Assassin's Creed Shadows: Extended Gameplay Walkthrough | Ubisoft Forward 2024

I still have Odyessy and Vahalla unopened (from deep discount Black Friday). I could get through those while waiting for this to drop in price. Maybe by late December or January/early spring (within 2-3 months of launch)
Ubi games usually go on sale pretty quick so that's a good idea 🙂

I enjoyed both Odyssey & Valhalla but sometimes in small doses.
Otherwise you'll get overwhelmed or lose interest.

Yep. That sure does look like a modern Assassin's Creed with some "what if Samurai Champloo but zero personality?" type beats.

Ah yes because this is what the game will actually look like.

Like Ubisoft are THE company that consistently do this, to this day. Il believe it when the game is physically in people's hands.

lol ahhhh yes, shit from a decade ago, that must be relevant today /s

Just watched it. Game looks very rough. Combat and animations are a step back and it just feels clunky. Valhalla looked more next gen than this. Black protagonist feels out of place considering the time period. The writing was pretty cringe too. "Such beauty shadowed by suffering". Oohhh

I remember a sidequest in Valhalla where you rescued a wolfdog with some kids and after completing the quest that dog would be a permanent addition to your settlement.

You escort the dog with the kids (Basically a walk & talk) and a young boy says something like "She seems like a good dog! Maybe she's missing her wife?".

I just yelled in my living room "GETTHEFUCKOUTTAHERE!!"

Like an 8 year old boy living in 873 A.D. would have progressive thinking and modern sensibilities fuck off with that shit 😆

I immediately pictured some blue haired 20 something lower tier writer with some prison tattoos who couldn't help herself.

Anyway it's very minor but I hate that shit.
It's even more stupid than that. A girl first says, "Maybe she misses her wolf-husband." Then the other one retorts, "Or maybe her wife, we don't know."

Yes, we know, you little shit. Wolves pair with a mate of the opposite sex. Not to mention, why the fuck would a kid in 9th century Britain say, "we don't know" as if homosexual wolves were common lmao? Even humans weren't.

nope. the samurai stuff just kills it for me. if it was only the ninja girl, i'd be good. the series isn't named 'warrior's creed' for a reason...
Well you can play half the game as a ninja. In that regard it's a massive improvement since the last 3 games. Did Cassandra from AC Odyssey look like an assassin ? She's a giant half goddess. AC Valhalla ? Even in Origins you're not exactly an assassin. There's still Mirage though.

Besides the Tsushi rip off combat the thing that stood out to me was how lifeless the towns looked despite all the foot traffic. All the civilians seem wooden and fake somehow? WTF happened, we had the most impressively alive world in Unity at the START of last generation. Looks like they gave up. Where Winds Meet is looking better in this regard.

Naoe's english VA is HORRENDOUS, like the second coming of nu Ada Wong, I'm gonna play it in Japanese if they let me. Surprisingly her in game model is a babe and doesn't have man chin like she did the reveal cinematic.

So the cqc looks mediocre, but the stealth suite and level design looks way better.

Ghost 2 has to step its game up on that front big time.

samurai champloo jin GIF

I liked it. Some hip hop with Yasuke remind me a bit Samurai Champloo. Ninja girl gameplay is classic old school AC infiltration that's fine. You can choose front assault or stealth switching gameplay and character, that's solid in my opinion. Graphics are good, seasons changes... It's still an Ubi formula game but seem a good one. Hopefully the story is ok.
If they actually licensed Champloo music, this game already would have been 2x better.

Thanks for clarifying, it's been a while 🤠

Why is the combat music theme feudal Japanese trap beats? This combat is so ass. Watching this again now that I'm home. These people in a nice little Japanese town all just take turns getting slaughtered by this foreign dude in samurai garb. It's so strange. Very little noticeable effect from the crowd. No commotion. In fact they gather around to watch. Ubisoft use to be a lot better at the slop making. This is far sloppier than Origins, Ody or Valhalla. Even though they were all kinda bland, it was a quality bland. The clipping between the local town guards and the ground when they're getting bounced off it by Yasuke does not look AAAA. The ninja lady has an attack set straight from a Diablo IV rogue. Looks very cheap. Also climbs comically fast.

Is this the "main" Ubi team?

Makes sense Yasuke doesn't use sealth, dude is a foot and half taller than everyone around him. It's actually hilarious.

Yes the npcs looks janky as fuck.

I have no idea why ubisoft doens't share tech between studios, the watch dogs games have decent animations for the ncps but the ac games always have these weird ass animations and they get worse, i swear origins had better animations...

Rdr2 looks like 2 gens better npcs wise.

I am assuming we are missing a lot of context here, but the way Yasuke walks into the village and talks to some random lady for a few seconds and is suddenly convinced he needs to go on a murder spree is kind of dumb, lol. Then you have this Naoe girl dive bombing some dude which is immediately followed by her and Yasuke cracking jokes. Probably overreacting since a lot of the AC protags have been wisecrackers, but this seemed pretty silly. Maybe these are just random side missions with meaningless targets so I shouldn't be overthinking it?

i put up with origins, but basically passed on the other 2. i liked mirage. if playing half an assassin's creed game as a ninja means i gotta play half an assassin's creed game as a warrior? I'll stick with the oldies...

It was baffling seeing red and blue cues to antecipate unblockable/blockable attacks JUST like in GOT (but with none of the animation polish)

They know it will be compared to hell and back with GOT, but they dont seem bothered by copying the same combat mechanic from GOT

Shows how creative bankrupt they are over at Ubisoft

I’d argue we have about 2-3 generations left before there’s no more need for them to do that. Graphical fidelity will simply catch up to artistic vision, making this cease to be a problem.

Isn't the whole point of AC to be stealthy and blend in. How is a big giant of a man going to blend in? If he was shorter and disguised I could see it, but no he is a massive dude with a club. He also looks different than everyone else. Stands out where people are staring at him in the streets as he walks. Looks more like an end boss than a game protagonist.
This talking point has made zero sense ever since the reveal. They explicitly stated Naoe (the woman) is the assassin/stealth character and he is the tank.

I’m starting to think this is some elaborate meme.

Honestly Ghost copied the entire AC combat system pre-Origins.

It'll sell on name and setting alone. The series is like Madden at this point--if you like em, you like em. No need to look into the next title beyond the fact that it exists.

While it looks pretty good I promise you Ghost of Tsushima 2 will make it look like dog shit in comparison. Gameplay wise I doubt it will feel better than GoT 1 or Rise of the Ronin, nevermind Sekiro. I say all this as an OG AC fan whose played almost every entry in the series. That's not to say I'm not interested, just got a sense of "been there, done that" and in a better way, we'll see.

I need to rub my eyes after that "gameplay" reveal. This is a PS4 game, right? And they just switched mid production into PS5 because this is not what I aspect an assassin's Creed visuals to be this... Mediocre.

So the Black Ninja character is a tank that can run through walls? Lmao. The combat looks pretty bad. Good luck charging $70 for this one. Anyone interested in this, should just sign up for a month of Ubisoft + for $18.
