Hahahahahaha TPG!
Suck a fucking joke sometimes.
Worse still is that I'm basically stuck. I originally churned to TPG from Internode in April 2011 as an external HDD died on me and I needed to re-download around 2TB of data, which would have taken quite a long time with the 200GB of quota I had with 'node. I did plan on churning back to 'node after my downloading spree was over, however my TPG connection had actually performed well and, more to the point, Internode had granfathered the plan I was on: $80 for 200GB was now $70 for 60GB or $90 for 150GB, neither of which were particularly enticing, so I decided to remain with TPG.
As the months went on, I eventually suffered a line fault that TPG refused to acknowledge but was eventually fixed when I complained to Telstra that the voice quality was suffering. Not long thereafter, international speeds began to suffer, and following recommendations in the Whirlpool thread, I sent through traceroutes and speed tests to TPG Support only to be told that the ~25% reduction in throughput I was seeing was a result of server distance. Case closed, that's it: "It's not our fault!" Sigh. At this point I thought about churning away, however with work on the NBN in my area imminent, I didn't want to get locked into a contract, and since my exchange has only Telstra Wholesale DSLAMs, you can either go cheap or pay through the nose if you want a large quota, and the latter is something I'd rather avoid.
When news broke that the ACCC was close to declaring a reduction on TW's wholesale access prices, I was ecstatic, as it likely meant that iiNet's "off-net" plans would be reduced to a point where I could churn (200GB+200GB + cheapest phone service + the god-awful Turbo Pack is $120, which, all things considered, is $20 more than I'm paying at the moment) and iiNet is also the ISP I'm eyeing for the NBN, however this hope was dashed when the ACCC, true to form, announced that it had extended the consideration period from February 2013 to bloody
August. Sure, I can churn to iiNet circa August, but then, when the NBN finally goes live in my area, I'll be liable for the $60 early cancellation fee imposed by Telstra Wholesale when an ADSL service is disconnected within the first six months.
In closing: damn it.
