Finding new places to live in Brisbane is hard, you guys.

Finding some nice places, each with their ups and downs.

I did have the Craziest Sharehouse Meeting though -- Went there to meet a crazy old economist. After chatting with him for a while he said he had brought me there on false pretenses. He'd let me the room, but only if I helped him design his crazy economics game. "The trailer's done, but the game will be completed in 2020. I tried making an application, but nobody understood it. Now I will make it a game, and people will understand that my economic plan is the right one!"

Maxis lives there?

Also both Google Maps and Apple Maps suck in terms of finding car routes without going through tolls.

Every time I try to find where I need to go it suggests going through the Clem 7 or Airport Link Tunnels, which I don't want to do because it'll cost me. I know my way around this, but I can't just ask "Directions to here with no toll roads" because it doesn't understand it.

The late hours of the night/early hours of the morning, the only time I get completely to myself. I can listen to podcasts uninterrupted, watch tv shows or movies, read a book, or I can contemplate things quietly. This is about as good as it gets on a regular basis.

Not tonight though. Tonight I had the privilege of putting up with someone bursting into my room and screaming at me. I fucking hope this isn't a new thing.

Early hours of the morning are so good. Quiet and relaxing.

Yeah, I didn't even recognise it as a Thumbs thing first. As in, it said it (obviously) but I made sure it wasn't something else referring to "idle thumbs" (as a phrase). I assume that was a logo/saying pre-podcast?
It's from their terrible Cafe Press store that they've mentioned on the podcast a couple times a while back, telling people not to buy from there. I don't think they get a cut from any of it.

Yeah, that's where I linked the picture from :) I'm pretty sure that was the only merchandise they had as of a few years ago. Just surprised me to see someone in public wearing *anything* Thumbs related. Moreso something that wasn't as a result of the Kickstarter.

Game is good. In some ways better than SimCity because of its more limited scope and that it doesn't take itself seriously.

Considered picking up SimCity 4 but I know I'd get a bit bored with it. I find Tropico more fun, overall.

Yeah, I think that is it... the tasks / missions are interesting and varied enough so far, the humour appeals to me, but may get old, we will see how it goes.

I care for my Gran and she always finds new and interesting ways to make my life even more miserable. Don't enjoy yourself or in any way be happy, that'll sure come to an end quickly.

It makes me believe more and more in the phrase "No good deed goes unpunished." A few weeks ago after playing D&D, my ride home stopped at McDonalds on the way home. As we went to leave, I found someones mobile phone on one of the tables so I handed it in to one of girls at the counter. Who knows what she would have done with it, the place was a pigsty so I'm sure it was either binned or pocketed. I'm surprised I wasn't stabbed to death on the way out as a reward for doing the right thing.

stupid mcdonalds monopoly why are you so addictive.

On the same McDonalds trip as above I won the Event Cinemas Pack. Thought it was a 2 for 1 offer, turns out it's a private Gold Class screening for 30 people (just found that out now after you reminded me to look it up). I don't go to the movies, so I gave it to the bloke who gave me a lift. Did I get a "thank you"? Fuck no, instead I continue to get bitter resentment for asking for a lift to D&D once a fortnight while my ear piercings continue to heal.

In Meteora (quite rural Greece, it's where the monastery at the end of For Your Eyes Only is located) a couple of years back while walking between monasteries (in rather dismal drizzle, since the clouds were so low -- if you ever go there and the weather's like that, hire a taxi), I found a wallet on the ground. No money, but a ton of cards still intact (probably pickpocketed and thrown from a car after looking for anything of value).

I picked it up, carried it with me for the best part of the day, and when we were done for the day we walked a km or two out of our way to find the local police station and drop it off. The cop was a massive burly Greek chap whose arms barely fit in his short-sleeved shirt. He demanded to know my name and how I'd come into possession of this wallet, and wanted me to sit down so he could grill me.

I just put the wallet on the desk and walked out.

I saw Dinosaur Jr on the weekend. The loudest band I've ever seen, this time in an even smaller room. A lot more bass than I remember too. Lou being back in the band is awesome, and at least someone talks to the crowd now. I feel like the songs they wrote when Lou was around work a lot better live than the ones from the albums that J basically made on his own (despite Green Mind and Where you Been being awesome).

They played a Cure cover like they always seem too.

The earplugs did their jobs very well, so thanks for the recommendations Danoss and Shaenus. I felt like for the support act (Red Kross), the guitars were a bit muffled with the plugs in. Not so for the main act. I think they provided a bit more definition if anything. I'm sure those guys develop their sound with earplugs in mind. There's no way you could play in front of three full stacks all your life and still write music at 50 otherwise.

Hey guys, so I'm having some money troubles of late, burnt up my savings on all these blasted hospital bills and surgery. But its time to get things back on track. Hoping for some comments on the below proposed budget? I've put things as a percentage and all that jazz.

I know I know "cut the alcohol and other foods and online streaming!" Keeping in mind I suffer from depression and socialising with friends and listening to music are a number of small joys that give me a reason to wake up in the morning.. So cutting them would be.. Work, pay bills, do nothing... But yes, thoughts, questions, feed back would be very appreciated as I try to sort this out. I've never been a budgety person.

Rent: 22.1%
Internet: 1.1%
Gas/elec/water: 1.43%
Psych: 12.1%
Dr trips: 3.6%
Meds: .9%
Cat food: 1.8%
Kitty litter: .7%
Bus: 6.8%
Groceries: 10.7%
Other meals : 3.6%
Online streaming service: .7%
Online music service: .43%
Insurance:.7%
Healthcare: 3.6%
Money to put into Savings: 17.9%
Random required expenses(surgery, fines etc): 10.7%
Alcohol: 3.6%

Total: 98.9% of my pay (per month)

Indoor cat. If it became an out door the cost of flea/worm/other treatments would far outweigh the kitty litter cost:p

Hey, I said it was useless. :) But without knowing income or dollar values I can't really say much else. But doing a budget is always good, regardless of whether it is perfect or not.

idk nothing that seems unnecessary takes up enough of a % the bigs ones are rent, psych, food and insurance, all of which seem pretty important. i dont think i understand the question though, because you have money going into savings and you are paying all your bills, so are you asking how you can have more money to spend?

Eat the cat. No more cat food/kitty litter, plus you save on food for a few days (depending on size/health).

Anyway, if you have near 20% going to your savings you're better off than most.

You're saving nearly 20% of your pay living in inner Melbourne? That seems ok to me? With a few luxuries? I dunno man, if you wanna buy a CD it seems like you can maybe afford to take $15 out of your savings.

EDIT: Oh, well there you go, ignore me.

I went to an anime club thing today. I was again reminded of these unbreakable rules:

1) Everyone is more enthusiastic than you are and knows about more things.
2) There's always a creepy guy in the corner.
3) The girl to guy ratio can be no higher than 1:3 by law.
4) Social interaction is terrifying and reading by yourself on the train is relaxing.

There's probably a word for 'being lonely in a crowd' in some language somewhere. For now, I'm going to listen to jazz-hop and check if the VGCW is on.

Ask people questions about themselves. People love talking about themselves.

Also, get them to describe Fist of the North Star to you like you're dumb and have never heard of anime. I've never seen an episode, but the descriptions are hilarious.

I can't sustain fake interest in people for long and there's almost nothing you can say interesting about a series/show you don't know anything about besides "That sounds [bad/good], I'll have to [check it out/hatewatch it]".

I did get into a very good conversation about the economic situation in Cyprus though for some reason. About ten minutes later, he started reciting entire episodes of YuGiOh Abridged.

This cannot be repeated enough. Make sure the first two things you say to anyone are questions about them. They will then think you are a great person and not a cynical applicator of human foibles.

It's basically the first (or at least, the main) rule/lesson in How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Meet me irl jintor and let's talk about anime.. I'm really enthusiastic about things. Also lol I've met like 3-4 people from the anime club at my uni and they are such stereotypical nerds.. I'm more normal-looking than any of them, also for some reason despite the fact I haven't really been involved in the uni party lifestyle since o'week, I strangely fit more in that crowd than that anime/video game club.:p

Going check out this volunteer club at uni later this week though. Should be fun times! my uni social experience past o'week has been kind of relaxed and mostly reserved to talking casually to my classmates and whoever I run into whom I already know while I'm walking around uni. Need to build up some s-links by exchanging numbers and doing activities with some of the acquaintances I've made already!
