Apple holding special event Oct. 16 (new iPads, iMacs, and Yosemite)

Hopefully Apple releases an iPad with Yosemite on there. Cause unless they do that, their iPad division will just keep henmoraging money. There are just better options these days, unfortunately.

The difference between the money Apple makes on tablets and what competitors bring in is painful to watch. It's not as bad of as the iPhone, but it's an ass whoopin that should make anyone hold their head in shame.

very nice. Hopefully storage and prices are like the iphones. 16/64/128

Hope so. This and a RAM update would make it a must buy for me. I want a 64GB and I was pleasantly surprised when that size got knocked down a price tier on iPhone.

Multitasking would help too. OS X/multitasking or the iPad will remain useless.

Is iPad losing money? It's market leader and I got the impression that laptops and desktops are taking a bigger hit from full OS tablets than mobile OS tablets are.

So according to a motherboard leak, the iPad SoC is once again an "X series", A8X. I guess it's just to market the higher RAM then, but would be neat to see graphics upgrades again. (Could maybe be that 6-core version of the 4-core Imagination GPU used in the A8, of course.)

Edit: So I guess this GPU upgrade could depend on its usability for the split-screen multitasking. Which could sort of be the case also, I would guess? Probably not as critical as the RAM, but might be useful enough to have 2 extra cores? Maybe GPU-taxing UIs are more commonplace than I imagine.

Split screen would force an update from me I think. GAF plus giantbomb side by side is too much to ignore. I know you can get browser apps that do that now, but they aren't perfect

I guess most of the tension right now is if they even announce split-screen during this event, or it's still too unfinished. But pretty easy hardware seller I guess.

I'm then mostly curious, I think, of how quickly developers adopt it. There will be quick-moving big players of course, like Evernote, Facebook and such, but after this initial surge, it'll be interesting to see if developers have any interest in quickly supporting this (allegedly) single-model feature. Apparently, the UI creations tools have become very flexible and easy to use, though.

Edit: ... So if they do NOT announce split-screen here either, I guess it's more likely there's a GPU boost also, if graphics power is apparently an easier sell without presenting any actual usage function (judged by how they've always sold on GPU numbers, but never RAM numbers.) lol.

Likelihood of the new iPad working with the current covers? Going to put my air up for sale to see if I can upgrade for limited cost (especially if they skip 32GB again and 64 is the same price as the current 32). Just wondering whether to sell with the cover or not. Ipad is mint but covers inevitably get a bit worn - any my product red one is a bit grubby now.

I have an iPad Air after a 4 after a 3.

This will be the first time I don't upgrade in a while if they don't introduce split-screen. With my 6 Plus, I'm just not using my iPad as often.

Rumor is that the new Air will have the same dimensions in height and length but be significantly thinner, so I'd imagine that the cover would work with the new one just fine.

As I understood it, those newer all-fabric attachment pieces on the covers already have a bit more attachment point tolerance than the older iPad 2-style ones, so if the depth reduction is really only 0.4 mm, I guess that should certainly work? (Unless the curvature of the side changed notably or something - doesn't look like it)
