Are there too many games coming out? Who is supposed to play and, above all, buy all this?

Too many movies/shows to watch, too many books to read also. If only there was a way to jack content into your brain so that you can consume it instantaneously.
Yep, it’s amazing but also sad. My backlog in entertainment from games to shows / movies to books is tremendous.

I throw things in a wishlist and I just know it’s a black hole. It is what it is but I am now becoming extremely picky with what I buy, lol.

Whenever I start youtube and look at my subscriptions, I see about 10 new games almost every day, if not more. Of course, not everything is good or AAA, but I wonder who is supposed to play all that?
No one.

We have finally reached the generation where games are more like books. You go to a genre, look at all of the titles and cover art, pick one, read the description (and look at footage in the game’s case) and then decide if you want to buy it.

Books are ahead of games in terms of preservation though, which is why it has been such an important movement for gaming, whether through ports or remasters, as many older games as possible should be made available to play.

Digital games are also missing a true ‘library’ system. Right now super old games are seldom given out for cheap or sometimes for free, and newer games are only available for free* with certain subscriptions. I guess there are other methods but that tends to go into the legally gray areas.

Tons of games I want to play. Skipped Metaphor for Ys X. Been playing the Diablo 4 expansion in the meantime and it’s great. Still wanna finish the post game SMT V stuff as well. Still playing Tekken 8 nearly every day.

I think next year I will play all the shit I missed this year.
How is Ys? Haven't bought it yet

I keep buying them, just don't have time to play them.
I’m not sure what your method is, but to give helpful buying advice:

1) The only games you should worry about expiring fast are the ones with music, movie, and car licenses.
2) In my experience JRPGs tend to not go on sale as often as other genres so those are worth keeping an eye out for too.

Otherwise you don’t have to worry about most other games and missing their sales. Most of them will usually get sales again and again per year anyway.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
there are two groups of gamers:
1. One that complained too many games.
2. One that complained there is no games.

For your question, i bought alot of games, alot of backlog lol.
Sometimes i have a choice problem, as a person that works 5 days per week, time is not enough.
Now imagine those that work 6 days per week with OT, i wonder how they allocate time for gaming.

That is a major problem these days. The market is super saturated.

That is why there is talk of the industry crashing.

Really, film and tv kind of trump videogames because all you have to do is watch it and your done. It is more consumable.

Games require a commitment and that scares people off.

Yeah, same. Whenever I check out my list and see if something is on sale, I'll watch a few Youtube vids to see if it's worth buying.

would you watch every movie or read every book that comes out?

Only buy what interests you. Don’t impulse purchase. Stick it on your wish list until you have time to play it. You might find there will be some games you change your mind on for whatever reason. Price, reviews, etc. that’ll narrow it down further.

That’s what I do now. Not only does it save you money but also time. You won’t have time to play everything so be selective of what you spend your time on.

To all those saying 'Crash incoming because of high quantity'.

Why would the industry crash? Any semi-talented developer could make an amazing game using unreal engine 5, engines freely available to anybody. And you can publish it on steam for a 100 dollars.

When the participation barrier is so low, the quantity will only increase.

We're living in a media-centered entertainment utopia.

In the last couple months I finished Wukong twice, Order of Ecclesia, Silent Hill 2, and got the Platinum for the MvC collection. I’m currently playing Metaphor on Steam Deck very slowly and about to start Blops 6. Started Demon’s Souls on PS5 again.

I’m skipping Dragon Age unless someone here says it’s the second coming of BioWare. I didn’t buy Zelda. Things seem normal? For whatever reason the new Zelda game didn’t feel like a must have. Next game I plan to get is the DQ3 remake.

Metaphor will probably take me a while. My biggest problem with it are the small events that just pass time. I am saved on a carriage at the moment. There was so much talking. Stuff like that eats away at time. I enjoy an RPG, but RPGs to me are about exploration and combat. Dialogue is good, but too much can make you tired.

Season 1 Book GIF by Paramount+

This is me right now with games and loving every moment of it. Luckily, I can still see and play video games just fine too. Hell, I just discovered a game from 1997 that I never played and it is actually quite good. I bet the same thing will happen 27 years from now with a 2024 game.

I always laugh inwardly when people talk about the delay in some games coming to PC. "Why would you wait a year or two to play a game you are interested in?" when I have just started playing Arkham Knight for the first time.
I just don't have the time to play a fraction of even the good games out there. When I did have the time, I was all in on multiplayer stuff like Bad Company 2.

I used to have over 700 games and several systems from PS2/GC/Xbox era to PS4/Xbone/WiiU and then came a critical time in my life where I had to sell most of them. I'd say over half of my collection I've never played. Currently, I use Steam and have well over 200 games, slowly rebuilding my old collection again....much of my games are that I got from a friend who subs to Humble Bundle. He had all these unused codes for games he didn't care for so he gave them to me and I happily accepted them. I'd say over 60% of my Steam collection have yet to be played and I have this bad habit of playing one, two, or several games at once and never finishing them all, and then some time later, having to restart one bc I'd start a saved file and then forget what I'm supposed to do :messenger_grinning_sweat:. But I'm trying to stop that bad habit and finish one at a time. In fact, whenever I finish a game, I will log it down. Of the 200+ games I have, 9 of them I've fully completed at 100% which I also make a record of so I could look back and feel proud and accomplished.

Really? Once you get rid of the OCD and start to sort out the games you don’t really like, you’ll realize how few games are releases these days. Or at least that’s how it was for me.

You can't die before your death
Most people only buy one game like Call of Duty or their sport game and let everything else rot.
Imagine leaving all the good food in the world just to eat from McDonald's and Burgerking only and again and again.

I'm confused about the topic, i've been told by Youtubers and 4chan degens for years now that gaming is dead?

I disagree here. I love Anime. I have 450+ shows on my plex server and I have it setup to download everything new that is released. There's a lot of junk out there and so many of them follow damn near the exact same plot line with very little changes.

As far as games yea there is to many and I don't know what will happen. I expect eventually most of these companies will just start failing and only the strong will survive. We are pretty much seeing that already.
How can I get in that server 🥺

Its never been more alive.

(but at the same time its absolutely one of the best years in watching colossal failures in some big studio games xD)

I agree. It's getting to the point where it's content overload. I try to fit in a new game here and there but I mostly spend time with my backlog of old games, books and movies. It doesn't help that I like to replay games I already played ten times over. As I get older I just want familiarity and nostalgia.

It’s a lot, but it seems as if all kinds of indie games find success on Steam. Switch is also a healthy market for indies. The AAA market may be in crisis but I don’t think that’s the case for indies. At least no more than previously.

Its not about "playing" the industry only cares about "buying".

Even the so called game of all time Baldurs Gate 3 has a 40% completion rate.

Gamers are like women at a Shein pop up store.

It's always been like this, but you don't need to buy everything you want right away.
Wait for sales. Buy only what you think may be hard to get, or that will support a smaller studio or niche series.

I've been following this simple method of game buying of late:

#1 - Buy a stack of PS5 games, most lengthy RPGs. Buy Steam games on the regular.

#2 - Pretty much only play Diablo IV....
