I’m due for a new iPhone, mostly interested in battery life, if it’s not much different from a 14 then i’ll just buy that.

Usb c adapters here we come.

Look at our camera. Here is a new made up term to make our camera seem cool.

Look at our screen here is a made up term to make our screen seem cool.

Look at our processor here is a made up word to make our processor seem cool.

I am still going to watch. 😂

Keeping mine iPhone 13 Pro till it breaks, hopefully in 4-5 years minimum. I'm too old to switch and spend money for incremental upgrades, would rather buy their VR/AR headset.

Honestly, the incremental upgrades that phones get now mean that I think most people just need a new battery, not a new phone, half the time.

I used to absolutely love it when new phones were due but now there's basically nothing they can innovate on in any meaningful way, imo. I'd be happy to be surprised and enthusiastic again but I expect this:

I have a 12 Pro Max and I'm still quite happy with it. Battery life is quite good for an almost 3 year old phone. It's at 88% health.

I might be tempted to upgrade. Apple says they'd give me £405 for my phone so I'd trade it in towards a 15 Pro Max. Based on the rumors I'm expecting a 15 Pro Max with 256GB to be about £1,500 so i'm probably going to need to cough up about £1,000 :messenger_fearful:

Have been thinking about getting an Apple Watch too so I'll definitely be grabbing a Series 9.

Both a new iPhone and Watch with Apple Care is going to be about £1800.

I never buy new smart phons since the last worthy upgrade feature was a over decade ago. I just wait till my carrier forces me to upgrade and offers me a new phone for free. Havent bought a new smartphone in over a decade.

Sounds like they are taking you for a ride. You're still paying for your phones and with interest but hey if it makes you feel better thinking about it that way...

I keep paying the same bill reguardless. This way I dont have to shill out extra for a phone upgrade I dont need nor want.

Can't you just go sim-only? Once my minimum term is paid off, I end my contract and go elsewhere / get a new deal since the monthly price includes the cost of the phone. Every month after the minimum term is wasted money!

In the long run you're paying more for your phones though. I always buy my phones outright so I'm not paying interest over 2+ years and then I get a sim only plan and pay like £10/month.

I hear ya. I shouldnt of made my post so much about me since my main point was to say these new phone "must have" features are just gimmicks and have been for long ass time now.

How are they gimmicks? The features might not be big but for someone upgrading from a 3/4/5 year old phone they could be useful to have.

You think these companies give you a phone for free? The plan your on costs them 1$ per month, if that - everything else is profit and you buying this phone steadily over the period of 24 months while guaranteeing you'll pay them for the next 24 months.

Honestly USB-C is the upgrade I’ve been waiting for but…the 12 Pro is still so good I just can’t see wanting to upgrade until it dies on me. This is the first phone I’ve had where I’m not waiting to upgrade every year or two. Maybe I’m getting old. My phone is fine.

For "some" sure. Which ones have you personally found to be a must have?
As I said in my post I have a 12 Pro Max and I'm still happy with it. I don't see much reason to upgrade but I might still do it even though my brain tells me I should wait another year. If I do get a 15 Pro Max then the features I'll be excited for are the brighter 120Hz always on display, improved camera with cinematic mode/pro res support and better optical zoom, USB-C, and a significantly larger battery capacity (~3700 to 4800mAh). Obviously nobody has a 15 Pro Max but the 14 Pro Max has ~4300mAh and that has impressive battery life.

I don't see how any of that is a gimmick. A better screen is good because well you're going to be staring at it all the time and I could really do with a brighter screen as I can hardly see it on very sunny days. If you take lots of photos then a better camera is welcome. I've been thinking about taking photography more seriously which is why I want a better camera. USB-C would be nice to have but I could live with lightning a while longer but for some people they only want to deal with one cable across all their devices. And extra battery life is always good.

For people with an iPhone X/XS/11 will have even more of a reason to upgrade. If someone is upgrading from a 14 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max then that's just fucking stupid.

I got a 14 pro max about 2 months ago for the reason that it doesn’t have usb c. I’m not against usbc at all, just all of our chargers in the house use lightning so staying on one style saved me a bunch of cash. Plus, it was on sale.

Great battery life and great screen.

I’m excited to see what old android features are “new” again.

My 12 Pro is running fine still, new update will probably trigger the forced upgrade slow down though.

Don’t forget to mention the rumoured price hike.
I've saw that it's going to be about $100-200 more for the Pro Max with rumours leaning heavily towards $200. So I guess that means £200 here in the UK. A Pro Max will likely start at £1,400 or £1,300 at least! :messenger_grimmacing_ There were also rumours that they'd bump the base storage to 256GB but it seems like they are sticking with 128GB. I'd get it if it was just the 15 but 128GB for the Pro Max is a joke because there are some features that specifically require 256GB.

USB C will be invented today!!

I prefer USB C but i get your point. Lightning cables are everywhere. I know for a fact that at my work it's much easier and quicker to find a lightning cable than a USB C if i ever forget my own at home.

There's no reason to rush out and get a USB C iPhone today. Maybe in a few years once people have upgraded and accessories transition to USB C then you'll need one.

I just bought new AirPod Pro 2 earphones and they came with lightning obviously. I knew Apple would probably release new ones soon but I needed them at that time because I had no earphones so I just got them. I've been carrying about a lightning + usb c cable for years now so i don't mind keeping a lightning cable in my bag or at home. I was actually thinking about buying a magsafe charger and ditching both lightning and USB C for iphone.

I "had" to get an iPhone 14 Pro a few months ago after my 12 broke, so I'll be skipping this year. All I really wanted was the 120hz refresh and I already have it. It will be interesting to see how Apple tries to make incremental, boring upgrades exciting ("dynamic island" is probably their apex work) or how being forced to implement a 10 year old connection standard is revolutionary.

Lightning sucks balls, i will most likely upgrade due to usb-c.
it charges my phone and airpods so i guess it does the job for me. even if i do get a 15 Pro Max i'm still going to need to use both lightning and USB-C.

maybe if i was transfering files between my iphone and PC i'd want USB-C more but i just download all my photos, videos, and files from iCloud

I’m going to hold off till next year. I charge on MagSafe anyways, plus I feel like next year will be bigger as they push the vision pro, and it would only make sense to have a new iPhone version that somehow ties into the vision pro better. Also want Apple to get rid of that damn Notch.

We actually bought some mag safe stuff and it actually works fairly well, better than expected. The car mounts are particularly good.

The iPhone 16 is rumored to come with an updated UWB antenna/chip. This is the chip that helps devices communicate with each other. For example, the U1 chip helps you precisely locate your AirTag or AirPod case in the Find My app. The "U2" chip is being added for the Vision Pro. So yeah if you want the best experience or compatibility with the Vision Pro then best hold off to the iPhone 16.

As for the dynamic island or notch then that's not going anywhere. Next year the Pro models are rumored to get a slimmer "pill" or "notch" as it seems like Apple is going to put the Face ID sensor under the display. There will still be a cutout for the selfie camera and proximity sensor.

2025 might be the year that they put all sensors under the display. Non pro models will be a year behind so 2025 for the slim "pill" and 2026 for the full screen with no cut outs.

Oh look the yearly event for the "Sheep" is almost here. So excited too see another overpriced product with barely any differences!
