I was thinking the same. Though apparently TfL are really against things like that. Could work with contactless payment being used alongside Oyster starting next year though.

Yeah, don't try making your own:

I'd take NFC in my smartwatch that would work on the tube as an oyster card. I know they are working to get that into phones but that is one area where having your ticket on your wrist would be helpful.

Yes, and for concert tickets, movie tickets, plane tickets, all that. Super-helpful.

Also agree about the big data comments. Tracking steps taken and pulse for example is much more powerful if you do it all the time, rather than just when you remember to take your pedometer etc with you. That is something that will take time to filter through but will definitely be valuable longer term.

I'd like to think that that will be a big part of the presentation - pedometers are only good if you remember to put them on in the morning AND remember to take them off or don't throw them in the wash as so many people do. With a wrist-worn device you don't have that issue. You could put it on and more or less forget about it.

Aside from battery life itself a big question for me will be how long it takes to get to a full charge. Is this going to be something I have to leave on a nightstand all night or could it get a full charge in the time it'd take just to get ready in the morning. If they had a battery that lasts 2 days and takes 15-30 min to charge fully - it'd be perfect. :D Especially if they're also thinking that this will be a sleep tracker of any sort, charging quickly and lasting at least 36 hrs on a charge is going to be key.

Wondering how they'll let you interact with this thing - if it'll be all or mostly Siri or if you'll be able to do quick-replies that you set via the screen.

You know, I'd kind of consider a 5.5" if I were replacing both my phone and my iPad at once. But I don't really think I'd want to carry a large phone around like that. I'd have to see it in person when it comes out. I'll probably just end up going 4.7" and keeping my iPad mini. Either way I'm eager to see both. I hope they do at least show off the 5.5" and maybe some exclusive features it might get like split-screen. Those things are going to make my 5C look tiny.

I love all this discussion, by the way. Good to know we don't have to wait long for it all to be revealed too. It'll be really interesting to see what gets announced tomorrow. I'll almost definitely be picking up a 6 at some point soon as my 4 is getting painfully slow, so I'm ready to Apple to sell me on it and get the hype levels up. Hopefully we'll see something new on top of what we already know.
You still have a 4? You are going to be rocketed into the future with a 6. My girlfriend went from a 4 to a 5s and was amazed at how much faster it was.

Anything more on that KGI rumour that the new iPads may make an appearance tomorrow?

That's the only thing I've seen on it. There is some dummy units floating about, but we probably would've seen more parts/finished units if it was out soon.

They might announce it tomorrow for a early Oct release.

Things are even worse in Toronto.

We're still using metal tokens.

I expect mobile devices to be supported sometime around 2042.

The iPad graph is pretty interesting, too.

Lots of old iPad 2s out there. Shows people are much slower to upgrade iPads than iPhones.

It's actually more of a show of how ridiculous Apple was to keep the iPad 2 around for so long.

Keep in mind, up until very recently, if you didn't want the latest iPad model, the "downgrade" was the iPad 2. Where I work we just recently got iPad 4's in to replace iPad 2's. People were willing to go 3 generations old to save $100, just for the sake of having an iPad. It was ridiculous.

I have both a 5.5" OnePlus One and an iPhone 5. I find myself hardly using the iPhone because it seems so small to me at this point. I'll end up buying an iPhone 6, but don't think I could do smaller than the 5.5" model. By the way, I find a phone that big fits perfectly fine in my pants pocket.

I pretty much only use my iPad mini for videos these days. I don't know if I'd be able to watch on a smaller screen than the 8" I have now. But I'd like to see it in person. I don't think I know anyone who even owns a phone that size. I did see someone with a 7" Phablet in the wild once but that's it. As long as it's not so huge that I can still take it with me, but not so small that watching TV and movies on it is terrible (I've actually propped my iPhone up in front of my 15" laptop display and watched videos there before. It's like a picture in picture so the size isn't too much of a problem.) I'd consider the 5.5" as a complete replacement hands down.

I need to find that comparison chart that shows all the screen sizes Apple's used for their iOS devices with the new 4.7" and 5.5" mixed in.

The only problem I'd have is apps I own that only have HD versions. I don't understand why Apple never forced developers to use the Universal feature. Instead they gave them the option to offer separate versions at separate prices. Bullshit. There's no reason the same exact game on the iPad shouldn't have cost the same on the iPhone. No reason at all the HD version of Angry Birds had to cost $5 vs. $1 on the phone. It's the same fucking game. I'll have to purchase the iPhone versions of the AB games I don't have on iPhone.... if I even care about the game franchise anymore at least. /rant

That iPad chart is amazing. It means nearly 50% of iPads are running on iPad 2 internals. Will they force support to stop after iOS 8?

keep in mind Apple kept selling that damn ipad 2 until recently. it was the cheapest way to get a 10" ipad until just this May!

According to Macotakara, the 4.7-inch model will be known as “iPhone 6″ while the 5.5-inch version will be called the “iPhone 6 Plus.” Apple has not used the “Plus” suffix for a product before, so that would be a first. This naming convention does not seem incredibly likely, but Macotakara did indeed accurately predict the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c names last fall. Leaning toward iPhone 6 being at least one of the two names is that the EXIF data shared by the “reviewer” of leaked 4.7-inch iPhone 6 hardware refers to the device as the iPhone 6.

I like plus (or +) better than L.

Poor ipad 3rd gen owners. Probably not upgrading out of spite.

Since ipad is almost like a mini computer in usage and there are no contracts, it makes sense that people upgrade far less frequently. There is no real reason a new version needs to come out every year

I am so hyped for tomorrow omg.

So am I, just because this is the first time I actually need a phone during an iPhone launch. In the past I really didn't need to upgrade, but I would just because. Now I legit don't have a phone (as I just broke it 3 weeks ago). Going that long without a phone has me starving.

Guys. Guys. There is literally just over 24 hours left. Holy shit guys. Please please talk about the phone first. (I'm sure they will. Even though everyone knows about the watch, they'll still want to leave that for the end.)

The more important question - is the wearable going to be iWatch, iPod, iWrist, iTrack, iMeter, iBracelet or something totally different? I kinda like the re-use of the iPod name if they were to go in that direction. That was never specifically music, it's generic yet familiar enough to work.

Yes, but the iPod name has been embedded into people's minds over the years as a music device... if you call the iWearitonmywrist device an iPod that might throw people off...

I am good with iWatch or iTime.

Woo less than 24 hours left! Can't wait for the conference! :D

I really hope they have better sound in this ones hate how Tim Cook sounds like a robot whit his voice :/

A new report [Google Translate] from French site iGen.fr claims Apple may begin selling both of its iPhone 6 models at the same time. According to the report, which is based on the same source who accurately predicted previous Apple product launches, the two models would go on sale starting Friday, September 19. That has been the most widely expected date for the first wave of launches given Apple's previous announcement and launch patterns.

The iPad 2 was the first iPad to get dangerously close (but not QUITE there) to something that could replace a computer for a lot of people. It's great for web surfing, email, and some of the (in 2014) less intense apps that are out there. I kept mine until I got the Air, when it became clear that I wanted something that could actually be used for real "work" if I didn't have my laptop handy.

It being noticeably lighter was also a nice fringe benefit.

Only if it worked without power though, as being trapped in central with no power and no oyster sounds awful.

What are apple's trade-in prices like in-store? I've got a 64gb iPhone 5 that still works fine but has a crack in the screen at the top near the earpiece and a bunch of dents/scratches. I doubt I can sell it for anything good privately, could I get $200+ from Apple if I traded it in towards the iPhone 6?

Anyone has experience with a 5+" phone, im curious about the 5.5 model, but i think it wont fit in my pocket, kinda defying the whole phone thing.

I want to be surprised with a prettier design for the iPhone 6 but I know this seems highly unlikely at this point.

I hope Virgin gets both models early too. I might actually want to upgrade before Christmas despite only having gotten my 5C in May. I might have to take advantage of their trade-in service.
