Not sure what you mean but if he has a 3 then he has a iphone. Nothing wrong with Garmins as I have several but its best if you need it for a specific purpose like training stats but general use an apple watch is far superior to anything else on the market if you have an iphone.
What do you need AW for? Stats you never use? Or just as a watch - if that's the case their are nice mechanical ones around the same price.

I do competitions all the time with other people with an Apple Watch. The rings and monthly goals are actually pretty motivating for fitness, and the stats are as well. You can see your progress over time when it comes to walking/jogging/biking pace, and resting heartbeat and VO2 max stats are a pretty good indicator of fitness. Also the integration with iPhone controls are great. If you never workout or anything then I wouldn’t get one, but if you prioritize fitness, it’s a great tool.

If you prioritise fitness I don’t understand how you can pick AW over Garmin. There is a reason almost everyone at a marathon starting line is wearing a Garmin.

There’s nothing wrong with a Garmin. But I like the functionality and integrations and social aspect of the competitors with Apple Watch. But either one works.

Apple watches integrate very nicely together for texts, email, phone calls, music etc. If you haven't used on it's difficult to explain. If he has a iphone you get a apple watch. If you have a samsung phone get a samsung watch, google phone, google watch etc etc.

If you do sport you get a Garmin since your phone already does everything you mentioned.

It's nice to be able to not be attached to your phone at all times.
Leaving with just the watch is nice.

There is an area for people who are into fitness but also want a great smart watch with functionally the watches that prioritise fitness don't do. That's where there AW comes in.

Site didn't go live for me until like 8:05 or longer, but I got my confirmation emails.

Time to shop for cases. I take it the 14 cases will fit this just fine? Do I need a special case for MagSafe?

Took a few minutes to get my order through.

15 Pro Max 512GB Black Titanium

Ordered a Mous case to go with it.

Sounds like pro max pre orders slipping into October at this point.
there were rumours the camera was going to make it extremely low stock

edit: blue one is still available day 1, rest are oct 11 now. At least we know what color is the least popular.

I managed to get my order in at 23min due to the constant crashing. Had slipped to 27/9 - 2/10 delivery for the Pro Max at that point already.

Couple of more minutes would have been a disaster as we leave London on 5 Oct for six months

I got an order in but Apple don't seem to want to take my money. Can't pay for the fuckin thing lol.

I did the pre-order basket thing and paid with Apple Card. Wasn’t smooth but I should be getting both phones on the 22nd
Same and with Apple Pay but that was declined. Can't pay with my cards. Tried calling Apple but they ended the call as they are too busy.

I think every phone from here on out needs to come with 256GB minimum! With these pictures clocking in at 10s of GBs, 128 just isn't cutting it.

I need at least 512 for my next OnePlus phone... And the same for when I get an iPhone as a business phone.

I have to wait til the 16 Pro Max to get one. :(

i gave up trying to pay for my order. Spent over 2 hours on hold to apple. I got through once but the person was useless.

Cancelled it. I could try order again but dates are mid/late October now. Probably better trying my luck to see if any stock appears for pick up in store

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
makes me laugh people supposedly have no money but can spend minimum 1000 when the new iPhone carnival rolls into town.

Don’t get me wrong I’d have one myself if I was due a new one but I speak to people who supposedly have no money yet posting pics of their pre-orders on Facebook and such shite.

Debating between vanilla 15 or Pro. What made you guys go with one or the other? I’m on the iPhone X so either one is a massive upgrade.

vanilla 15 is basically just a refreshed 14 pro without "Pro" things like stainless steel body, 120hz display, always on display, and one less camera lense and no LIDAR. next year the vanilla 16 will be a refreshed 15 pro.

the only reason to get a 15 Pro over vanilla this year is if you want titanium body*, 120hz display, always on display, 3nm SoC, more RAM (8GB vs 6GB), that extra camera lense and LIDAR, faster USB-C speeds, and things like ProRes/3D spatial video if you plan on buying a Vision Pro lol.

honestly if you're coming from an X then just get the one that fits your budget. If you can stretch for the Pro then go for it but nothing wrong with saving some money going with the 15.

*titanium pro is heavier by ~16g than vanilla. so it's just a material difference. the whole point of titanium on pro this year is that it's lighter than the steel body of the 12/13/14. the 14 Pro Max was 240g and the 15 Pro Max is 221g.

What are the things i need to know before switching to an iPhone 😅?
You don't really need to know anything. Both operating systems have matured to the point it doesn't really matter which one you use. It's personal preference. Why do you not want to go with Android again?

Android is generally cheaper and gives you more freedom. iOS is more expensive, quite restricted but everything is held to a higher quality and has a tighter ecosystem. Apps are designed primarily for iOS. iOS devices will receive updates much longer than Android although Google/Samsung are improving in regards to software updates. iPhones hold value much better than Android so when it comes to upgrade you'll get a better deal. my 12 Pro Max is worth ~£400 and I've had it almost 3 years. I'll be upgrading to a 15 Pro Max so that value brings down the price by about 1/3.

Software wise if you can do it on Android/iOS you can probably do it on iOS/Android except maybe things like sideloading/installing difference operating systems. iOS in europe is probably getting sideloading but I don't know how it'll compare to Android.

It's easy to switch over all your contacts/files etc from Android to iOS. You can download the "Move to iOS" app from the play store.

$1600 for a phone? That's truly insane. I could understand if you could use it like Dex and connect it to a display to use as a Mac Lite, but just a smartphone? Wow!

lots of people use their smartphone as their one and only device. if that's all you've got and you use it daily for years then it's worth it. that goes for any phone even if it's Apple or Android.

Just upgraded to iOS 17. I highly recommend checking out the new kaleidoscope backgrounds. At first you’ll think “eh” but then when it animates you’ll think “whoa”.

I’ve been on iOS 17 for a while. Tried the beta but removed it. Downloaded it again when the RC came out.

Can’t remember what’s meant to be new. It doesn’t feel that much different.

My Apple Watch updated itself to the new WatchOS10 and oh boy does it suck!

The whole handling of the device changed and how you open apps and stuff.

I don’t like it at all

You know what qol item they should add, AirPod battery health, not life, but health like you can on iPhone. It would be nice. I think my pros are starting to heavily degrade
