Apple Watch |OT| Apple invents the watch!

How is Siri for everyone else? It's spotty for me. Sometimes it will put my words out of order, sometimes it will include "Hey Siri" right in the item I'm dictating. Sometimes it will hang. Sometimes it will stop listening mid-sentence even though I'm connecting my words fast enough. Sometimes it will say "I don't see that person on your contacts," even though it recognized the name 100% accurately, and goes right back to connecting to my contact list on subsequent commands. Sometimes I'll ask for driving directions and it'll say "I don't know where you are," or "Directions are unavailable," even though I can try again on my iPhone and get directions immediately.

With all the combined bugs, I probably experience one of them every handful of attempts.

Feature requests:
The option to confirm/disconfirm a reminder was heard correctly. It happens when creating calendar events, so why not reminders? As a result, I end up having to create multiple reminders because it gets a word so wrong that I wouldn't remember what it should have been corrected to.
Support for "play more songs like this" in Apple Music (works via Siri on iPhone).

I'm considering a reset or an Apple tech appointment if the bugs I mentioned aren't common with everyone else.

And out of curiosity, does anyone else not get a vibration when they get an Instagram alert? I never get a vibration, but the alert appears visually if the Watch face happens to be on when it happens, and notifications do appear in the notifications area.
If I were you, I'd follow your own recommendations. I use "Hey, Siri" quite often on my Apple Watch and have had nothing but positive experiences. Anecdotal evidence and what-not, but it is an avenue worth exploring.

I find Siri and voice recognition to work, but not as well as my 6S. Maybe 85% accuracy.

So which band is everyone using? I kinda wanna pick up a brown leather strap- it's more my style.

Just ordered a link bracelet from eBay that some MacRumors users suggested. They have the best information for bands as far as I've seen.

Still using my modern buckel. I love it, it's so easy to pop on and off. But the leather itself is a little strange. I have my eye on the saddle brown Classic buckel.

Siri is decent for me. I also got the new 6S and Hey Siri is always on on that iPhone. So when I say "Hey Siri" to the Watch the iPhone also picks it up giving me a double the chance of Siri carrying out my requests.

Something odd happened a couple of nights ago. The Taptic feedback on my Watch fucked up. The vibrations were all off, felt weird, sounded weird, were certainly not the way it should have been. Restarting the Watch fixed it but it certainly was alarming at first.

Might be a strange question, but would the Apple Watch help justify keeping a 6s plus if you felt it was too big? I'm mainly concerned about dropping it because it is tricky to hold comfortably. So my line of reasoning is that the watch would help it stay in my pocket more when I'm out and about as I'd use it to screen notifications and calls. Possibly even put it in my jacket pocket rather than my jeans to reduce unsightly bulges too.

Although I guess the flip side is that the watch could also help mitigate the lower battery life of the 6s..

hmm. possibly.

I’d say the watch could keep the plus in your pocket for those one handed, light interactions. the ones where you might find it unwieldy to use - especially if walking.

but for most (but not all) longer duration two handed interactions, you’d want the phone. but in those cases, i don’t think the size of the plus is an issue and you probably got a good grip on it

Anyone have a work around for ending a workout with sweaty hands? When I finish my run the watch won't respond well to touch inputs from my sweaty fingers and Siri can start workouts but not end them. None of the buttons provide the function to end workouts either. I spend the last 30 seconds or so of my run drying my fingers off on any dry spot of clothing I can find on myself :p

I actually find that to be a burden since getting my 6S+. For example, if I am asking Siri on my watch, I want the results on my wrist. With both devices able to respond, the 6S+ always wins, due to it being faster. I liked how the 6/6+ responded to "Hey, Siri" only when plugged in, but it's not as convenient as whenever. If there was a way to have middle ground between the two...

Have you tried telling Siri to start the workout for X minutes? That seems like a solution, if you know for how long you'll be working out.

I feel watchOS 2.0 needs a 0.01 update simply to address the fluidity. The watch can get bogged down if you attempt to do many things at once and the animations start to stutter. A 0.01 update would address that.

picked up a used apple watch - are there any particularly good apps worth looking into? I mostly expect it to be a notification/triage device, and hopefully has a decent remote control for pocket casts.

Took ages to set it up though - could never get past the appleid sign in. In the end I signed out of everything on the phone to get it past that stage.

If you find out, let me know, too.

My Apple Watch is mainly used for time, notifications, my daily events, and exercise. Though I started using it as an AppleTV remote last night. That was handy. Though that's just another one of the tasks I use my Apple Watch for occasionally.

like a 2.0.1 :)

This update contains new emoji characters, performance improvements, and bug fixes, including:

- Fixes an issue that could cause software updates to stall
- Fixes issues that were impacting battery performance
- Resolves an issue that prevented a managed iPhone from syncing iOS Calendar events to Apple Watch
- Addresses an issue that could prevent location information from properly updating
- Fixes an issue that could cause Digital Touch to send from an email address instead of a phone number
- Addresses an issue that could cause instability when using a Live Photo as a watch face
- Resolves an issue that allows the sensors to stay on indefinitely when using Siri to measure heart rate

:| sold my apple watch right before bug fixes release comes out... but my major problem is the 9.0.x iphone mail app so I'd still have to wait that...

Do I need to go into all the UX problems with the Apple Watch and iOS notifications center? Does anyone here care to listen to me...

I miss notifications the most obviously. I'm going to cycle through pebble/android wear/microsoft band and see how well they work with an iPhone. If the strongly rumored ApplePay in Canada comes out next month I might come back to the apple watch. I'll get a Sport though, not the space black stainless steel with link bracelet. I just didn't enjoy wearing it; too heavy and uncomfortable for everyday use. On my default fit it would gradually slip off my wrist and then up and down my arm all day but if I remove just one link it would be too tight, a pain to put on and leave marks on my wrist. Very frustrating experience

Pick up a game called Lifeline. It's a text adventure game that you can play on either your iPhone or your watch. Works in realtime too so your character will say he'll be away for an hour, and he'll be away for the next hour. Really nice.

I say yes. I got a plus last year with the watch in mind and I have to say I nearly never handle my phone while out and about. It stays in my backpack most of the day. Its pretty crazy. And the phone gets a full on serious 2 day battery life if I'm not watching Netflix or playing a game, which is usually rare on the phone

Also its been like 6 months now and I don't remember what its like to have a normal watch. Its been a frustrating 6 months, but I think its really catching on. I see smartwatches everywhere. I saw a guy with a crazy android watch at the market this evening and I had no idea what it was but it was sick looking.

Thanks. Although that now makes me think I can maybe manage with the 6s :p

I have my iPad at home for watching videos, although I occasionally use iPlayer in the car while playing taxi for my kids..

What are the chances we see a Revision of the watch within the next half year? I really want to get it, but I don't want to get it and have a new one come right after I buy it.

I think the latest rumors have been saying that the next version isn't coming until the later half of next year.

Roughly how long should the 42mm watch last? I took mine off the charger this morning at Around 7am and it is down to 18% now at 11pm. But it has literally been in a cupboard so I haven't been interacting with it at all. And I haven't customised it so I don't know what notifications have been sent to it etc. Does that sound about right?

No, mine's usually at around 50% in the same time frame and that's with wear and use.

My wife usually has 50%+ on her 38mm after a full 7am-10pm day of moderately heavy use.

Hello, I'm selling my six week old 38mm SS SB with black and midnight blue sports bands.
There is also AppleCare + and everything is fully boxed.
There is not one mark on the watch.
A bargain for £380, please pm me for any more details.
I live in the UK.

Surprised there is no way to customise the haptic taps for different notifications, especially as you can do that on the iPhone. Does it copy the vibration pattern for the phone?

Having major issues getting this thing working. Tried resetting and it's stuck on the signing in part, saying it can't connect to the server.

I wrote a long reply earlier but it got lost in a reload :/

Anyway the main point was that iOS+watchOS has many notification repositories that are behave differently and maintain different states. For example a look at Mail notification on watchOS marks the message in the email app as read; that's a unique behavior compared to iOS and even among watchOS apps. That becomes a problem when the Mail app is buggy and the notification doesn't load quickly enough (spinning wheel); it left me in limbo on whether the mail was marked as read and the notification action options doesn't offer a 'mark as read' button as on iOS but instead the opposite 'mark as unread' button which was useless to me at that point... Another annoyance is that notifications on the iOS lockscreen and in the notification center aren't cleared the same. I swipe open a notification from the lockscreen and it's still visible in the notification center (but swiping away on the apple watch removes from the iOS notification center). Oh and swiping right on a notification in the lockscreen opens the app (might have to stretch back for touchID/password typing first) but swiping right in the notification center switches over to the Today view. I make that mistake everyday aarrghh

Wish I could just get all the notifications on my laptop instead. What happened to notification sync promised in iOS7, oh Apple? :|

I have a 38mm and I get this as well.

Like it will be around 60% after work and be around 40-50 by bed.

The other day I updated after work so it was fully charged when I went to bed so thought I'd take it off charge and see how much it loses over night (night stand). It used 4%. I guess when not worn it won't measure heartbeats and stuff so saves a ton.

Something worth noting though, mrklaw, is that wireless radios tend to use more
Power when disconnected as it hunts for its pairing. I can imagine a watch drain go faster if you remove its phone.

It will keep checking for pairing and perhaps more services will be pinging.

Battery took a massive dump today for no apparent reason. Started the day at 100%, worked out at lunch like normal, and by 2pm I randomly got the 10% warning.

Congrats! Swipe up then it should be the 3rd glance, by default.

IDK about apps, I don't use any that didn't come on it really.

Bought a watch from a gaffer and it's coming tomorrow. Anyone have a recommendation for any of the leather bands on Amazon? I simply cannot afford those Apple retail prices.

thanks.

Took it off the charger this morning at 9am, paired with my 6s plus and left the house - not signed into imessage as it wouldn't get past the logging in on setup. It is now 1:45pm and it is at 22% and I have barely used it except to check the time. It has never been more than a couple of feet from my phone in my pocket.

I have a genius appointment on friday to look at the inability to sign into imessage, I'll raise the battery as well. Something isn't right.

The more I use my watch, the more I like it, but at the same time, the more it's just suuuuuuch a Gen 1 product. Every third party app is essentially useless, slow to load and slow to do anything

Hell, the most useful app I've found is Musixmatch, where it shows the lyrics of whatever song you're listening to. Even that thing lags behind the actual lyrics by about a second and a half, which in music time isn't insignificant. Also the glance just straight up doesn't work

WatchOS3/Apple Watch 2 is gonna kill it, I know it. But for now, anything not built-in just feels stillborn

So why doesn't my phone ping for notifications when I'm wearing the watch? That is the dumbest thing ever. I have my watch on silent because I want it to be discreet, and although the haptics are good, I could miss a notification, plus I don't get the custom sounds for different contacts.

Can't believe Apple didn't give an option to have notifications on both devices.

My battery life seems much better now I finally managed to update to os2 and paired it up. Was about 65% when I went to bed yesterday. May cancel my genius appointment now.

Doesn't having your notification ring on the phone and watch at the same time defeat the purpose of having a discreet watch?

depends. For some things like messages where maybe I'm having a conversation with someone, I'd quite like the phone to light up as a prompt. With the watch I can't tell what the notification is until I check it. Perhaps if I could set custom vibrations for third party apps like messenger or inbox that would help.

Edit: incoming phone calls light up every device - just had my phone ringing, watch vibrating and iPad telling me too. But missed a calendar reminder because it only vibrated my wrist and I ignored it.

I get what you saying. I get taptic alerts from a couple of yahoo apps and their taps for some reason are way more prominent than the ones I get from the Apple apps.

In your specific scenario, after having the watch for a while, I would quickly check my watch after my conversation was done to see if I had any missed notifications.

Argh can't reply to mails on the phone but can reply to text messages? Why. My wife tends to use emails for simple messages because our reception at home is poor so texts can take a while to arrive. Lack of actionable notifications generally is surprising.

Ah ok you have to tap to open the notification then scroll down. And only in mail? I use inbox to get push notifications with gmail. Are there any third party mail apps that support push gmail and replying on Apple Watch?
