Thanks for the summary. Like journalists aren't doing enough already to build that fucking wall between themselves and gamers.

Bet he didn't even have to pay for the game himself.

Parfitt I doubt would have to pay for it, MCV is a magazine that does PR directed at people working in games retail. It's little more than glorified publisher PR pressure telling retailers 'what to push' this month.

(Upon re-reading, its no different to regular games journalism).

The us-and-them mentality that games journalists have set up is nothing more than a complete joke now. It's a redundant industry, ranked somewhere below used car sales and multi level marketing for trustworthiness.

Independent bloggers are about the only ones you can trust (Retro Gamer aside, who are the only professional publication that can hold its head high)

It honestly does astound me how literally redundant that form is. I wouldn't have guessed I would ever feel that way as of a few years ago, but possibly only because of how infrequently I referred to the medium. Now I'll just check out an interesting interview or article but that's it. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to either Metacritic or one of the sites that appear on there either specifically for news (unless it's to ridicule it) or a game review (same).

But man, if you didn't see it in the OP, this post makes my day. Ugh, so good.

The only thing that devalues that post is that the news was originally from Game Informer. GI > GAF > Polygon > MCV > GAF. It does point out the redundancy of most of the gaming news sites when all they do is post the same shit everyone does, with some being lazier than others. Of course, GAF is just a hobbyist forum, so posting news when it comes up is fair game.

18 months on the same phone is a very long turnaround for most smartphones.

13 months on the gnex so far, but being a google phone, don't need to upgrade that often. Unless they bring something like the N4 (at dat price!) to the table.

got my 3315 in 2002!
then a Z1010 in 2004
then a Sony erricson w200i in 2007!

then a blackberry 9900 in 2011!

and now im here.

or should i wait for the s4 mid year
note: i need a new phone

i think thats still crazy that ypou can play real games on a phone
my school laptop from 07 chugged a bit with vc

Same. Phone died on me over the weekend. Had been coming for a while with random keys taking multiple presses to register or being inputted multiple times. Had the thing since 2008 so it served me well. Question is, do I grab one of those 4g s3s or grab something on the cheap until the s4 is released?

Edit: Also, that DMC thread/headline is groan inducing. God damn video games industry.

No it isn't.

Given the speed at which companies are churning out new models every year, some even quicker (iphone 5), yes it is.

You don't have to upgrade, that's another thing. It also depends on your usage and requirements. I didn't need to upgrade, but at that killer price, it was foolish not too, given than I can sell my gnex for $250 with ease. (though I'm giving it to my sister).

No one with half a brain buys every revision. The speed at which the companies put out revisions is irrelevant. 18 months is a very short replacement time for an average individual to replace their phone. "Very long" is poppycock.

Enthusiasts will replace their phones every 12-18 months (or less!) but most don't. I've been trending 3 years for my last few phones, and suspect 24-30 months is my sweet spot.

I thought 2 years was the average turnaround given that the majority of consumer-affordable contracts are about that long.

Yeah, my iPhone 3G lasted 2 years then I got a 4. The 4 actually lasted me about 28 months before I got my Galaxy S3. Unless something amazing comes out I can see myself holding on to this for a few years.

HTC TYTN2 -> Sep 2008 - Nov 2010
Desire HD -> Nov 2010 - Aug 2011
Xperia Arc -> Aug 2011 - Jan 2012
Galaxy Nexus -> Jan 2012 - Feb 2013
Nexus 4 -> Feb 2013.....

Only reason I got new phones under a year was to give my old ones to my sister Also, went to TIO against Voda and Virgin and got my contracts cancelled. No contract is best contract.

I got my first mobile in 1997 courtesy of a prize draw at an art gallery.
My second around 2002/3.
Another around 2006, then 2009. They were just regular ones.

First smartphone was in early 2012 and that was a dumb piece of shit, worst phone I've ever had, so I replaced it last August.

I figured I'd be happy with my Xperia Play for 2 years, I was eager to get rid of it in 6 months. The lack of internal storage is terrible, and the phone isn't powerful enough to properly run the games that are 'optimised' for its slide out controller. By just using it as a phone the internal storage slowly fills up and I can't figure out for the life of me what sucks it away given I install everything I can to the SD card. The moment I reinstall my phone to factory I have 120mb at best internally, and by installing FB, Google Drive, etc. it's soon down to 80mb...and then despite regularly clearing data and internet cache, I'm currently down to 30mb free despite not installing any new applications after that first day.

The phone seems to get progressively laggier and laggier as the storage goes down until I'm forced into another reset - I have to do this about every month.

Fuck the Xperia Play. It sucks more, as Sony-Ericsson made my favourite phone of all time too.

probably still wouldn't have a smartphone if work didn't give me one...and i hate it because it just means work follows me everywhere:/

iPhone 3g -> July 2008 - October 2012
iPhone 5 -> October 2012 - Now

I did the exact same thing. Glad I was able to wait it out for as long as I did. It wasn't until the 3g started to physically fail on me that I felt the need to replace it.

I went through maybe 5 or 6 Motorola Razrs over the same amount of years, they got so cheap to get off ebay and you could get them in a variety of colours + they were the pinnacle of flip phone design, if you ask me.

Then I got a iphone 4 so I could watch Samurai Jack and porn on the commute to work. Telstra fucked up somehow and I got the handset free but after about a year I left it on a plane in Abu Dabi so now I have a 4S and the Telstra contract is more expensive than my old one and for less data.

I still have a galaxy 2... I think I'll wait till a new phone has a super improved camera and shit. It's sad that my nokia n8 still hasn't been topped camera wise.

god damn

when did u order yours?

i ordedred like jan 27th.. and it wont rock up til mid march
I ordered back in August 2012...

I also sprung for the 8-16 day shipping rather than the 30 days. It seemed worth the extra price at the time, and now that I have it, I have no regrets for paying extra.

It's also nice to see the other new purchases in the thread. You won't be disappointed.

The new Carl Zeiss cameras on the Nokia WP8 devices are pretty damn good.

Ive got an xperia s, and that thing has I think 32gb on it. I'll never use anything close to that since I rarely take photos, won't put songs on it and/or movies. It's basically a convenience tool with a few features that might come in handy and web browsing when bored. I could almost get away with a simple phone except for the web bit.

I do like the phone though, aesthetically its pretty spiffy.

Also, being the weak willed individual that I am, I caved and ordered Pikmin 3 today. Will be getting the console on the same day it comes out.

The really weird thing about the DmC curfuffle is that I don't really feel like i've ever run into any noticable DmC fan-revolt or what have you, just gaming journalism reactions to it

You guys mustn't have really followed dmc then because there has been several stages of fan tantrums from the reveal of Ninja Theory as the dev, the character art, 30 fps, fuck you etc etc

Yeah but I didn't really see anything more belligerent than normal. Certainly was no ME3 ending or boycott MW2 or whatever

Jintor is a game journalist. He is -10 to facts and gaming.

Maybe the povertly nature of DMC4 turned people off the series?

Also, lots of people did have hard ons and wet vaginas for old dante.

Hell, the DMC thread has people making long posts about story. I didnt know they had story!
