Apple Watch |OT| Apple invents the watch!

Anybody know how to change the search engine on the Watch to Google or Yahoo?

If you ask Siri to "show me pictures of Lady Gaga". Then it gets its results from Bing.

There's no real settings for Siri on the watch or the phone now. Now you have to say "google pictures of lady gaga".

The search engine on the iphone used to change both safari AND siri. Now it just changes safari. It sucks because I think Bing is a pretty crap search engine.

Ahh thanks for that.

Over at Macrumors they got a thread on 3rd party bands with the Apple Watch.

This is a HOCO Gold Stainless Steel bracelet with a Space Grey Sport. The HOCO is only around £18 from eBay.

Thinking of getting a Space Grey Apple Watch with a Milanese Loop and am thinking of getting that plated in something, either gold or black rhodium.

Thing is I can't decide which, because I'm not sure if a gold band is going to be a bit OTT for work etc.

What do you guys think? If gold isn't too over the top for work then I'll go for that, but if it is I'm gonna probably go with black rhodium.

go for the black. A mismatched, shiny gold or silver doesn’t work with the embedded lugs that slide into the case, imo.

big nope from me :|

it’d be fine with a gold plated watch, though

Space Grey Sport with a black Milanese Loop looks pretty awesome.

Ebay have this black Milanese 3rd party loop for cheap.

The black will be shiny too though, black rhodium looks like this

I'm tempted by the gold just because black and gold is a great contrast, although granted it would look better if it was the space black stainless steel and gold.. But hell no am I paying for that.

This is also an option:

Palladium.jpg

Black and white might be cool? Not sure how "white" palladium looks in person though, if it's just silvery then who cares.

Yeah the issue with the space gray is...pretty much what you see in the pic posted earlier. I've seen others where it looks better cause it looks darker, but in shots like that one the lighting isn't friendly to it, especially if you're going for a contrasting metal look.

Could be cool (with the space gray caveat above), but yeah I'd be curious what it looks like. There's different levels of "silvery", like it could be distinctly different and lighter the plain stainless color while still being noticeably a silvery metal.

Perhaps to combat the thinking many have that "the Apple Watch has no apps," Apple debuted some new 15 second TV spots today.

More here - http://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/27/apple-three-new-apple-watch-app-videos/

I think that's pretty good. I would imagine they'll do more categories later too like social media, productivity, and entertainment (remote, Hulu, CNN, etc.).

Surprised they would adverise apps, at a state where they are borderline unusable, because of the very long loading times

Yeah I'm erring towards Palladium now, it's one of the "whitest" metals, a lot lot whiter than stainless steel, so that might contrast well.

Some are getting there. Soundcloud is good and responsive. Overcast is ok, but it is quick. Lightbow is very responsive.

These are very simple apps that essentially are just remote controls but they quick to load and while not perfect and slightly annoying they are usable.

Idk. Things seem to be getting there.

The two third party apps that have worked well for me on the wrist are “Deliveries" and “parkit”.

in both cases, it’s easier to use than taking out the phone and they’re stable and I can get in and out of them fast. It’ll be great when they run natively and load faster.

but outside of that…eeehhh. I’m not having much luck with 3rd party watch apps yet.

Saw the link bracket at the Apple Store today. It's seriously beautiful but the $450 price is just insane, the only way I'd buy it if there was 50% discount on that band

What's the porn scene like with the Apple Watch? I'd buy one if I can discreetly watch porn

No good, sir.

Apple Watch doesn't have a web browser.

You can look at your static pics using the Photos app. And videos can be viewed if they are sent to you in iMessage.

Been using the "where I left off" setting for activate on wrist raise.

I think I like it a lot more.

I've just been watching 'This Morning' on ITV, a morning two hour magazine style show that's on in the UK from Monday to Friday.

And two of the presenters on screen at the same time wearing an Apple Watch. One wearing a 42mm Stainless Steel with black leather strap, the other with a 42mm Stainless Steel with Milanese Loop.

I think it's something that'd vary in usefulness for me. Some I'd want to stay open until I'm done like a shopping list, but there's others where I just want to check something then close it. If nothing else though I imagine it'd help with the apps that take too damn long to load.

And how I feel about that stuff will probably change with OS 2 with the complications and little change to the home screen button action (where it goes straight back to the clock face instead of centering on the clock icon first). Hopefully won't need to go to the home screen as much, and if I do it'll be quicker to get out of it.

Just a heads up for anyone who likes the style of the Apple black classic buckle.

The hoco brand classic buckle strap in black is very nice. I got mine today. paid around 35 CAD for it. Good quality buckle (proper indent for the tang), soft leather and good lugs. leather isn’t as thick as the apple strap ( based on memory) but it’s fairly close. I think the grain might be a bit more pronounced on the hoco

Considering Apple’s $150 price for a simple black leather band, the hoco version is well worth the money if you want the same styling (it’s the buckle design that I really like)

Note that I had also got some other brand's 15 dollar strap in the same style and it was total garbage. super thin pleather crap with no texture that felt way worse than even a cheap rubber or plastic band. plus the buckle was poorly made.

So, anyway, hoco seems like a safe bet for their version of the classic buckle. I recommend getting the one with the silver buckle and not the gold version. that would clash, imo.

Tried on the link bracelet at the Apple Store and its the first link bracelet to not pull my arm hairs, after I adjusted the links to perfectly fit my wrist

God forgive me if I spend $450 on this

You got the stainless steel Watch, I'm presuming. What strap did it come with?

Couple new features in watchOS b5:

- The newly-added Quick Play button in Music works like a Shuffle All Songs button, starting music playback on your iPhone without needing to dig through menus to choose a song or artist.

- redesigned the Now Playing screen (and updated the Now Playing glance to match); the screens include a circular volume level indicator in the center, with “Love Song” and “Remove Song” buttons off to the sides.

- New Paris, France, time-lapse in a tranquil scene showing the Eiffel Tower to the left of the screen. Unlike prior iterations, which blasted you in the eyes with rapid-fire video, Apple has slowed all of the Timelapse displays to show a short burst of video that gradually slows down. It appears that the displays are keyed to the current time where you’re located.

- The Modular watch face now contains color labels to show off the Multicolored display.

"Remove song" looks like a poor choice of iconography (and just a weird action to include) if that description is correct.

Nothing weird about having an option to like, unlike, or dislike a recommended song.

When you tap this button, the dialing asks if you want to remove it from your library entirely. Seems like a bit of an extreme option. Not sure why it deserves a button.

Liking a song is the heart. That totally makes sense.

I was offered an apple watch. I'm into running and was curious to know how it handles itself in that department. Are there any good apps that monitor the heart rate? A few weeks ago I read that only the apple app does that.

I believe right now only the apple apps can access live heart rate data but third party apps will be able to with watchOS 2.

I've been wearing my 38mm SS for two weeks now and I just don't understand the hate this watch gets.
I absolutely love this little thing, I actually really prefer the understated look of the 38mm as a man wearing it and I'm looking forward to OS2.

Never noticed this before so I'm not sure if this has always been there or if it's new with Watch OS 2.

IMG_2304.PNG

Has the Now Playing glance always shown the name of the app it's playing from in the top right? Realized this week I could tap it and go to Overcast, which has made the Overcast glance itself a bit redundant. So - new in Watch OS 2 or was that always there and I just didn't see it?

Tested it right now with Pandora, just shows the track info. But tapping that goes to the relevant app so that part isn't new.
