the week leading up to what was rumored to be the announcement of the new model. Cleared stock without anything to replace it with perhaps.

So this source has already been posted but this caught my eye:

Sources explained that the physical feedback given to the user with each Force Touch press has been tuned to be “nice” and “consistent” across the system.

Guess I was wrong. Seems as though haptic feedback will be incorporated into force touch.

I really hope that the first model will have 32Go ...

I saw rumor said that it's 32Go but they raise the price from 709€ to 789€ :/

That's not gonna happen. I only read one rumor about it, but factory photos clarified that. It's 16gb once again.

Btw was thinking on getting the 6S Plus but it is so cumbersome that I think I'll just get the 6S. They should totally improve ergonomics, 'cause I used a Nexus 6 for months and it was really confortable too hold. A phone so big and thin with that rounded edges is really weird on the hand. Will miss on the screen, battery and camera though. :(

I'm still using my 5. Maybe I'll upgrade soon. All I really want is a better camera and fingerprint ID. Considering I only use my phone for browsing the Internet and music functionality with iTunes and Spotify, there's not much more I really want in the next iteration. Not that I'm really expecting anything besides minor tech upgrades.

Interesting. As long as a 4" model continues to exist I'm sure people will be fine. But they'll complain about having 2-year old technology instead of 1-year old technology unless Apple bumps something up in the 5S.

I bet next year will bring a 6C with a 4" screen. If they decide to keep a 4" model. Depends on how vocal the community gets for a smaller phone. (And I know there are a lot of them on GAF.)

As long as there is no protruding camera this time I'm in. If it is the same shit I'll probably stay on my 6. Will mark a first for me cause I've always bought a new one every year starting with the 3G.

Why do you buy a new one every year?

Resale value is still good after a year. Battery also starts to suck after a year so better to get rid of it. I also enjoy having the latest gadget to play around with. In some years it was also to increase storage as I don't stream my music. This year I will go for the 128gb cause my 64gb is full.

I wonder if the camera technology they used last year has been miniaturized enough in the past 12 months for them to do it. It's the only way they'd be able to. It would have to be a camera of the same quality or better or else they won't bother. Even if they have to keep the protrusion. But getting rid of it would be nice. I like a good flush camera lens.

Cool beans.

I've upgraded from the 4s to 6 this year, so I'm probably sticking to it until the iPhone 7 or 7s. Still excited to see what they will offer with the 6s this year, although most stuff seem to have leaked at this point.

I'm on AT&T Next, so I can trade my phone in and get the 6s. Seriously debating between the regular or plus size though. Two quick questions for anyone else on Next:
- Can I preorder my phone from Apple without trading my phone in to AT&T beforehand?
- My external speaker is kind of boned on my 6. Is my AT&T trade in based on how good shape the device is in?

Either way I'm super glad I kept my 5s for emergencies.
