To Be Hero 2
Like Muromi-san, I expect this to have some nicely animated bits and humor that aggravates me half the time.
Oh Muromi-san is definitely a good comparison. I do believe, however, that the comedy got a little better in this second episode. I felt the first dragged out jokes for far too long, but here, even if the jokes were kinda bleh at times, they were relatively contained and easier to get over since they lasted a much shorter amount of time.
I can certainly understand the appeal for certain people. I'm sure someone like Cindi Mayweather would love a show that is so cynical and disparaging of the light novel and anime industry, to judge from that OT thread.
I dunno. After talking with some of the people in that thread for most of the afternoon/night, I don't think they really want anything, save to be right. I got the impression by the end it was really about them being right that anime is basically all cancerous now and there was no argument to be had. I agreed that Fan service is a problem, but they weren't even willing to argue/discuss the severity of it.
And when they began comparing Keijo advertisement on Crunchyroll to advertising Porn in theaters, I knew there wasn't really any discussion to be had, not with a false equivalency mindset like that. But, I tried, gave people a recommended list that I'm sure no one used, and generally tried to provide my POV about the state of seasonal anime.
I actually really dug the CG in Knights of Sidonia. Having most of the cast be clones ended up helping out plus the cold, antiseptic feel that CG has really fit the setting.
I really like Knights of Sidonia's visuals, and by proxy Ajin's, since it's the same studio. I know most people don't like their work, but after Berserk 2016 I have even greater appreciation for the strides they're making.
Why stop at Off Topic? Why stop at GAF? Why stop at the internet? The reality is that every debate in existence on any topic will exhaust all value and fall into a circular pattern if it goes on long enough with the same people. That doesn't make participating in discussions pointless, because you learn from exchanges of ideas, you just need to know when to disengage when there is no more value for yourself. That's how I see it. There is no winning or losing end game, you just invest as much time and effort into it as you care to.
I generally agree. I did get some value from that thread at least. I basically came away understanding that there are jilted anime fans who've written off the medium, have an extreme issue with fan service, ready to equate it to porn, and aren't generally interested in watching new anime, not until the fan service issue is dead and buried. Which, at this rate, will probably be never.
It does make me wonder the sizes of each of these camps. Like, how many potential viewers is the medium losing to fan service, rather than say, outright disinterest for animation in general? A lot of people want to believe that if fan service was dropped the market would magically expand (and maybe it would with the right advertising) but even if those people could be convinced that anime has changed and flock back to the medium would they make up for a drop in the Otaku pandered crowd who the fan service is selling to in the first place? I'm not of a terribly conservative mindset, but I can see how a conservative industry in conservative country would be afraid to take such a massive leap of faith.
