I just realized I can watch a non-ASL stream....

Wait... There was an ASL stream? *sigh* I went through all that and my stream was barely perceptible hearing-wise and there was an ASL stream? It was basically a silent movie for me and I just to use visual clues to know what was going on. Dagnabbit!

And a hobbled version of USB, too. At those prices, it should have been USB3 across the board.
I think the reason for the usb difference is because they mentioned having a new usb chip on the pro models cpu whereas the non pro models recycle last years cpu and they didn’t want to make any tweaks at all to it?

For me, I’ll just continue to use my 12 pro for another year. The blue titanium color looks nice. I get tired of Apple preaching about carbon neutral all throughout the presentation though… I just want to see the tech.

Yeah, where did you watch it? I went directly to Apple.com. There was a hyperlink in the bottom right corner for ASL that I accidentally clicked on.

Here’s the link: https://events-delivery.apple.com/1...l_index-nFnWZveZuANrefxakLbazLHNenqfpnnX.m3u8

ASL kicks in after the opening montage.

lol apple pretending to be environmentally friendly. Container ships produce way more emissions than planes and cars.
If Apple wanted to stop pretending to care about the environment beyond having a strong black woman LARPing as Mother Nature, they would stop putting all their products in boxes which the buyer takes the product out of and immediately throws out. Real courage would be just shipping or handing you a naked product and saying 'here you go'

I think, for business, iPhones are necessary to get. At least in the US... next time I'm definitely getting a second line and getting an iPhone. Probably next year. But my OnePlus is personal. I love it so much!

Have you had the max size before? I returned my last max after 2 weeks, just uncomfortable size for a phone.
It definitely took a while to get used to, since i've always used the iPhone Pro (6.1in) model... but I really can't say no to the battery life...

That’s because the 14 pro max was stainless steel. Them only shaving off 19g goes to show that the Titanium stuff is just a glued on veneer.
As someone that uses Garmin watch that weights 53g and see endless discussions about how Epix that weights 20g more is super heavy - the argument is getting ridiculous.
The weight difference is inconsequential.

I have a regular 11 but the touch screen is busted; not cracked but randomly scrolls sometimes and often doesn’t work until i lock/unlock the phone lol

I think I’ll get a 13 or 14 in november.

I just got a Pixel 7, they're like $400 / £400 right now. A bargain for what the phone offers.
I have the Pixel 6, it is rather good, considering getting the 8 as my contract is up then but is it really that much of an upgrade to 6 because I'm not seeing anything that I would notice.

Price of the Pro is steep but I have no choice. Need a better camera. Will be quite a step up from my SE2 though.

Should keep me in business for at least 3 years then.

Buy a special cable for faster speeds. And for $130. 😂

The most apple thing ever.
Same cable MiFi-certified will be $15 from other vendors. Also special cable for faster speeds, lol.

I MIGHT look into getting a Fairphone when I will have my iPhone for 5 years, but most likely I will just get another iPhone. So far so good:
  • Bose headphones are going for 9.5 years now
  • Powerbeats Pro for 4 years

One of the best phones I ever had was the Oppo Reno 2, the one with the motorised popup 'shark fin' camera. I did a lot of media consumption, mostly films as I travelled over an hour a day on bus/train to get to work and that phone has a full screen display, practically zero bezels and no hole punch for the camera (due to the popup one). I work from home now so not as much video watching, well, YouTube, but I put up with the small hole punch of the Pixel 6

I'm quite surprised Apple didn't hike the prices. I was expecting a 15 Pro Max to start at £1.4-1.5K based on the rumours. Once I trade in my 12 Pro Max I'll be paying £824 for the 15 Pro Max. I wasn't going to upgrade this year but I'm fucking doing it.

Will also grab a Series 9 watch.

Going to wait until I can buy both in store at the same time. I can't be fucked with packing up my phone, posting it, and waiting for them to put the money in my bank so I'll just trade it in store. Also the watch sizes confuse me and I don't want to order the wrong size. I'll go into the store and get them to help me find the right size.

I'm in no rush so if I need to wait until October/November that's cool.

Very inconsequential upgrade to last year.

Do we have a bigger battery this year? / better battery life?
rumours were that the 15 Pro Max would have a ~4800mAh battery. the 14 Pro Max i think has ~4300mAh. the 15 Pro Max is slightly thicker so there is some room for more battery.

All this discussion about the minor advancements between models, environmental impacts and also cost has made me think about getting fully onboard with just keeping hold of my phone for as long as possible.

I might get a battery replacement done at the 2 year mark and try and ride it out for another 2 years.

By far the best thing you can do for the environment is to keep using the phone you have, and this goes for anything. Not what Apple or Google or Samsung or anybody wants to talk about, but their business model relies on selling "Malibu Stacey now with a new hat" every single year. Earlier this year I took my iPad Pro 2018 which was still more than enough for me to Apple because it wasn't holding a charge anymore. They said they wouldn't fix it and would charge me like $500 to replace it with the same model, or of course I could just buy a new one...

Obviously all this talk of environment is garbage.

There are some things that might keep me with apple. Airdrop is nice to share photos with wife. I use AirPods almost all day and it’s slightly better with a iPhone. AirTag as well. MagSafe is rad for car mounts. But I’m sure an android case will make it work. The big thing is Apple Pay with face recognition is something I didn’t realize I needed. Makes fingerprint reader on android seem like janky trash. Hopefully android gets that

I agree completely, I am trying to buy less stuff across the board - not making it in the first place is a million times better than making it of recycled metal or claiming to be able to recycle it easily.
Once you think about it, you realise how constant wasteful extravagance has become a way of life for so many people. Phones are the tip of the iceberg once you start looking at clothes and other items people consider borderline disposable.

I think trying to buy what'll last, even if it's more expensive, and only if I actually need it is a better way to go, rather than just amassing more and more shit.

The mixing and matching of random different specs to sound the most impressive until you squint at the details has also gone off the rails lol. 30% faster Watch GPU! 60% more Watch CPU transistors! Waait, I bet the latter performance gain is smaller than the former if they said it that way lol

Ray tracing, cool. That should mean M3 safely gets it. Is it me or is 4xing slow software path ray tracing super underwhelming though? Isn't the RTX speedup over previous GPUs without acceleration huge? Maybe bandwidth or power limited on the gain.

The gap they held for almost a decade is vastly shrunk as well, the SD8 Gen 2 CPU wasn't that far, and the GPU was actually better than the A16. Not like some years past where they held 2x single core. It was bound to happen with everyone running into dwindling return as all the low hanging fruit on mobile CPUs is gone, but I had wondered if 3nm leadership would let them make another gap.

With these small gains even with a new node to work with, seems like we're going to get more into slow leapfrog, rather than Apple massively leading from A7-A15. I'm sure most people won't give a hoot and all flagship phones are really fast enough for most now, I'm just always curious about the chip side of things

Trying to determine if it's worth upgrading from Watch 3 to 9....

I have a Series 7 and will upgrade to Ultra, but that's because they're so cheap there in the US, in my country Apple stuff can easily cost double the US MSRP.

I usually travel to US once a year and upgrade everything I can.

Thats the exact upgrade I'm doing. My wife just recently went from a 3 to an 8 and it was worth it to her. The bigger screen is noticeable, the brightness is very noticeable and the speed difference is noticeable.

Anyone know if its better to do a Verizon upgrade or just go strait through apple for 2 new 15 Pros?

Yeah I ended up googling it. No clear answers, but recent rumours suggested that the 15 Pro max would not get a 4800 after all.

It's probably true, because I imagine Apple would have mentioned it otherwise

Was going to wait until I could go into the store as I didn't know what watch strap size to get but fuck it. I've preordered a 45mm Series 9 with the M/L straps. I don't like any of the straps except the rubber sports band and i'm not a fan of any of the colours so just went with all midnight look.

UVefVN0.jpg

Did think about getting the Ultra 2 but i prefer the design of the standard watch and the Ultra 2 doesn't come in a dark grey/midnight/black. Looking at the specs it doesn't have anything that is a must have for me. The extra battery would've been nice but oh well 🤷‍♂️

Have also done the "get ready for preorder" in the Apple Store app so i can checkout quicker tomorrow when the iPhone pre order goes live. I'm getting a 15 Pro Max with 256GB in Black Titanium

NilX2RO.jpg

I quite like the natural and white titanium but i just love going all dark. 256GB is more than enough for me. On my 12 Pro Max I've still got 214GB free out of 256GB. I only have a few games downloaded and I do take some photos/videos but I regularly download them from iCloud to store on my PC and back up to my external drive. I rarely download movies or music for offline playback. I really can't see me getting close to maxing out 256GB. The only reason I went with 256GB with the 12 Pro Max was because I could afford it and knew I'd get a bit more extra when trading it in. Could've done that this time but I don't really care.

The Apple watch is saying delivery by 22nd. Hope I can get a 15 Pro Max order in before dates start slipping!

Will be trading in my 12 Pro Max. Apple is saying they'll give me £375 which I think is quite good. I had a look at what C.E.X would pay and it was <£300 and I checked eBay but it doesn't seem like it's worth it when taking into consideration fees and postage. I'd probably get less than £375. Of course, Apple could receive my phone and change the price but the phone really is in good condition. I've had it in a case with screen protector since I got it. It does have some minor scuffs mostly around the charging port but it's working perfectly fine and has no dents/scratches.

Total cost is £1,628. After trade in it'll be £1,253. I'll hold of buying AppleCare+ until the 30 days are almost up. There's no point getting it straight away when you can wait 30 days and have it start from that date instead. That'll be £258 for both the iPhone and Watch.

Need to buy a new case and screen protectors. Sticking with the liquid Spigen cases.

You can do Apple Care+ in UK at least on a rolling monthly basis now, to avoid hefty up front and long commitments
I know but I can't be fucked with having a charge for each device coming out every month (iPhone/AirPods/Watch and maybe a Mac soon). I prefer to pay for things upfront. I've never really been a person to pay for things over time. If I can't afford to buy in full then I won't buy it at all. Never had a phone on contract I always buy them. Its more upfront yeah but less interest.

The only things I pay monthly are my rent and utilities like energy/internet etc. Even my Spotify I pay for in full. I've already paid it up to December 2024 instead of having it come off every month. My audible I bought the annual plan too. My car insurance I just paid off the full year there. The only subscription I pay for is my iCloud+ storage which is only £1/month lol.

So yeah whenever I can prefer to pay in full upront. AppleCare+ monthly would be interesting if I could pay for 2 years then keep paying monthly. I'm not paying every month for 2 years just so I can maybe pay it monthly for just another year. I never keep my phone more than 3 years.

What's your use case?
Not sure what you mean but if he has a 3 then he has a iphone. Nothing wrong with Garmins as I have several but its best if you need it for a specific purpose like training stats but general use an apple watch is far superior to anything else on the market if you have an iphone.
