Assassin's Creed Shadows: Extended Gameplay Walkthrough | Ubisoft Forward 2024

As someone who loves the franchise despite its flaws and who finished all mainline games, I have mixed feelings.

-technically disappointing, currentgen exclusive, yet it looks the same engine as Valhalla with all its clunkiness, with only small improvement in visuals
-terrible music, like others said, it sounds like what the AI should do if it was told “do Japanese hip-hop” and it’s kinda racist too (haha)
-atrocious writing and voice acting, but didn’t expect better as this is by the Odyssey team with an incompetent activist as the main writer
-the new animations for the MCs are nice

After the very good Mirage, this is a huge step back for me so far.

I don't really see the point of Yasuke if Naoe can fight and use stealth. She's the prototypical AC protagonist. Why do we need Yasuke?
"Punchy" bits apparently.

I actually wouldn't mind Naoe so much if her English dub didn't sound so bad. It's just...not very good. This couldn't have been the best actress they had audition.

Why the heck the guys just stand there waiting to be murdered? This looks incredibly robotic, boring and outdated in comparison with Ghost, and I'm not talking about graphics.

They're probably scared of alienating those who jumped on the franchise after the RPG AC games.

In a way it is amazing how Ubisoft seems to be unable to move this series forward in a meaningful way. It's almost commendable to see how basic the combat and gameplay still is and that it is barely different from goddamn Origins and Odyssey, games that came out 7 years ago.

Visually it may look nice but the gameplay is absolute bottom of the barrel-tier garbage.

On a positive note, it looks better than Valhalla at least.

Man I think I'm gonna stop watching live streams. Full res makes lightyears better impression and despite being top member of the local AC hater club I'm in for this.

Combat looks, well, best it ever did in the series? Many of gameplay improvements over something like Mirage which was a mediocre, 6/10 game at best.

Tearing down armor mechanic is cool and I like the way they split gameplay between brute force and stealth characters. Plenty of breakables everywhere as previously announced. The ninja girl should be tons more fun to play but I am not irked by the samurai being black, gay or whatever the fuck there is about it that drives people insane on twitter.

Animation jank to be seen but I hope they will spend is time right polishing and I also hope they took some lessons from Mirage and it's truly dogshit parkour. By the looks of it they did.

I like they're keeping the design grounded without all the woo woo magic which is another thing I hate about where the series has gone. If they don'tgo overboard with looter type itemization this might just be my olive branch with the franchise.

This post on the Star Wars Outlaws thread reflects how I'm feeling here.
I feel nothing, it's like I'm watching a remaster of an early PS4 game. It's as if everyone has just given up trying and are relying on brand names to sell.. I've never been so disillusioned with games in my life.
I dunno, this gameplay doesn't hook me at all, even when I know I'm seeing some new mechanics that might very well be fun to play, and graphics that will probably look great in real-time. I just expect it to feel as stale as AC Origins or Odyssey. Why don't I even find the visuals interesting? I know I must be nitpicking. I see janky animations and feel put off, except of course I'm not gonna care about those when I'm actually playing. Surely I'll be awed if I see actual real-time footage (as in, running natively on my own device, rather than behind a video bitrate).

It seems like a fun idea to have one character play with traditional assassin stealth gameplay, while the other's gameplay is centered in AC's more recent RPG combat. I'd definitely switch often.

I liked it. Some hip hop with Yasuke remind me a bit Samurai Champloo. Ninja girl gameplay is classic old school AC infiltration that's fine. You can choose front assault or stealth switching gameplay and character, that's solid in my opinion. Graphics are good, seasons changes... It's still an Ubi formula game but seem a good one. Hopefully the story is ok.

Just play Ghost of Tushima for immersion/graphics and Rise of Ronin for combat and assassins creed like experience (complete with glider) .
One takes place in 1200s with Mongol invasion, the other 1858, where gunpowder, grappling hooks, and brick houses were a thing.
Two totally different, and well worth it Samurai games.

And if you want that ronin combat with mythology, you have 2 Nioh games to play, but those are more souls like.

Regardless, I don't think this game is needed. It will be bought though by idiots who buy anything that says AC.

Really the last good AC was odyssey. Then they started bending the knee to the mob, and taking out the fun that origin and odyssey had.
Valhalla was really missing what I liked in origins and odyssey with the rpg systems and loot. It was there, just less than and not done right, I think it was less variety.
Of course the best AC era is the Desmond Miles AC1- AC3 era, which is actually 5 games. AC4-5 and syndicate were good, but story wise not as good.

While it's no excuse not improving combat it's never been the strong point of AC games.
I play those games because they build gorgeous worlds which I like to explore & do quests.

It's hilarious how enemies seemingly stand around waiting for you to pick them off one by one. There is zero fluidity to the combat. It's like Ubisoft developers believe they have to make the simplest version of combat possible or else casuals won't buy the game. There are plenty of great action/adventure games with very good combat that aren't souls like. So damn disappointing. Ubisoft devs have the lowest opinion of gamers, and its not even close

I don't even know why people wanted this - especially after Ghost of Tsushima. I like Japan as a setting, but ancient Japan really isn't all that interesting. I don't like it as a setting for AC, and I hate that I have to play as a woman to play the game the right way. Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of the male protagonist. Good lord.

I'm playing ghost of Tsushi now. This game looks like it has god tier stealth compared to the braindead stealth in Tsushi. This also looks like it has better level design and enemy variety. Tsushi has it in graphics, dialogue, and combat though.

Still, I play these for stealth and this looks miles beyond there.

Isn't the whole point of AC to be stealthy and blend in. How is a big giant of a man going to blend in? If he was shorter and disguised I could see it, but no he is a massive dude with a club. He also looks different than everyone else. Stands out where people are staring at him in the streets as he walks. Looks more like an end boss than a game protagonist.

Also normally I like female Kunoichi, but this one, I don't know , not feeling it.

$279.99 for the Collectors Edition...
Things are getting crazy. It's hard to judge if that will jump in value based on including a statue, the first "Samurai: Assassins Creed", and a Game Stop Exclusive

Fucking idiots with a degree, blue hair, and zero life experience.
I remember a sidequest in Valhalla where you rescued a wolfdog with some kids and after completing the quest that dog would be a permanent addition to your settlement.

You escort the dog with the kids (Basically a walk & talk) and a young boy says something like "She seems like a good dog! Maybe she's missing her wife?".

I just yelled in my living room "GETTHEFUCKOUTTAHERE!!"

Like an 8 year old boy living in 873 A.D. would have progressive thinking and modern sensibilities fuck off with that shit 😆

I immediately pictured some blue haired 20 something lower tier writer with some prison tattoos who couldn't help herself.

Anyway it's very minor but I hate that shit.

I still have Odyessy and Vahalla unopened (from deep discount Black Friday). I could get through those while waiting for this to drop in price. Maybe by late December or January/early spring (within 2-3 months of launch)
