I'm stuck in the "picking" stage; seriously can't figure out what model to get, ugh. I want to direct some a general question to you iPad 2 owners: how "easy" is it to fill up the space on it? What's wiser, going with a 16/32 GB model or splurging the cash for a Wifi-only 64 GB model?

64 is only really necessary if youre going to have a ton of movies on there all at once and take it out of the house a lot.
remember, while on your home network, you can use home sharing to stream all your music and iTunes videos to the device.
16 GB is a little crammed if you plan to have more than a dozen 500 MB or so games on it and if you have any interest in monthly or weekly magazines, they can take up around 200 to 600 MB each.

I filled up my 16gb iPad 1 with so many games and apps that I went for the 32 gb the second time around. But 16gb is still enough, it will just be a hassle if you have a lot of stuff. Active management. A good tip is to leave all your music on just your phone. Since you probably won't take many photos with it, that saves space as well.
But I think iOS 5 will make it a lot easier--you can just delete apps, photos and music off your device and restore them much more quickly if you decide you need it back without having to connect back to your computer.
New Yorker app works just like every other Adobe Platform published iPad magazine. except file sizes are smaller (~150 MB) since its a smaller weekly mag.
swipe left to right to advance sections. up and down to read an article. theres less wackiness in the New Yorker than there is with, say, Wired which uses the same publishing platform but has more embedded videos and interactive tappable bits and bobs.
I have no issue with the speed or layout of these apps - they work OK for me. worst parts about them are the large file sizes and the lack of text interaction. I.e. no text selection or accessibility features as its all a big image.

I already have a 64 GB iPod Touch (3rd gen w/o retina) and a 16 GB iPhone 4, so it's safe to say that I won't listen to much music on the iPad when I get it. But I assume I can also stream music without any issues, not just videos, right?
Also, I have a minor follow-up question: how handicapped do you actually feel when you don't have a 3G-equipped model and you want to take the iPad out of your home? Are there many cool applications where 3G is essentially... essential?

To your first question: You can stream music with something like Zumocast, but it actually seems like there are less options for music streaming apps compared to video streaming just in general.
In that case you're right about ZumoCast, but I believe they took it down. It's no longer on the app store.

I do like keeping most of my apps on my iPad. And I do buy a lot of games (I can't resist picking up games when they drop to free or 99 cents, even if I'm only slightly interested in them. As such I've amassed well over 32gb of games/applications in the past couple of months. If you've more restraint than me, or aren't interested in iPad games, 32gb will probably be more than enough (unless you plan to go nuts with video/music on the device).

After one day, i couldnt take it anymore. These things suck. They feel like garbage, like touching a restive screen made of crap. It's balled up in the trash can where it belongs, and my screen feels good again. Seriously, crappy crap crapola. Why do people ruin their iPads with this stuff?

They can vary greatly for the iPad. The invisible shield-type that are water sealed are terrible. Also, the matte anti-glare ones make the screen much different, too.Tobor said:

So - I've been scoping out tables for a little under a month now and I'm looking to pull the trigger on a black 32GB iPad 2. Thing is, I don't really want a smart cover (I'll probably never use it), but I do want a nice sleeve/pouch to store it in. It will mostly spend all of it's time in my backpack to and from work. I want to keep it as pristine as possible.

Check out Tuff-Luv. I think the hemp cases look awesome -- they're fully protective (whilst still allowing access to both cameras), they can be used as a stand in both portrait and landscape orientations, they have magnets which mimic the smart cover's functions, and they're 100% animal-free (which makes the vegetarian in me feel warm and fuzzy). Attention iPad2 owners with a smart cover. Make sure to take off your cover and check to see if any metal debris has stuck to the long magnetic rail that attaches to the iPad. A tiny metal filing got in between the rail and my iPad and slowly scratched through the entire outside finish. Bummer

I find the only screen protector worth using is Power Support Crystal, most people don't even notice that it's there. There certainly is a reason to use one, it makes me breathe a lot easier when I toss the iPad to a guest or to one of my kids knowing it won't get scratched up.
I think the main problem with moving the iPad releases later is that it takes a while to build up capacity for them, and a fancy super high res screen won't help that. By launching earlier in the year they (hopefully) have enough capacity around the world by the time holiday season rolls around.numble said:

I dunno, man. I've seen what happens to the screen without a protector if it comes into contact with nails. If you have a girlfriend/wife that uses your device- look out. For obvious reasons sheet music books are pretty tall and never fit in reasonable distant spaced shelves. Going digital will solve that dilema.
Just checked a few apps and someone has been cool enough to code a free sheet music pdf view app that has an iPhone app to use for page turning.
