Apple Event 09/12/2023 Wonderlust

Yes. My older iPhones from years ago that I still use for thots that don't like seeing green bubbles in texts (yes, there are people like this), facetime with friends, and sharing media that is lossless via text with iMessage. And keeping it on the trap. 🤭
You need less phones and more / better friends XD

Lol, the green-bubbles-shame is a major part of their stranglehold on the US.

Pretty much everyone is locked into the world where iMessage is the only way anyone communicates. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people get irritated that someone is using an Android and wants to join a group message, people will do anything to avoid it.
Is this for real? No one in DE seems to use iMessage. Its all Whats App / Signal.

Yeah base 15 in $1,129 Canadian. 14 is $999. Doesn't seem to be much difference other than USBC, probably just scoop the 14. Should be good for the next 4-5 years.

They all switched back to Apple, I was the last holdout, lol.

In all seriousness, I do real estate and other ventures, and Apple's productivity presence in my fields are far greater. Like practically 9 to 1. Will make it much easier in that sense as well.

I like the Music integration and have been using Apple Car Play far more than what comes in the cars themselves.

Thats right.
I have EU friends who all confirm the heavy use of messaging apps--but in the United States, iMessage is everything. The vast majority of Americans with phones have never even heard of the messaging platforms that are dominant in the EU.

iMessage is as big of a platform as Facebook, basically, but bigger because Facebook is now skewed to older folks. iMessage still has a hold on the young market, it just "means" texting sort of like how AOL once was stood in for the whole internet.

The blue is really nice but I also love that natural titanium color, hard to choose. Currently have a 13 Pro but I may actually get the 15 Pro Max since it apparently weighs less than the previous models and also has a slightly better camera than the regular 15 Pro.

Big reason for this is most people in EU message users in other countries, and the messages would count as international, which costs more, so they go to messengers like fb, whatsapp, viber, etc. Whereas in the US, most of calls and texts to US, Canada, and Mexico are included in your plan.

Also, SMS were sort of expensive back then, about 17 cents per message in 2009 in my country.

Whatsapp came up and said free messages on your phone! And the thing exploded.

Your camera is fine. Weight difference is negligible. Stop spending money on incremental improvements.

13 Pro will be fine for a few more years. Don't waste your money, the subtle changes are not worth the cash.

Personally I don't encounter this, except when people joke about it in a sarcastic way. What kind of superficial arseholes are living in your area? 😆

never heard of iMessage and I am an Iphone user. But I am also not an American. And when I was in Japan, I discovered that Line is the most popular messaging service over there, which I had never heard of before as well (and in turn, they had never heard of iMessage or Whatsapp either). So it seems there is actually a regional separation going on, which I find interesting.

The event today was pretty underwhelming. Oh well.

Apple is really stretching with these events by now. The improvements/upgrades are so marginal, like who really is going to be excited about any of this. These things leveled out at the iPhone X, and now it’s just “yea I need a new phone, guess I’ll get whatever is new”

I'm completely sold on the natural titanium.

Yes, it looks good. Ergonomically they have a big margin for improvement. Less weight and rounded edges is a nice step forward... my 13 Pro is an absolute brick.

I'm going to pass and wait for next year, where I think we will get a bigger step, but this is a nice upgrade.

There are some good reasons for it...

1. young people - I deeply oppose giving minors any kind of unfettered internet (frankly, that's insane) and so do many other parents; as a consequence, it's likely that a lot of kids texting each other have parental controls turned on that prevent installing unapproved apps. My kids haven't even asked for WhatsApp, but if they did, I'd be wary about not being able to see their contact list in my apple parental controls. Anything that tries to let minors have access to unknown contact is also completely insane, so I get it.

2. old people - we're on group chats with people like my own mother, and they don't want to deal with tech outside of the defaults. So when one family member doesn't have iOS and tries to chat in the group chat, it's instantly annoying... they're the only person who can't see the videos shared, or they try to share their own things and it come through in weird quality, etc. And my mother can't figure out another app to solve this for them.

I don't really care that much, but I see why it's so annoying. With iOS covering 95+% of the people you interact with, it can be a bit annoying when one person wants everyone to install a different app and move chats over into it. Not to mention that Facetime is the main video chat platform for family as well.

And a hobbled version of USB, too. At those prices, it should have been USB3 across the board.

Titanium models are a decent amount lighter.

240 grams —> 221 grams for the new Pro Max.

I'm currently using an iPhone SE (2022) and prior to that I had an iPhone 7, so this will be a significant upgrade for me personally. Those who upgrade yearly will only see marginal improvements in functionality, but I think the 15 Pro has several changes that are significant enough to upgrade again from last year's model.

Just wondering, is the Modular Ultra watch face only for the Apple Watch Ultra 2? or will it be available for the first Apple Watch Ultra too?

Substantial upgrade coming from the SE but I wouldn't say its worth it from 13/14 Pro unless you absolutely need USB-C, which isn't going anywhere..

Am I finding it kinda pedestrian on what these new iPhones are doing? Good HW but this isn't worth the upgrade.

It's been that way for at least a couple of generations and even more if all you do is use Facebook and a few other things. I just upgraded from iPhone 7s to 11 Pro Max and the difference is noticeable just like upgrading from my 2015 MacBook Pro to an M1 Macbook Pro. I doubt I would notice anything jumping from the last model to the latest. I think only people on phone plans or are bored with their lives find joy in upgrading every iteration these days.

No one is spending $60 for a mobile phone game no matter how good it is. App Store thrashed all idea of value.

Truly, at this point the app store is the definition of race to the bottom. Everyone's jumping all over themselves to try and snag the same handful of dollars
