i dont know, im kinda open to anything within reason, and theres just so many of them i decided to crowd source it to you guys.
Speaking of games coming out, man guacamelee looks awesome. I need it.
I played on Vita for a couple of hours last night, it's the shit. Very tight little action platformer with heaps of neat references to other games.
$14.76 for PS+ members! Comes with PS3 AND Vita copies!
Hey rep, are you free to tell me what free games can I currently get for free from PS+? I've been enjoying lots of free games and want more free ones for free!! I love going to the SEN stores and just picking games up without having to hand over money.
Can you believe it? Free games!!
Edit: so you get a free copy for the other system when you get Guacamelee? The free keeps on keeping!
I've purchased a PSP VITA.
I've made a huge mistake.

So I'm looking for a new job (not cause I'm unemployed, just cause I'm sick of my current job), and what I've discovered is this:
State government pays very well.

IT is in a bit of a slowdown at the moment. Maybe government departments haven't gotten wind of that yet.

It is? Still plenty of jobs going around on Seek and Linkedin.
Really? There seem to be more people that have no idea about technology than ever, especially with such widespread adoption of smart phones and tablets.
What sort of past data are you comparing that to? "Slowdown" doesn't mean "zero jobs".
Are you in State Government and thinking twice about getting out, or looking to get in?
Totally anecdotal and relevant to my career only, but I still seem to get as many job offers now and find the same amount of jobs in my regular searches as I did a year or two ago.
I'm in the private sector, working for a multinational IT Services company.
(wanky IT term for level 2/3 support dudes (wait, do other companies use that term or is it just mine?))
Fair enough. Many contractors are reporting that it's more difficult to find work or that they have to drop their rates. Consultants are reporting a lot of companies are delaying decisions on big projects. The bosses at my fairly small company here are fairly candid and are reporting the same, and that they're hearing the same from competitors. Anecdotally we've had one redundancy here and my wife's (much much larger) company is going through a wave of redundancies as things get outsourced to the Philippines. Have a look at Whirlpool too, there are a few threads with plenty of sweet anecdotal evidence.
Save me x3n.
I could start going for my CCNP but at this point it seems useless because if I'm not applying the knowledge I'll forget it anyway.
The outsourcing is definitely an issue, what kind of work are you seeing getting outsourced, still only level 1 type jobs (e.g. tech/phone support) or has that increased in scope to higher level positions?
SME may also refer in Legend's circumstance to Subject Matter Expert, given the way he described the level 2/3 roles.
If I could figure out why the fuck I'm getting a "[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Neither DSN nor SERVER keyword supplied", my day would've turned out a LOT better. Ugh. (Yes, I am supplying a SERVER keyword, and the code worked previously, but I just can't see what's wrong with it today after changing some other parts around the code that's not working.)
How much you want to spend, what do you want it to do?So my laptop battery is kaput. I already have a netbook and a tablet I use dor all my mobile stuff so I think it's time I finally got a destop again. Haven't bought one in so long I don't really know where to start though. I looked at the 2013PC thread over on gaming, been looking at the Aussie sites, is it utterly stupid to just buy one of the premade builds places like PC Case gear have?
It's a pretty common term, yeah: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_and_medium_enterprises

HOLY SHIT just noticed that an update of Chrome now has the hoverover expand text on the right hand side if the link you are hovering over is near the bottom of your page and the hoverover expand text would go over the top of your link/cursor
MIND BLOWN

I think hamchan bought one of those prebuilt PC Case Gear boxes, so if it's stupid, you're in good company. I don't think you pay that much of a premium for them. Building yourself gives you the knowledge and confidence to troubleshoot hardware problems though. Up to you.
I don't care how much I spend, as long as I get decent value and don't buy too much shit I don't need. What I want it to do is play all the games
Pretty much a i5 with a 670 or 680 will tide you over for 4 or so years I would expect, hey Fred?

I have the skills to stick the parts together, I just don't have any idea about buying compatible parts these days, motherboards, processors etc. It's more so I don't buy something that won't work together.
Cool. How much ram and what type is going to run well with that? Do I want/need a ssd for the OS? PSU, how much is enough these days? 600, 700?
Edit: I haven't bought a desktop since... 2000? I really have not kept up to date, I'm like a total n00b
I'd just take their builds and see if you can find the parts cheaper then. Or check out that building PC thread in the gaming section for some good builds.
I did get a pre-built from PCCG, a gtx670, i5-3570k, asrock z77 extreme 4 motherboard. Very happy with it, haven't had any problems with it 8 months in. Can run nearly every game at 60fps Ultra. Haven't tested Crysis 3 yet and I probably won't ever since it looks mad boring.
I think it would only be $50 to put it together.
Just need to couple a CPU with a motherboard. Won't need anything flash.
PSU depends on what GPU you will run, 750 would be the max you need. I use a 600 with an i5 2500k and 460GTX.
I would buy a SSD, getting really cheap now. I'll post up some bargains soon, cheap overseas.
RAM is still stupid cheap. Just grab 8GB kit. Well under $100. Speed really doesn't matter for gaming.
GPU is the decision point.
What monitor do you use or will want to use? The higher the resolution the stronger PC you will need.
Put an optical drive in there, they're cheap. Also, get the K version of the CPU so you can overclock it when some mad PS4 emulator comes out that needs like 5GHz.
