Is it possible to rename PDFs saved on your iPad via the device itself or through iTunes? A file I downloaded for school is named a bunch of nonsense and I want it organized.
I know you can in GoodReader. I have a feeling iTunes allows it too, but cannot confirm at the moment.

While I had already checked iTunes, your post inspired me to check the "Books" section, which I had never had a reason to look at before. You can indeed rename stuff like you would a song in that section.

Jailbreakme.com is live again for jailbreaking 4.3.3, including iPad 2.
trying this in about an hour.

sad thing is, hearing that peggle looks great with retinapad is the only reason I'm bothering....

Can someone make me understand how it works? I heard it's a paid app, how exactly do I pay for it since it's not on appstore? (never used a jailbroken device before)

So to jailbreak you just go to the website and click a link? What does it do, just install an app that contains the new OS?

Aralon is essentially a Morrowind clone. Should be what you're looking for. There's also Avadon, which is a turn-based RPG much like Balder's Gate. I know the names are confusing. You might also want to get Civilization Revolution for a game that'll last you a long time.
Cheers, mate... this is exactly what I'm looking for. Aralon seems like an interesting hybrid of Classic EQ and Morrowind, which is right up my alley.

Turn Your iPad 2 Into A MacBook Air (with video!) yet another keyboard attachment.

How durable-feeling are iPads? If I got one with a leather smart cover would I be able to take it to classes in a backpack? Or do most people get more protective cases for carrying them around?

I don't feel it's needed. I use a felt bag that came with a notebook just in case. Just don't carry it in the same pocket as your keys.

That's what I do. Just a smart cover and it goes straight into my backpack.

My experience with the smart cover is a disaster. I absolutely loathe it. You may enjoy it. Here are my issues:

* It comes off EASILY. I mean, any kind of torsion and it pops off.
* The "stands" are both just exactly inadequate for their intended purpose - vertical is too unstable and horizontal is angled too flat.
* The "lines" on the screen are quite real and quite distinct. I don't care, but they are there.
* It's ridiculously expensive.

The two good things are that it's elegant in appearance and the magnetic lock activation is neat.

Just got one of these from work. Installed Dead Space, played for 5 minutes. Browsed GAF. Put it down.

What do you guys recommend I download from the appstore?

Your other complaints are valid, but something must be wrong with either your case or iPad, because I have to physically exert a reasonable amount of energy before the smart cover actually comes off.

It's supposed to come off easily. If you can't suspend your iPad in the air on the magnetic hinge when just holding the cover, then yours is faulty.

The two angles that the stand create are perfectly adequate. I mean... the vertical is a similar angle to most of my picture frames, and the typing angle is at a much greater angle than any physical keyboard I've ever used. How much more of an angle do you want? The only unstable position is if you try to stand it up in its portrait orientation. Still doable but it's not been designed for this.

You speak of the lines on the screen as if they're a damaging mark. They're only the bits of finger grease that haven't been in contact with the underside of the cover. It wipes off easily, and then you start using it, creating more grease. The three lines of grease are no uglier than an iPad entirely convered in prints. In fact, it's just doing some of the cleaning for you.

Apple products are expensive, news at 11. The iPad itself is ridiculously expensive.

2nd iPad, second case. The minimum deliberate torsion required to make it pop off is a light scissor movement of ring finger and thumb - pop! This also happens accidentally when putting in a second case or a bag. I CAN pick it up by the case, but the slightest shake and it comes off. Not that I recommend that.

And it's unfair to call it a case, which to be fair, Apple does not - this is effectively a very expensive screen protector. I should have spent a few more minutes tinkering with it, or believed the reviews on amazon.

You're nuts, the smart cover rules. The stand is great, the tension is working exactly as advertised, my screen is nice and clean with a quick slide of the cover, and the leather is aging nicely.

I did end up picking up an $11 smart cover compatible back cover from Amazon. The combination of the two is brilliant.

"iPad HD" supposedly coming this Fall with double the resolution. From Joshua Topolsky:

Our sources are saying that not only will there be a newly designed iPhone coming in the fall, but there is going to be a new entry into the iPad family as well. As hard as it might be to believe, the new tablet is said to sport a double resolution screen (2048 x 1536), and will be dubbed the “iPad HD.” The idea behind the product is apparently that it will be a “pro” device aimed at a higher end market — folks who work in video and photo production possibly — and will be introduced alongside something like an iPad version of Final Cut or Aperture. This product is specifically said to not be the iPad 3, rather a complimentary piece of the iPad 2 line. Think MacBook and MacBook Pro.

That would solve half my problems with it. But come on, it's not like I am an outlier. Lots of people hate it for the same reasons as me. Also RAGE at HD iPad. I would love a touch based Final Cut. :-(

Um why would it make sense to release an iPad HD only 6 months after the iPad 2? Does that mean they won't release an iPad 3 in March, or will they make the iPad go on a 6 month revision cycle?

I really don't see a reason for them to rush out a new iPad. The iPad 2 is still selling really hot and the iPad 2 has no competitor even close in sales or consumer appeal.

Did you even read the article? It's another product line. It's like saying "why would they release the MacBook Pro, they already have the MacBook."

But how will they support 2 product lines? Will the iPad become the low end model then, since it'll continue to have the half resolution? If they give the iPad 3 or 4 the Retina display, won't it remove the main differentiator between the lines, making the iPad HD line pointless as a seperate product line?

So it won't replace the iPad, that sucks. I want that screen for $499.
what do you think the cheapest iPad 'Pro' will be priced? (in comparison the cheapest macbook/air is priced at $999 while the cheapest macbook pro is priced $200 more)

the screen might will not be the only differentiator. Apple will definitely need to up the RAM, at the very least, if they want it to run versions of Aperture and Final Cut at that resolution.

But what will the Pro tier have that the regular tier won't once the regular line also gets the Retina display? Because they certainly can't keep producing a tablet line with 1024x768 once the competitors all go up to Retina level displays, and Apple won't jump their Pro line to 4096x3072 resolution since it probably wouldn't even produce a noticeable upgrade from a 2048x1536.

I will assume the gpu will go to 8 cores in order to drive the display at native resolution with out a performance hit.

Not all their competitors will go up. Some of their competitors will stay at the resolution and lower the price instead.

Apple was running a 320x480 resolution while everybody else was using a 480x800 resolution on phones.

They can get away with leaving the ipad res as-is for a good while.

But if they just make the iPad HD or Pro line just 1 generation ahead of the normal iPad, how does that differ from the current strategy of selling last year's model at a reduced price to offer a lower tier? It doesn't, it just accelerates the time table.

It kind of seems like a bad stop-gap product idea to me. The "iPad HD" name will only cause confusion with people thinking the regular iPad 2 can't play back HD videos or whatever.

Which back cover did you get?
Though I could have sworn you were against that sort of thing.

Every Apple line except the iPhone and iPad has tiers. Makes sense, honestly.

Mac mini -> iMac -> Mac Pro
Macbook -> Macbook Air -> Macbook Pro
iPod shuffle -> iPod nano -> iPod classic -> iPod touch

A quadrupled number pixels means big-time developer headaches. I tend to think rumors that include things that would greatly impact the developer base as being iffy if there are not coinciding developer leaks (2046 images in the sdk aside).
